The trials were conducted during autumn sugarcane sowing season (August-September) for two consecutive years (2014-15, and 2015-16) to screen out the most promising sugarcane lines in a three replicated RCBD (Factorial). Eight sugarcane lines Th-1201, Th-1205, Th-1206, Th-1208, Th-1210, Th-1211, Th-1223, and Th-1238 were tested, and their overall performance concerning cane yield, and sugar content related traits was compared with commercial check Th-10. The results revealed that cane yield was significantly highest (P<0.05) in new variety Th-1201 (213.92 t ha-1), followed by varieties Th-1238 (195.23 t ha-1), Th-10 (195.23 t ha-1), Th-1205 (193.54 t ha-1), Th-1211 (178.26 t ha-1), Th-1208 (143.46 t ha-1), Th-1206 (136.67 t ha-1), Th-1223 (115.44 t ha-1). New promising variety Th-1201 surpassed commercial check-in cane yield, while varieties Th-1238 and Th-1205 were at par with the commercial check (Th-10) for cane yield ha-1. In case of CCS, it was significantly higher in sugarcane variety Th-1210 (14.45 t ha-1) as compared to varieties Th-1201 (14.31 t ha-1), Th-1206 (13.90 t ha-1), Th-10 (13.73 t ha-1), Th-1238 (13.40 t ha-1), and Th-1223 (13.38 t ha-1). In CCS, the varieties Th-1210, Th-1201, and Th-1206 exceeded commercial check (Th-10), while the rest of the varieties were slightly inferior in CCS to commercial check.
Yield and quality performance of seven exotic sugarbeet varieties was investigated under agroclimatic conditions of Thatta, Sindh during 2020-21. Experiment was conducted in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications in separate plots at experimental farm of PARC-National Sugar and Tropical Horticulture Research Institute (NSTHRI), Thatta. The data on different yield, and quality parameters was obtained at the time of harvesting. The highest mean beet yield of 78.67 and 76.0 t ha-1 was obtained from sugarbeet varieties SB-20030 and SB-20025, respectively. The highest mean sugar recovery of 12.73% 12.48, 12.39 and 12.14% was recorded from SB-20012, SB-20025, SB-20030 and SB-20017, respectively. Hence, on account of beet yield and quality performance sugarbeet varieties SB-20025 and SB-20030 were found promising.
The important progress of agricultural throughput is tightly tied to the green evolution all over the world. On another side, the large need of the energetic industry on biofuels and renewable fuels has provided new paradigms for the agricultural production, once producing biofuels has to be developed accordingly to the traditional food industries with regards to eventual impacts on agricultural and social impacts. This case study describes the Pakistani Ethanol industry case. It provides a description of the Ethanol supply chain in Pakistan from sugarcane field to market. It incorporates how the Pakistani ethanol industry can play a critical role in improving the lives of rural dwellers by contributing to increased agricultural production; enhance farm output, and an increase in the income of farmers and agrarian communities. Most importantly, key environmental and socioeconomic impacts for ethanol production, including complementary energy source to the existing and ever-growing reliance on imported fossil fuels, and countless job opportunities, have been analyzed in two other countries: the US and the Brazil. It was concluded that Pakistan should invest more and introduce ethanol based fuel, as it has the potential to be a quick solution to economic, social and energy woes.
During the year 2008, DSM screen having slot size 0.7mm installed at mill house for screening of mixed juice and DSM screen with slot size 0.35mm working for screening of clear juice were replaced by two rotary screens of 0.5mm slot size for mixed juice and 0.2mm slot size for clear juice. after initial operational difficulties both the screens worked satisfactorily, not only clarity of clear juice increased but bagacillo particle in juices decreased which resulted less scale formation in juice heaters, evaporator tubes and back liner of continuous centrifugal. Also, e-circulation/ overflow of juice at the 2 mills was considerably reduced, resulting in improved mill working.
Traditionally, all imbibition juices were screened through perforated sheets and cush cush was conveyed by scraper conveyor cum elevator ahead of mill # 2 in the tandem. With the introduction of DSM screens for the screening of mixed juice, the screening of imbibition juices was also discontinued and these juices were pumped directly along with cush cush through chockless pumps. At Shahtaj, we started screening of imbibition juices which proved to be a great success. In this case study, the advantages / benefits of new adopted system shall be discussed.
