The study provides a morphological and molecular characterization of Paratelenomus johnsoni Abitha, Rajmohana, and Debnath (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) sp. nov. from India. Extended distributional records for some congeners and an updated key to the known Indian species of Paratelenomus are provided. A phylogenetic analysis based on the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene was conducted using a maximum likelihood approach, and the taxonomic complexities within the P. saccharalis (Dodd, 1914) species complex are highlighted. Molecular characterization confirmed the distinctiveness of the new taxon and established its distribution across both India and Thailand.
During 2013 (Gulf of Aqaba) and 2020/2022 (Oman), extensive sampling efforts were conducted, covering two areas of the northwestern Indian ocean. In these expeditions numerous specimens of squat lobsters belonging to the genus Galathea (Galatheidae) were collected. The study of these specimens integrating molecular and morphological data revealed the presence of five new species. Here, we describe and illustrate these new species. Molecular data from mitochondrial and nuclear markers were also included to support the taxonomic status of the species.
Five new species are described from Bolivia: Aneuthetochorus parapunctatus sp. nov. (Cerambycinae, Tropidini, Compsina); Minibidion santossilvai sp. nov. The larva of the Philippine endemic Pandanobasis cantuga (Needham & Gyger, 1939) is described and illustrated for the first time based on reared specimens from Mindanao and Dinagat islands, representing the first known larva of the genus. Diagnostic characters, notes on its habitat, biology, conservation and comparisons with other Malesian—Pacific Teinobasini are provided.
A new species of the Cylindera (Cylindera) morio species-complex from Serra do Cipó and surrounding areas in Minas Gerais State, southeastern Brazil, is described herein. Cylindera (Cylindera) cipo sp. nov. is diagnosed and illustrated based on external morphology and male genitalia, and is distinguished from its congeners by its comparatively elongate labrum with a distinctly elongate anteromedian lobe, the proepisterna densely setose only on the ventral region, and the gradually attenuate apex of the aedeagus. The species is currently known from the Serra do Cipó and adjacent areas of the southern Espinhaço Range, including protected areas associated with the Cerrado-Atlantic Forest ecotone, with several records from campos rupestres. Additionally, Cylindera (Cylindera) morio (Klug, 1834) is confirmed for Minas Gerais based on a museum specimen from Lavras, extending the documented distribution of the species within southeastern Brazil. Species identification was independently corroborated through a cybertaxonomic workflow using high-resolution images of diagnostic structures, demonstrating the value of remote expert validation in contemporary taxonomy. An updated identification key to the C. (C.) morio species-complex is provided. These findings highlight the continuing importance of biological collections and integrative taxonomic approaches for revealing overlooked diversity, even within recently revised Neotropical tiger beetle groups.
