This brief report extended a prior home-based intervention for novel pica treatments and related beach and sun protection safety skills in a child in Australia. Pica involved sun hats, rash guard, sunblock, sand, seawater, seaweed, and pool water. Response interruption and redirection with differential reinforcement generalized from simulated indoor conditions to real-world settings including the beach, swimming pool, restaurant, school classroom, playground, and sandpit. The participant learned to clean up, use items appropriately (e.g., play with beach toys, apply sunblock, put on sun hat), and avoid unsafe materials. Involvement of his sibling and a gamified task-management app supported maintenance.
Parenting roles have grown more complex in today's changing social structure. Parents protect their psychological health while supporting their children's growth. Positive psychology concepts, such as meaning-centered coping and state desperation, play a crucial role in family dynamics. Positive psychotherapy focuses on strengths and enhances well-being. Group-based counseling provides social support and fosters self-awareness. This study examined how positive psychotherapy-based group counseling affected parents' coping and desperation. Sixty parents participated: 30 in the experimental group and 30 in the control group. The findings showed that the experimental group experienced significant changes in coping and desperation scores across all test phases.
