The Utrecht-Management of Identity Commitments Scale (U-MICS;) is a widely used self-report instrument in identity research. This article discusses the scale's theoretical foundations and development. It then systematically reviews its applications across various identity domains. Subsequently, the article examines the scale's psychometric properties and its adaptation into multiple languages. Finally, it discusses how the U-MICS can be utilized in diverse research designs, with particular emphasis on longitudinal studies. In doing so, it also addresses how identity process scores can be used to classify individuals into identity statuses within person-centered approaches. Supplementary materials include annotated SPSS syntax and Mplus for computing identity scores, evaluating reliability, conducting Confirmatory Factor Analyses, testing measurement invariance, and applying classification techniques such as cluster analysis. Overall, the article provides a comprehensive assessment of the U-MICS and serves as a practical tutorial for identity researchers and practitioners, enabling them to apply it in their research and evaluate the effectiveness of identity-focused interventions.
