This paper describes ×Aichrysonium montelongae (Crassulaceae), the first natural intergeneric hybrid between Aichryson and Aeonium, fortuitously found in a specimen deposited at the University of La Laguna Herbarium since 1997. The diagnostic process leading to the correct determination of the enigmatic sheet TFC 40.631 and how the parents were inferred is discussed. The morphological, ecological and chorological characteristics identifying the new nothotaxon are analyzed. The genomic affinity between species of the Macaronesian island genera of the subfamily Sedoideae (Aeonium, Aichryson, Greenovia, Monanthes and Sedum) and their interbreeding ability are discussed. Sheet TFC 40.631 represents the type of the new nothogenus and the holotype of the new nothospecies being described.
The typification of three names of Cuatrecasas (Cavendishia mutisiana, Ceratostema dichogamum, and Gaultheria mutisiana) is discussed. Types of these three names were indicated as “holotypes” in 2024. However, in all cases, the original material consists of more than one element, making the type indication ineffective according to the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN, Madrid Code of 2025). We propose here the effective lectotypification of these names, along with data on the gatherings and syntypes used to describe these species. The names are lectotypified using specimens collected by Cuatrecasas in 1932 and preserved at MA. Cavendishia mutisiana is currently accepted as a heterotypic synonym of C. macrocephala; the name Ceratostema dichogamum is a synonym of Plutarchia rigida, and finally, Gaultheria mutisiana is currently known as G. hapalotricha.
The presence of Moeroris tenella in Europe has been updated, rejecting some published localities where it is not found in the wild or due to georeferencing errors. New specific records have been provided for Andalusia and the Valencian Community in Spain.
Here we introduce one more hybrid in the section Dionysia, D. × mallahiae, formed via hybridization between parents with different corolla colors, i.e. D. iranshahrii and D. zagrica. The morphological characters of the hybrids are frequently found to be intermediate to those of the two parental species. On the other hand, only two slight morphological novelties were recorded in the hybrids, with having considerably short trichomes and slightly longer glands in all individuals.
