Augmented Reality is a technology that can be efficiently utilised in education. Especially, in the field of Chemistry, lecturers/teachers can use AR for the effective illustration of certain complex chemical structures to their students. In this paper, we propose a solution to the above requirement allowing users to scan a target image (any 2-D image of a molecular structure) and view its corresponding AR enabled 3D model using their mobile phone. Moreover, we also provide a brief review of the different image similarity algorithms found in the OpenCV library and how they perform on images of molecular structures . We developed an easily transferable software package that can be incorporated into a classroom or research project.
