Abstract Catalysts are generally expected to accelerate equilibration without changing the outcome of reversible reaction networks. Here, we demonstrate that catalytic function can instead emerge through reaction networks via downstream-driven flux propagation. This principle, termed Network Catalysis, highlights collective behavior as the origin of catalytic function in reaction networks.
