    摘要

The biomedical electrode comprises an electrically non-conductive backing (12), and at least one conductive plate (14,16) contacting the electrically non-conductive backing and having a perimeter defining an electrically conductive surface area. A field of conductive adhesive is provided in contact with the conductive plate. The backing is covered with a field of hydrophilic adhesive (32) having a perimeter exceeding the perimeter of the conductive plate.

Preferably, a field of lossy dielectric material (26) is provided between the conductor plate and a surface of the electrode that can contact a body of a patient. Preferably there are at least two conductive plates, each having a body contacting portion within the electrically conductive surface area. Preferably the hydrophilic adhesive is ionically conductive.

ADVANTAGE -Reduces edge effects and temperature rise in tissue contacting electrode during use of electrode either as dispersive electrode or as cardiac stimulating electrode.
