
Abstract Traditional board games are increasingly digitized, yet many digital adaptations reduce embodied interaction and weaken cultural meaning. This study proposes a multimodal framework to revitalize Dakon as an intangible cultural heritage practice by integrating gesture-based computer vision and large language models. The system combines MediaPipe hand landmark detection, a Support Vector Machine classifier for gesture recognition, a deterministic Dakon game engine, and event-driven generative dialogue using Gemini 3 Flash. Experimental results show perfect precision across active gesture classes, with recall values ranging from 0.72 to 0.77, indicating that performance limitations primarily stem from hand detection robustness rather than classification accuracy. User experience evaluation involving twenty participants demonstrates high levels of engagement, perceived authenticity, clarity, and responsiveness. In addition, linguistically informed evaluation of 120 LLM-generated responses by expert evaluators reveals strong performance in cultural relevance, contextual accuracy, and motivational quality. The findings highlight that separating deterministic game logic from generative AI preserves gameplay authenticity while enabling contextual cultural interpretation. This study contributes a heritage-centered design principle in which generative AI functions as an interpretative layer rather than a rule-modifying agent. The proposed approach extends digital cultural preservation beyond static digitization toward interactive, embodied, and participatory experiences.
Abstract The study addresses the transformation of archival practices under digital conditions, with a focus on audiovisual records as complex, multi-format information resources. The aim was to develop an integrated archival framework for the classification, description, digitization, and preservation of audiovisual records within a national context. The methodology combined comparative analysis of international standards, regulatory frameworks, and technological platforms with structural-functional and metadata analysis. The key findings demonstrate that audiovisual records require a multi-criteria classification model based on media type, content, and recording method, enabling systematic organization and long-term accessibility. The study identifies an optimal metadata configuration integrating Dublin Core, PBCore, and EBUCore, ensuring interoperability and precise content description. Specific digitization standards were established, including the use of minimally compressed archival formats, SDI-based signal capture, Time Base Corrector (TBC) stabilization, and the creation of both master and access copies. Authenticity protocols developed in the study include the implementation of checksum verification, electronic signatures, controlled access procedures, and adherence to the Trusted Digital Repository model. The results also reveal inconsistencies between international standards and national regulations, highlighting the need for institutional and legal alignment. The proposed framework provides a practical basis for improving archival systems and ensuring the sustainable preservation of audiovisual heritage.
Abstract With the growing awareness of manuscripts as cultural heritage, digitization has become a prominent preservation effort in Indonesia. However, its outcomes have not been fully optimized, as digitization often stops at document scanning through photography or imaging, without considering how digital data and metadata can be effectively presented for scholarly use. This article aims to: (1) identify existing digital manuscript databases, (2) analyze the implementation of FAIR principles, and (3) examine challenges in managing Indonesia’s digital manuscript data to support interoperability. Using observation of several manuscript databases, 12 selected manuscript repositories are analyzed through FAIR principles and indicators. Focus group discussions with stakeholders in Indonesia’s manuscript digitization initiatives are conducted to examine interoperability readiness from existing repository manuscript. The study finds that most databases or repositories do not yet comply with FAIR principles, revealing a lack of readiness for data and metadata interoperability. This condition stems from variations in data standards and limited human resource capacity. The findings not only reflect the state of digital manuscript data management in Indonesia but also highlight implications for global manuscript digitization, particularly the need for harmonized metadata standards and cross-national interoperability to strengthen the global knowledge ecosystem.
The integration of traditional knowledge with contemporary technologies becomes not merely a theoretical issue but a practical necessity, particularly with regard to preserving the cultural code of ethnic and regional communities. The study focuses on advancing restoration methodologies for wooden artefacts of Kazakh and Turkic cultural heritage by integrating traditional woodworking practices with contemporary conservation technologies. The research corpus comprises museum objects fabricated from wood, including elements of the yurt, musical instruments, and household items that exemplify the material heritage of the aforementioned cultures. The methodology employed encompasses 3D scanning, computed tomography, and visual expertise for artifact condition diagnostics, alongside laboratory modeling of restoration processes utilizing traditional materials (wax, glue, oils) and modern agents (nanocellulose, acrylic resins, biocidal coatings). The findings indicate that a holistic approach, combining traditional and modern restoration media, yields an average improvement in the mechanical properties of wood by 31 %, enhances resistance to biodegradation by 54 %, and improves the preservation of visual characteristics by 42 %. The formulated methodology is applicable to diverse artifact typologies and allows for the simultaneous consideration of technical parameters and cultural significance.
This article explores the digital preservation of Vietnamese cultural heritage in the era of smart technology. It examines both tangible and intangible heritage forms, emphasizing the urgent need for digitisation amid globalisation and technological change. The study reviews key digital preservation methods, such as 3D modelling, metadata tagging, and cloud storage, and applies theoretical frameworks like the Digital Curation Lifecycle. Opportunities through smart technologies (AI, IoT, AR/VR) and blockchain are analyzed alongside real-life case studies in Vietnam. The research also highlights challenges including technological, ethical, and financial limitations. Ultimately, it recommends strategic investment, policy support, and cross-sector collaboration to ensure ethically responsible and sustainable preservation of Vietnam’s rich cultural heritage in the digital age.
