Tagasaste belongs to the Fabaceae family, species Chamaecytisus proliferus L. Fil, and is propagated by seed; however, it has very low germination and emergence rates due to the hardness of the seeds. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of soaking in water and scarification with sulfuric acid on Tagasaste seeds in relation to germination and emergence. The trial was established at the La Neblina farm, located at 09 degrees 46'38.54" N and 69 degrees 35'24.76" W, at 1710 m above sea level. The seeds were exposed to different treatments: T1 Soaking in normal water (48 hours), T2 = 98% H2SO4 for 15 min, T3 = 98% H2SO4 for 10 min, and T4 = Control (no scarification). The seeds were placed in Petri dishes to germinate. The experiment was established using a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 4 replicates. After scarification, the seeds were sown in bags with sterilized substrate. Observations were made daily regarding the time of emergence and the total percentage of emergence. The results obtained using sulfuric acid yielded germination rates of 97.94% and 34.82%, respectively. Soaking in water and the control group only produced 3.35% and 1.94%, respectively. The emergence percentages of the seeds treated with sulfuric acid showed the highest values. The use of sulfuric acid proved beneficial for the germination and emergence processes; however, it is necessary to determine the optimal application times to avoid damage to the embryo.
The municipality of Guamal, Meta, presents limitations in parchment coffee processing, which affects its quality, productivity, and commercial potential. Therefore, the development of this study proposes the design of a processing plant with an agrotouristic approach, aimed at improving productive efficiency and promoting sustainable rural development. An estimated installed capacity was defined according to local production, and the Systematic Layout Planning (SLP) methodology was applied to evaluate the optimal distribution of spaces and equipment. Key machines were selected such as pulpers, fermentation tanks, and solar dryers, integrating areas for waste management, water treatment, and spaces designated for visitors. The proposal complies with sanitary regulations such as Resolution 2674/2013 for Colombia, as well as international food safety standards such as HACCP and ISO 22000, and workplace safety such as 2400 of 1979, additionally considering sanitary design as part of the tourist experience. The results show an improvement in process flow, reduction of cross-contaminationrisks, valorization of by-products such as compost, and promotion of coffee as a cultural attraction with opportunities for agrotourism. It is concluded that the proposed plant not only strengthens the coffee value chain in the region, but also diversifies the local economy through agrotourism, articulating sustainability, food safety, education, and coffee culture.
Wild genotypes of Carica papayahave great potential to diversify products and enhance competitiveness in the agroindustry. This research focuses on the genetic diversity, bioactive compounds, and agricultural practices of these genotypes and how they can contribute to the growth of thefood industry. A review of 14 relevant scientific articles was conducted and organized through a qualitative analysis. The results show that wild populations exhibit greater genetic diversity than commercial cultivars, making them a key resource for breeding programs aimed at increasing yield, fruit quality, and resistance to diverse conditions. In addition, a high concentration of bioactive compounds-such as carotenoids, flavonoids, vitamins, and enzymes-was identified in different parts of the plant, creating opportunities for the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. The study also highlights the use of advanced biotechnological tools, such as genomic selection and genetic editing, to exploit these resources and support more sustainable agricultural practices. The valorization of agro-industrial by-products is considered an important component of circular economy strategies. In conclusion, integrating wild genotypes into productive chains and innovation programs can promote more sustainable development and improve competitiveness in the papaya industry.
Plant species have been used since ancient times as part of traditional medicine due to their different biological properties. The research was carried out with the aim of characterising the phytochemical and functional components of the muyuyo flower (Cordia lutea Lam) by applying different drying temperatures. A completely randomised experimental design was used, evaluating the incidence of three drying temperatures (T1: 40 degrees C; T2: 50 degrees C and 60 degrees C). The drying kinetics were determined as a function of time and temperature applied, to subsequently evaluate the presence of phytochemical components, antioxidants and antimicrobial activity of the extracts. The results with the ethanolic extract at 40 degrees C showed the highest antioxidant capacity with values of 2944.68 mu mol TE/g (ABTS) and 5036.03 mu mol TE/g (DPPH), which was significant according to Tukey's test (p<0.05). In contrast, the aqueous extracts showed the highest total phenol contents (88-94 mg GAE/g). Phytochemical screening showed a higher presence of tannins, flavonoids, catechins, saponins, and free amino acids, which play important biological roles in the body. Antimicrobial activity was most effective in 100% ethanol extracts, with inhibition halos ranging from 9.33 to 11.33 mm. It was concluded that the muyuyo flower has biological potential for use in industries such as pharmaceuticals and food.
The Cordia lutea flower contains a number of bioactive compounds of interest for beverage formulation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant, physicochemical, and toxicological properties of an infusion of dehydrated Cordia lutea flower. A completely randomized design was used, and four different treatments were formulated (0.5 g, 1.0 g, 1.5 g, and 2.0 g of dehydrated Cordia lutea CLD). The heavy metal content of the CLD sample was evaluated, and the physicochemical properties, antioxidant activity, total phenols, and microbiological quality of the infusions were characterized using a Tukey test at the 0.05% significance level. The CLD showed low cadmium (<0.04 mg/kg) and lead (0.07 mg/kg) content. The infusions presented pH levels of 5.82 +/- 0.10 to 5.94 +/- 0.02. absence of viscosity, turbidity: 9.43 +/- 1.12 -38.37 +/- 6.62 NTU; L*: 81.63 +/- 0.73 -96.5 +/- 0.36; a*: -8.43 +/- 0.96 --0.30 +/- 0.81; b*: 28.23 +/- 2.86 -38.57 +/- 4.33; antioxidants DPPH 304.4 +/- 62.5 and ABTS 421.1 +/- 91.0 mu mol Trolox Equivalent/ 100 mL; Total phenols 33.25 +/- 4.92 -89.25 +/- 5.74 Gallic Acid Equivalent/100mL and absence of pathogens (Salmonella, Clostridium, E. coli). T4 is considered the best treatment in terms of functionality; all infusions met the requirements established in the NTE INEN 2392 standard. Given the low toxicological load in the plant material and the presence of antioxidants in the Cordia lutea flower infusion, this beverage can be used at the agro-industrial level as a potential functional food
