Colobothrix deckeri gen. et sp. nov . (Polydesmida, Dalodesmidae) has sphaerotrichomes with very short, blunt setae and long, thin telopodites divided at the tips into short processes. Notonesocambala adoceta gen. et sp. nov . (Spirostreptida, Cambalidae) has a large spine and an expanded, lamellar apex with anteriorly directed tab on the coxite process of the anterior gonopod. The two new species have recently been collected in a small part of the northwestern portion of Kangaroo Island, South Australia. Colobothrix deckeri gen. et sp. nov . was also collected in 1936 on the lower Yorke Peninsula, ca 50 km distant on the South Australian mainland, but has not been found there more recently.
Two new species of free-living marine nematodes found in the South China Sea are described and illustrated. Comesoma gracilis sp. nov . is characterized by very slender body (a = 107.7–111); long, thick cephalic setae up to 28 µm in length; large amphidial fovea with 2.5–3 turns (86%–88% of corresponding body diameter); slender, arcuate spicules 4.5 times cloacal body diameter, with distinct transverse striations and a cephalate capitulum; plate-like gubernaculum without an apophysis; and approximately seven small papilliform precloacal supplements. This species is the only one among all known congeners with a de Man ratio a exceeding 107. Paracomesoma sinica sp. nov . is characterized by its relatively slender body ( a = 123–148); long, thick cephalic setae up to 25 µm in length; spiral amphidial fovea with 2.5 turns; buccal cavity cylindrical with three teeth; slender, arcuate spicules 3.4–3.5 times cloacal body diameter long, with slightly swollen proximal end; plate-like gubernaculum without apophysis; 28–30 papilliform precloacal supplements. The species can be identified from other known species within the genus by a very slender body ( a = 123–148) and relatively shorter spicules (79–84 µm). Comparative tables of main morphometric data of valid Comesoma species and Paracomesoma species are given.
A new histerid genus Aethesoma gen. nov ., with a new species Aethesoma prosternistriatum gen. et sp. nov . (Histeridae, Histerinae, Platysomatini) is described. The new species is most likely a subcortical dendrobiont distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, and Jiangxi provinces of southern China and was collected by flight-interception traps. Aethesoma is morphologically distinct from all other known genera of Platysomatini. A key to Chinese Platysomatini is provided.
An updated account of the treehoppers (Hemiptera: Membracidae) of Singapore is presented here. The addition of 16 new records increases the known fauna to 52 species (inclusive of 8 morphospecies) distributed across 11 tribes and 17 genera. An annotated checklist is presented, incorporating old combinations, synonyms, type localities, known distributions, host plant associations, ant attendants, and taxonomic remarks. A visual identification key covering 40 locally occurring species is also provided. Together, this study provides a foundation for future research on Singapore’s membracids and contributes to a broader understanding of the still incompletely documented Oriental fauna.
A new genus, Vietpetalum gen. nov ., of the family Paracortinidae is here proposed to accommodate three paracortinid species from Vietnam: V. marmoratum sp. nov ., V. simplex sp. nov ., and V. kyrang (Nguyen, Stoev, Nguyen & Vu, 2023), comb. nov . A diagnosis of the genus is presented, and the new species are described. Cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) barcodes are also provided for these three species.
