Since the full-scale invasion of February 2022, Ukrainian war literature has become a dominant narrative force, reflecting the socio-political realities of wartime Ukraine and the personal and collective experience of its inhabitants. It offers an intricate network of anthropocentric perspectives that create a wide conceptual sphere, encompassing psychological and physical levels and representing human beings through the interrelated domains of the emotional and the corporal. This article studies the actualization of key textual anthropocentric concepts in contemporary Ukrainian war literature, integrating corpus-based methods with linguistic analysis. The research examines general trends in the literary conceptualization of the hero and heroism in personal narratives of the war written by authors-combatants, while highlighting the evolution of a conceptual axiological content influenced by multifaceted social-communicative factors. The analytical focus on the somatic conceptual frame reveals the shift from metaphorical to literal representations of bodily experience in the authorial narrative, reflecting a linguistic and cognitive response to violence.
This paper offers a study of discursive markers formed from verbs of visual perception such as gljadity and dyvytysja, in order to provide an enunciative analysis of the grammatical categories of the prospective, the proximative and the apprehensive. Prospectivity is viewed as the expression of the speaker’s epistemic projection into the future, which may correspond to a high or low probability. Thus, the markers hljadyš and dyvys′, accompanied by the distal deictic a tam (i), correspond to a high probability and situate event p within an argumentative chain, whilst the discursive marker with a prosodic break before p conveys its exceptional nature. The categories of the proximative and the apprehensive are studied on the basis of the markers toho j dyvys′, tak i dyvys′, the reduplicated deictic os′-os′, as well as constructions with verbs conveying fear, which are currently undergoing grammaticalisation in Ukrainian. The discursive markers of the apprehensive studied here are considered to be the most frequent realisations of the proximative.
