Yellow arylamide pigments or red beta-naphthol or arylamide pigments are prepd. by either (a) coupling an opt. substd. diazotised aniline with an acetoacetarylamide, and incorporating a water soluble coupled dye, to give the yellow pigment, or (b) coupling an opt. substd. diazotised aniline with an opt. substd. beta-naphthol or an arylamide of 2-hydroxynaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid, and incorporating a water soluble coupled dye, to give the red pigment.
Used in paints and printing inks, the pigments show a high colouring power and excellent rheological properties. The yellow pigment can be incorporated in hot paint bases e.g. at 70 degrees C, without loss of colouring power.
