Working-age migrants need to possess adequate social capital in order to secure a stable and satisfactory job so that they can pursue a better quality of life (QOL). The positive relationship between social capital and vocational experiences, including successful employment, has been well established. In this study we focused on testing a multi-step mediation model linking social capital with employment experiences, and further to QOL. Survey data from rural-to-urban migrants randomly selected from Wuhan, China were analyzed. Social capital, including bonding and bridging capital, was measured using the Personal Social Capital Scale; employment experiences were measured using five job-related items; and QOL was measured using the Brief Symptoms Inventory. Structural equation modeling analysis indicated that job security and job satisfaction were positively and significantly associated with QOL, and social capital measures were significantly associated with higher QOL (primarily for males). Furthermore, job security and job satisfaction fully mediated the relationship between social capital and QOL after controlling for covariates. Findings of this study suggest the significance of social capital, job security and satisfaction in improving migrants' QOL, implying the importance of vocational experiences in mediating the effect from social capital to QOL. If the findings can be confirmed with longitudinal data, these factors should be considered in decision making to improve rural-to-urban migrants' QOL in China.
From May through October, 2010, Shanghai hosted the 41st World Expo. Amid China’s contemporary ascendancy, this event provided a valuable glimpse into the country’s sociopolitical circumstances and communicative dynamics. Employing public memory as the theoretical framework to examine this national spectacle, I argue that the Chinese government executed a publicity campaign to construct its national identity as an ancient, emergent superpower by deploying historical resources for political legitimation and ideological recognition. Such memorial invocations betrayed China’s rhetorical (con)quest to reanchor its communist leadership as historically continuous, ideologically inevitable, and culturally indigenous. Moreover, the tension between official assertions and public reactions not only reveals the Chinese government’s political, ideological, and communicative contradictions but illuminates the contested crucible of Chinese national identity, public memory, and sociopolitical discourse.
The growing trend in domestic migration needs empirically based instruments to assess stresses experienced by millions of migrants. We developed the Domestic Migration Stress Questionnaire (DMSQ), the first instrument for measuring domestic migration stress, with reference to published instruments for assessing international migration related stresses. The DMSQ is the first tool designed to measure domestic migration stress. It consists of 16 items and organized into four subconstructs (separation from origin, rejection in the destination, lack of self-confidence and maladaptation). Rigorous psychometric assessment using data collected among rural-to-urban migrants in China (n=77, mean age=24.34, SD=5.85) indicated that DMSQ has a clear four-factor structure, excellent reliability (Cronbach alpha = .93), and adequate validity (significantly related to Perceived Stress Scale score, and predicted an array of stress-related mental health symptoms). The DMSQ provides an instrument much needed for research to assess levels of stress associated with domestic migration. Additional studies are needed to assess its utilities in other places outside of China and to assess longitudinal characteristics of the instrument.
Objective To evaluate the effect of BML-111 on NF-κB pathway during acute lung injury induced by hemorrhagic shock and resuscitation in rats.Methods Thirty-two adult male Sprague-Dawley rats,weighing 200-250 g,were randomly divided into 4 groups (n =8 each) using a random number table:sham operation group (group S),hemorrhagic shock and resuscitation group (group HSR),BML-111 group,and BML-111 + BOC-2 (lipoxin A4 receptor antagonist) group (group BOC-2).The animals were anesthetized with intraperitoneal pentobarbital sodium.Hemorrhagic shock was induced by blood letting and maintained for 30 min.The animals were then resuscitated for 30 min by infusion of the shed blood and lactated Ringer's solution.In group BOC-2,BOC-2 (50 μg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally before blood letting.In BML-111 and BOC-2 groups,BML-111 (1 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally at the beginning of resuscitation.The rats were sacrificed at 2 h after the end of resuscitation and lungs were removed for determination of pathological changes,myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity,intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) expression (by immunohistochemistry),tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) content (by ELISA),and NF-κB p65 and IκB-α expression (by Western blot).Results Compared with group S,the MPO activity,ICAM-1 expression,and TNF-α content were significantly increased,NF-κB p65 expression was up-regulated,and IκB-α expression was down-regulated in group HSR.Compared with group.HSR,the MPO activity,ICAM-1 expression,and TNF-α content were significantly decreased,NF-κB p65 expression was down-regulated,IκB-α expression was up-regulated,and pathological changes of lung were attenuated in group BML-111.Compared with group BML-111,the MPO activity,ICAM-1 expression,and TNF-α content were significantly increased,NF-κB p65 expression was up-regulated,and lκ:B-α expression was down-regulated,and pathological changes of lung were aggravated in group BOC-2.Conclusion BML-1 11 inhibits activation of NF-κB pathway and inflammatory responses,thus mitigating acute lung injury induced by hemorrhagic shock and resuscitation in rats.
With the development of Internet, personalized services have been widely used. Especially, personalized search are getting more and more attention. Aiming at improving the effectiveness of existing methods of personalized search, this paper proposes a method of generating interactive environment which provides semantic background for a search session. Interactive environment involves two aspects of semantic information, refined user's browsing history and his/her new browsed contents. By regarding user's search activity as a continuous process, user's interest changes in a search session can be accurately captured. In addition, interactive environment evolves based on user's interaction with Web by interactive computing to ensure its dynamics. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. It can be seen that this method is greatly promising in the field of personalized search.
Disclosed are a communication control device, a communication control method and the system thereof, which provide efficient multi-base station joint services in a mobile communication system using dynamic clustering. Optimal base station clustering is chosen according to the communication state between a terminal and each base station, and the signaling and resources cost for calculating a base station clustering is reduced. The communication control device connects with multiple base stations through a network, and clusters the multiple base stations dynamically so that the clustered multiple base stations can provide services for the mobile terminal in union. The communication control device comprises: an interface, connecting with multiple base stations, receiving channel state information (1512) related to the mobile terminal from each base station; a memory unit, storing the channel state information (1512) of the mobile terminal received from the interface; a control unit, clustering each base station dynamically according to the channel state information (1512) of the mobile terminal stored in the memory unit.
Electrochemically deposited NiFex (x=50-65) and CoFey (y=60-70) alloys have been widely used in magnetic recording head industry, in shields, yokes, and write poles. Since lamination and multilayer films with very thin layer thickness are finding more potential applications in recording head, microelectronic, and magnetic sensor industries, the understanding and control of composition, magnetics, and other properties of 10100nm thick magnetic films are becoming more important. Different thicknesses (10-500nm) of NiFe and CoFe films were electrodeposited on different seed layers from a paddle cell in bath solutions containing metal salts, NH4Cl, H3BO3, saccharin, and sodium lauryl sulfate, by both constant and pulsed current. The composition of the films was determined by Inductive Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES). The average compositions of different thickness films are shown in Fig. 1 (NiFe) and Fig. 2 (CoFe). Composition gradients were found in both materials. The magnetic, mechanical, structural, and microstructural properties are strongly dependent upon thickness and composition gradients of NiFe and CoFe films. In addition, the seed layer is critical to magnetic properties. The magnetic property variations at very thin film thickness are probably due to the changes of: (i) composition, (ii) crystal structure, (iii) surface roughness, (iv) stress, and (v) thickness. A novel multiblock aromatic-aliphatic copolyester poly(ethylene-co-1,6-hexene terephthalate)-copoly(1,4-dioxan-2one) (PEHT-PPDO) was successfully synthesized via the chain-extension reaction of dihydroxyl teminated poly(ethylene-co-hexane terephthalate) (PEHT-OH) with dihydroxyl teminated poly(1,4-dioxan-2-one) (PPDO-OH) prepolymers, using toluene-2,4-diisocyanate as a chain extender. To produce PEHT-OH prepolymer with an appropriate melting point which can match the reaction temperature of PEHT-OH prepolymer with PPDO-OH prepolymer, 1,6-hexanediol was used to disturb the regularity of poly(ethylene terephthalate) segments. The chemical structures and molecular weights of PEHT-PPDO copolymers were characterized by H-1 NMR, FTIR, and GPC. The DSC data showed that PPDO-OH segments were miscible well with PEHT-OH segments in amorphous state and that the crystallization of copolyester was predominantly contributed by PPDO segments. The TGA results indicated that the thermal stability of PEHT-PPDO was improved comparing with PPDO homopolymer. The novel aromatic-aliphatic copolyesters have good mechanical properties and could find applications in the field of biodegradable polymer materials. (C) 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Real-time collision detection is a challenging problem in large-scale virtual environments. We present a hybrid bounding volume hierarchy (HBVH) based framework aiming to reduce numerous unnecessary overlap tests in collision detection. Temporal coherence is also exploited to accelerate algorithm. Furthermore, we optimize our algorithm through SIMD (single instruction, multiple data) instruction-level parallelism. Our experiment shows that the algorithm works well for the purpose of interactive simulation of massive dynamic scenes, not only for rigid bodies, but also deformable objects.
