Integrated crop-livestock-forestry (ICLF) systems have experienced significant growth in Brazil, gaining prominence due to their environmental, economic, and social benefits. Eucalyptus spp. has been widely utilized in these arrangements. However, there is a substantial demand for Eucalyptus spp. clones adapted both to ICLF systems and the specific edaphoclimatic conditions of the state of Goi & aacute;s. This study aimed to evaluate and select Eucalyptus spp. clones under a ICLF system in Morrinhos, Goi & aacute;s. The experiment was established in January 2018 at the Instituto Federal de Educa & ccedil;& atilde;o, Ci & ecirc;ncia e Tecnologia Goiano-Morrinhos Campus, testing 40 clones of Eucalyptus spp. The test was designed in single-row trees, spaced 4 m x 10 using a randomized complete block design, with seven replicates and five plants per plot. Tree survival, circumference at breast height, total height, individual volume with bark, stem form, and phytosanitary status were assessed at five years and two months (2023) and six years and three months of age (2024). Results indicated a survival rate of 96.97%; mean individual wood volumes of 0.6721 m3 at five years and two months and 0.9719 m3 at six years and three months. Most clones exhibited favorable stem form and an absence of pests or diseases at economic injury levels. Deviances analysis revealed significant differences among clones for individual wood volumes. Genetic parameters were estimated with high selective accuracy. The clones x ages interaction was significant. However, the simple and the complex parts of the interaction were similar and there was a high genetic correlation between the clones' performances at the two evaluation ages. The selection gain for the top ten clones was 19.56%. The results confirm that the selected clones are well-adapted, confirming the potential for cultivation in the edaphoclimatic conditions of Morrinhos.
Developing an artificial neural network (ANN) model for predicting eucalyptus growth where no plantations have been previously established is extremely important. Thus, this work aims to model the growth of a eucalypt clonal stand using ANN and to evaluate the model's ability to be applied to other sites with different genetic materials and edaphoclimatic conditions. The used data files were obtained from continuous forest inventories of 18 commercial Eucalyptus clones from 17 sites in different states of Brazil, that are part of the TECHS project (Tolerance of Clonal Eucalyptus to Water, Thermal and Biotic Stresses). The multilayer networks were tested using the error backpropagation learning algorithm and activation function of the hyperbolic tangent type. The quality of the selected models was assessed based on graphical analysis of residual dispersion, the correlation between observed and estimated values (yy), mean error (ME) and root mean square error (RMSEX). The most efficient neural network for predicting DBH (diameter at breast height) growth uses the DBH parameter measured at approximately two years of age and their respective means as input variables. The model developed for predicting DBH of individual trees in a specific site provided good accuracy while maintaining a correlation above 0.90 and RMSEX below 10% in most places where it was applied, without needing to adjust the synaptic weights. In conclusion, the Artificial Neural Networks with a hidden layer that use only the parameter diameter at breast height (DBH) at an age close to two years and their respective mean as input variables, is promising, but their accuracy decreases when applied to environments with climatic conditions different from those of the network training site.
Buchenavia tetraphylla is a neotropical tree widely distributed in South and Central America. In addition, despite its ecological importance, timber and landscape potential, studies have shown that it has a low population abundance, while also forming aggregates without seeds and seedlings. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the morphological features of fruits, pyrenes, seeds and post-seminal development, in order to obtain information to support actions for the sustainable management and conservation of this species. On average, 100 samples of ripe fruits per plant were randomly collected in subpopulations of trees naturally growing in Brejo Paraibano, Areia-PB, Brazil. Descriptive statistics were performed to analyze the data using box plots and histograms, as well as Pearson correlation between the measured variables. Results have shown that B. tetraphylla has drupes, whose biometrics exhibited low variability, uniformity in fruit and pyrene size. The species produces a large number of seedless fruits (52%), which lead us to conclude that only 40% of fruits had viable seeds with uneven germination, epigeal cotyledons and high mortality rate at seedling stage under controlled conditions - it only it has 21% of normal seedlings. The biometric variability of fruits and seeds of B. tetraphylla that grows naturally in Brejo Paraibano is low
