    Twisha Ghosh Dastidar, T. K. Ajesh Kumar,Deepika C. Khakha,Koushik Sinha Deb

A BSTRACT Background: In the past, patient safety incidents such as those listed above were linked primarily to individual factors, and consequently, the preliminary goal of the enhancement strategies was to change for individual practitioners. A qualitative study exploring caregivers’ safety perceptions was checked in a psychiatric unit. Aim: The study explored caregivers’ perceptions of patient safety practices in psychiatric units. Settings and Design: The study was conducted in the psychiatry inpatient department of a tertiary care hospital using an exploratory qualitative research design. Methodology: The study used a descriptive approach and was conducted between October 2022 and December 2022, at a tertiary care hospital in India. The perceptions of the caregivers ( n = 16) about safety in the psychiatric unit were assessed using in-depth interviews conducted with 16 caregivers for thematic analysis. Statistical Analysis: Qualitative data analysis was done using thematic analysis. Results: A total of 11 themes and 23 subthemes were identified in the in-depth interview. The themes were extracted with context to before and after admission in tertiary health-care center. The identified themes are “Exasperation due to prolonged hospitalization,” “Barriers of caregiving,” “Belief related to mental illness,” “Physical safety in tertiary health center,” “Emotional safety at psychiatry unit,” “Perceived requisites at psychiatric unit,” and “Feeling like home.”. Conclusion: Caregivers of an individual with severe mental illness have a wide range of concerns regarding patient safety. Future policies need to be developed on the identified concerns of caregivers to ensure the safety of mentally ill patients.

2Effectiveness of Academic Stress Management Program on Reduction of Academic Stress Level in B.Sc. Nursing Students: A Randomized Control Trial
    Neha Bhatt, C. G. Devi

A BSTRACT Introduction: Stress is a natural human response, but it can be detrimental to performance and motivation. Students face academic pressure, future anxiety, and system integration issues. Stressors in university life, including new environments, peer relationships, academic stress, financial management, and poor social support, can negatively impact mental and physical health. Health professionals, particularly nursing students, also experience stress. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of the academic stress management program (ASMP) on the reduction of academic stress levels in B.Sc. nursing students. Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess the level of academic stress in B.Sc. nursing students and to evaluate the effectiveness of ASMP on the reduction of academic stress levels in B.Sc. nursing students to find out the association between the level of academic stress and their selected demographic variables in experimental and control group. Materials and Methods: A randomized control trial was conducted to assess the effectiveness of an ASMP in B.Sc. nursing students. Academic Stress Scale for College Students was used to collect the data. The study involved 156 participants, with 78 in the experimental group and 78 in the control group. The ASMP was administered to the experimental group, and posttest results indicated its effectiveness in combating academic stress. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the results. Results: The study analyzed the ASMP among B.Sc. nursing students in two groups. The experimental group consisted of 46.2% of the participants aged 21–22 years, while the control group had 65.4% of the participants aged 19–20 years. The majority of the participants were females, with most belonging to nuclear families. The study also found that the majority of participants were day scholars, with 73.1% from the experimental group and 59.0% from the control group. The study assessed the effectiveness of the ASMP on reducing academic stress levels in experimental group. The results showed that the ASMP significantly reduced posttest academic stress levels, with a mean difference of 19.47. The ASMP also improved the relationship between personal inadequacy and interaction with peers and teachers. The study also found a significant association between demographic attributes and pretest knowledge scores, with statistically significant associations established with age, year of studying, and mother’s occupation. However, no association was found with other sociodemographic variables. Conclusion: The study emphasizes the significance of academic stress management in nursing education and practice, suggesting students can incorporate stress management programs into clinical settings and learn from them. It recommends further research and comparative studies, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions to improve students’ well-being and academic success.

3Orthorexia Nervosa: A Pathological Pursuit of Healthy Eating
    M. Mahadevaswamy, Sneha Nathawat

A BSTRACT In recent years, there has been an increasing recognition of the complex connection between mental well-being and eating patterns, leading to the emergence of a condition referred to as orthorexia nervosa (ON). ON is described by a marked fixation on eating habits and adherence to self-imposed rigorous and unyielding regulations. These regulations include devoting an inordinate amount of time to the planning, acquiring, cooking, and/or consuming of food leading to diverse consequences on an individual’s physical, mental, and social welfare. Nevertheless, ON does not have official recognition in the latest editions of the DSM-5-TR or ICD-10. This has sparked a debate regarding the categorization of ON as an independent psychiatric disorder. We conduct a comprehensive analysis of published studies and empirical investigations to examine the frequency of ON across various groups and demographic variables. Furthermore, the research investigates a range of risk variables that contribute to the emergence of orthorexia behavior, including psychological, cultural, and social impacts. Moreover, the study explores the existing methods of therapy, such as psychoeducation, cognitive behavior therapy, mindfulness-based acceptance and commitment therapy, and nutritional counseling, to tackle the complex features of ON.

    S. Saravanan, K. Tamizharasi

A BSTRACT Background: Adolescent is the period where the development of intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and all other capacities are at their peak. To deal with the tremendous development, adolescents need certain skills to accommodate with the society. Life skills may fill the gap and support in the all-round development of adolescents. Aims: The present study is designed to find the effectiveness of life skill training on emotional regulation among adolescents. Settings and Design: A Quantitative approach experimental design was adopted. The study was conducted at randomly selected government higher secondary schools. Materials and Methods: Seventy adolescents aged 15–18 years were selected randomly from the higher secondary schools. Emotional regulation was measured by adolescents’ emotional regulation strategies questionnaire. Life skill training intervention was given to only the experimental group by five 60 min sessions on alternative days. Statistical Analysis Used: Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Results: The finding reveals that, in the experimental group, the pretest mean, standard deviation (SD) was 65.14 ± 5.58 and the posttest the mean, SD was 79.37 ± 5.22 ( t = 13.96; P = <0.001) which indicates the life skill training program was effective in improving emotional regulation among adolescents. In the control group, the pretest mean, SD was 66.37 ± 5.58 and the posttest the mean, SD was 66.65 ± 7.45 ( t = 0.971; P = 0.338), which shows that it is not significant in improving emotional regulation in control group. Conclusion: The life skill training was effective in improving emotional regulation and recommended to implement in the school-based curriculum for the adolescents.

5Impact of COVID-19 on the Psychological Well-Being of HealthCare Workers in India: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
Sujatha Shanmugasundaram,Elizabeth Halcomb, Elizabeth Bembridge, Marlen Orsina, Sarah Turner,Ritin Fernandez

This review aimed to synthesize the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare workers (HCWs) psychological well-being in India. During the COVID-19 pandemic, HCWs internationally experienced significant negative psychological impacts. India has been particularly affected due to its limited resources, health workforce challenges, and financial constraints. Learning from the impacts of COVID-19 is important to promote strategies to support the healthcare workforce in future pandemics. A systematic review and meta-analysis were undertaken. Papers were identified from a systematic search of electronic databases from January 2020 to June 2022. Papers were included if they were published in the English language and reported the psychological well-being of HCWs in India during the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the 20 papers included in the review, 19 described cross-sectional studies and one study used mixed methods. The overall prevalence of anxiety among all HCWs was 35.8% (95% confidence interval [CI] 23.2%, 49.4%). Interestingly, the subgroup analysis reported the prevalence of anxiety among other HCWs (27%) rather than doctors (26.8%) or nurses (29.2%). The prevalence of depression among all HCWs was 35.1% (95% CI 23.4%, 47.8%). Subgroup analysis demonstrated that the prevalence of depression was highest among other HCWs (40.3%) compared to nurses (32.8%) and doctors (26.9%). The prevalence of stress among all HCWs was 71.5% (95% CI 48.5%, 89.8%). A subgroup analysis demonstrated that the prevalence of stress was highest among doctors (70.9%), followed by other HCWs (52.3%) and lowest among nurses (38.8%). Based on the meta-analysis of all the articles included, there was a significant positive correlation between the prevalence of anxiety, depression, and stress with age, gender, and marital status. This systematic review demonstrates the significant pandemic impacts on the psychological well-being of HCWs in India. Understanding the differences in psychological impacts between different HCWs and associated demographic factors is important in informing interventions for future pandemic management. Providing evidence-based, comprehensive support for HCWs is crucial to safeguard their psychological well-being and promote workforce capacity during pandemic conditions.
