The Trump Administration’s Pursuit of Social Dominance: This Time Feels Different … Because It Is

PurposeIn this essay, we review many of the actions taken in 2025 through the lens of Social Dominance Theory, as the goal appears to be more about social dominance than fairness. Design/methodology/approachWe review three of the Trump Administration's initiatives, using their own words and actions to show their true intent. FindingsWe find more emphasis is being placed on promoting social hierarchies than on reducing them. Originality/valueBy clarifying the Administration's true motives, we aim to correct many of the common political narratives and help identify common interests for broad-based coalition building to continue the work toward greater social justice in the U.S. (and beyond).
