We have proposed a 2nd-order Vernier Microring resonator (MRR) filter based on InGaAs/InAlAs multiple coupled quantum well to increase the resonant wavelength tuning range and the free spectral range (FSR) for wide and high-speed wavelength tuning in the wavelength division multiplexing systems. Experimental results reveal that the FSR is extended to 9.2 nm from 2 nm.
Realization of high coupling efficiency and wide positional tolerance between multi channels of Silicon photonics chip and arrayed single-mode fibers is a challenging issue. To overcome this problem, we proposed integration of arrayed polymer spot size expander which is fabricated by the self-written waveguide technology using UV-curable resin.
A curved directional coupler with small wavelength dependence of the coupling efficiency was designed, and the characteristics of a hybrid wavelength tunable laser diode using it were evaluated. An ultra-wide wavelength tunable range of 112.6 nm and a side mode suppression ratio of over 40 dB were demonstrated.
Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) have been widely employed in various applications. However, it is challenging to scale the PICs toward Pb/s capacity. We study the scalability bottlenecks in terms of wideband materials, dense integration approaches, wideband optical sources, and high-efficiency tunable and modulation devices.
Based on our devising THz-wave-generation method by photomixing using single wavelength-tunable laser, we design a pulse frequency modulation system. Experimental results show the feasibility of pulsed THz wave generation with different frequencies. Together with the use of a wavelength selective switch, the system can be developed into pulse frequency-amplitude modulation.
