Induction motors are the most frequently employed as industrial drives since they are reliable and economical. Before putting the motors into service, their operating efficiencies must be carefully chosen to match with a desired mechanical loading range. So, the motor’s efficiency-slip curves are often required for proper selections of induction motor drives. This paper proposes a new method for estimating the efficiency-versus-speed profile of industrial induction motors. This method requires motor manufacturer data. Validation is conducted using a conventional standard equivalent-circuit model of single-cage induction motors. The presented approach helps users to select a proper operating condition of induction motors more efficiently.
This research work proposes transformerless buck-boost converter with common ground. The proposed converter consists of five switches that can be configured to either noninverting or inverting output (polarity selectable). The proposed converter circuit can function as ordinary buck-boost or noninverting (two-switch) buck-boost converter. The converter gain can be adjusted to lower or higher than unity. The logic diagram for configuring the converter, converter analysis, design and computer simulation to confirm the analytical work are presented in the paper. The paper also shows that the proposed converter circuit is suitable for several industrial applications, such as dc motor servo drive and PWM inverter having common ground with the voltage source. How to implement the proposed converter to power supply and common ground inverter is given in the paper.
To realize sensorless control of switched reluctance machine (SRM), a sensorless control method of SRM based on adaptive sliding mode observer is presented. First, the magnetic chain of the motor is collected, the estimated current is obtained by looking up the table, then the error function is constructed to simplify the sliding surface, and the observed values of the speed and the position of the rotator are obtained. Finally, the adaptive rate of the motor speed and the rotor position is set according to the SRM state equation to reduce the error between the predicted value and the actual value of the sliding mode observer. The performance of the proposed adaptive sliding mode observer is verified by simulation. This method can modify its characteristics to suit the changes of object and disturbance dynamic characteristics. Compared with traditional sliding mode observers, the adaptive sliding mode observer can reduce the jitter caused by irregular switching characteristics and improve the accuracy of predicting the position of the rotor.
This paper proposes a current pre-estimation method to solve the delay issues arising from the analog current signal processing circuit (SPC) and the digital execution process, improving the control performance of the sensorless finite control set model predictive current control (FCS-MPCC) strategies used in permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. First, the PMSM model used for sensorless FCS-MPCC is established. Then, the mechanisms of the two kinds of delays are detailed. Third, the proposed compensation is presented. By using the pre-estimated currents, the sensorless FCS-MPCC strategy with the delays compensated is achieved. Finally, simulation is conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed compensation and control strategies.
