While the adoption of digital technology in companies has many benefits, it may also bring several challenges. Potential pressure on new skills is one of them, and it can be especially evident for SMEs. The main aim of the paper is to examine the potential consequences of digital transformation on SMEs’ sales and the availability of skills. The analysis is based on the firms’ microdata from the Flash Eurobarometer 537 (2023) questionnaire survey. The survey was conducted on more than 15000 respondent firms from 27 EU and 8 non-EU countries. The research uses a synergistic approach combining logistic regression and propensity score matching to identify the potential effects of digital technology adoption on future skill shortages and turnover. The results show that digital technology cannot close the skills gap in SMEs. Moreover, it can even further amplify the problem because it requires hiring employees with new skill sets complementary to digital technology. However, adopting digital technology can drive significant sales growth. The study presents new findings that allow us to propose recommendations for addressing skill shortages in SMEs in a rapidly changing business environment.
The purpose of the study is to explore the application of qualitative methods in evaluating business relocation management, particularly focusing on optimizing business models through a qualimetric approach. The methodology involves qualitative research methods such as interviews, surveys and case studies to collect and analyze data on various aspects of business relocation. The article highlights the complexities of business relocation, emphasizing the legal, economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts on business activities. The research identifies key challenges and risks associated with relocation, particularly in the context of Ukrainian businesses relocating during wartime. Research implications suggest the need for further theoretical and analytical exploration of business relocation challenges and the development of comprehensive methodologies to evaluate relocation effectiveness. It offers valuable insights for improving communication with stakeholders, enhancing employee relations, and addressing legal and environmental considerations in relocation decisions. The study contributes to the optimization of business models through a qualimetric approach to relocation management.
This study examines the impact of absorptive capacity and strategic agility on Business Model Innovation (BMI) in Indonesia’s logistics sector, emphasizing the mediating role of strategic agility. A quantitative survey was conducted among 434 managerial employees of a state-owned logistics enterprise in Indonesia, with data analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling – Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The findings reveal that absorptive capacity significantly enhances both strategic agility and BMI, while strategic agility not only directly influences BMI but also partially mediates the relationship between absorptive capacity and BMI. These results highlight the importance of dynamic capabilities in sustaining a competitive advantage through business model innovation. This study contributes to Dynamic Capability Theory (DCT) by empirically demonstrating the mediating role of strategic agility in the absorptive capacity–BMI relationship, addressing a gap in the literature by exploring how logistics firms leverage internal capabilities for continuous innovation. From a practical perspective, logistics firms should invest in digital technologies, enhance knowledge management, and foster strategic agility to remain adaptable in an evolving market. However, as this study focuses on an Indonesian state-owned logistics enterprise, its generalizability is limited, and future research should examine multiple firms across different industries to strengthen external validity.
This research aims to determine the differences between men and women through the overall moderating role of gender between perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and hedonic motivation on online purchase intentions on five e-commerce sites in Indonesia. Primary data was obtained through the distribution of questionnaires via social media sites such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). Then the data obtained, namely 330 respondents, was processed using SMARTPLS 3.9 software. This research found that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use did not significantly influence online purchase intention but did influence hedonic motivation. Furthermore, this study also found that hedonic motivation has an effect on online purchase intention. Perceived usefulness has a significant effect on online purchase intention through hedonic motivation, and perceived ease of use has a significant effect on online purchase intention through hedonic motivation. Gender moderates the effects of perceived ease of use and hedonic motivation but does not moderate perceived usefulness. A model that links the four variables with gender as a moderate in five e-commerce in Indonesia which generates interesting implications for academics and practitioners and can be further developed by further researchers.
Increased competition in the industry is a result of globalization, which brings both challenges and opportunities for all parties involved. The expansion of the business sector and ease of market entry have made competition even fiercer, leading to more competitive prices. Companies are working hard to maintain their operations in the face of this competitive pressure. This study to examine the role of the value chain on intellectual capital (IC) and good corporate governance (GCG). Previous research has shown inconsistencies whereby companies with well-managed resources have not demonstrated improved performance. This study aims to address this issue in order to improve corporate performance and provide a new perspective on the role of intermediaries in the value chain. This quantitative research using the explanatory method. data collection techniques using purposive sampling method from manufacturing companies located in Indonesia. The collected data were analyzed with Partial Least Squares (PLS) to conduct multiple regression tests. The results of hypothesis testing show that IC has a positive impact on the company’s performance through the value chain. GCG has been shown to have no positive impact on the company’s performance, except through the value chain. The implications of the research results for manufacturing companies include improving IC quality by continuing training for human resource skills, improving resource development facilities, strengthening cooperation with suppliers for smooth production, and improving relationships with consumers so that products are more accepted. The principles of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) form the foundation for establishing systems, structures and a corporate culture that can adapt to business changes and support internal control and risk management. For GCG to be implemented in accordance with best practice, a strong commitment is required at all levels of the organisation, from the lowest to the highest levels of management. This study aims to provide a new perspective on the intermediate position in the value chain by expanding the Resource Base View (RBV) theory through data on the influence of IC and strong corporate governance on company success.
