Maslow's most fascinating concepts is that of the “Jonah Complex.” More global than the “fear of success,” this term refers to a willful evasion of our personal capacity for growth and accomplishment in life. In Maslow's final years he became increasingly interested in the question of why so few people are truly self‐actualizing. This unpublished paper written in November, 1966, directly confronts this issue.
