Dyscalculia is a learning disorder that affects between 3% and 8% of the world's population and is characterized by difficulty in acquiring basic mathematical concepts, mainly in children. In view of this, several technological tools have been explored that can help improve the education of these children, with augmented reality (AR) being a promising alternative. The objective of this research is to design an AR-based platform to support the special education of children with dyscalculia. An agile methodology, Scrum, was used for the development, which allowed for an interactive approach to the design of the prototypes. Consequently, these were evaluated and validated by six experts in the field. The result was an acceptance rate of 81.2%, demonstrating the viability of the prototype. It is concluded that the prototype using AR is an effective tool to support children with dyscalculia aged 8 to 10, as it allows for an interactive and beneficial learning experience to nurture their knowledge.
In this study, the issue presented was that, although technology has advanced, access to scientific research laboratories is limited to institutions with adequate resources that prevent rapid and widespread public access to these research venues. The article's purpose was to build a fully functional scientific research laboratory in the VRChat metaverse. The purpose of this article was to develop a fully functional scientific research laboratory within the VRChat metaverse. The approach taken utilized Unity and the VRChat SDK to design the virtual and collaborative space, including the interactive 3D models and scientific animation, in addition to testing the virtual lab via a Likert scale survey under five critical dimensions, which were satisfaction, accessibility, interactivity, user experience, and content. The data gathered indicates that the virtual laboratory provides access to education and scientific research, as indicated by an average score of 4.58, showing the extent to which this is the case. This same tool allowed users to interact effectively with the different virtual elements, indicating that these laboratories can be considered valid educational resources in academic and scientific research contexts. In summary, we could argue that this research is evidence that the metaverse, as a medium for virtual laboratories, offers a viable and effective way of achieving some of these experiences that have a long tradition of being difficult or impossible to replicate due to physical limitations.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that there are currently 160 million adolescents with obesity in the world. In Peru, 25% of adolescents are overweight or obese, and between 73% and 84.6% perform little physical activity. In view of this reality, the present study aimed to determine the relationship between attitude towards obesity, physical activity, and Body Mass Index (BMI) in adolescents from a public school in Lima, Peru. With a quantitative, descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional design, a sample of 296 adolescents was intervened on, using the Obesity Attitude Scale for Adolescents, the Youth Activity Profile-Latin America (YAP-SL), and anthropometric measurements for the calculation of BMI. The results revealed that 43.39% had a neutral attitude towards obesity, 46.96% had low physical activity, and 72.64% had a normal BMI. No significant correlations were found between attitude and BMI (Rho = 0.082, p = 0.162) or between physical activity and BMI (Rho = -0.007, p = 0.911). However, the automatic linear regression model identified significant predictors (p = 0.00) with an accuracy of up to 82.3 % for each of the variables. It is concluded that in order to improve the situation of adolescents, it is essential to strengthen programs aimed at healthy eating, physical activity, and emotional self-regulation in schools, also involving teachers and parents.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 15% of mental health problems develop in people with demanding work and academic conditions. Both sleep quality problems and Burnout Syndrome (BS) are recognized as significant problems in university settings. In Lima, Peru, the situation is critical, as BS affects up to 60% of university students. Therefore, quantifying this problem through a nursing intervention is crucial. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between sleep quality and BS in university students at a university in Lima. Using a quantitative, cross-sectional, and correlational approach, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Student Burnout Scale (EUBE) were applied to a sample of 216 nursing and systems engineering students, using Spearman's Rho test and the Multinomial Logistic Regression Model. The findings revealed a moderate negative correlation between sleep quality and SB (Rho=-0.508; p < 0.001) and a relationship between sleep quality problems and mild SB (RRR=7.84565; p = 0.005). Furthermore, 85.19% of participants experienced sleep problems that warranted medical attention and treatment, and 86.57% had mild SB. Sleep quality problems and the development of SB are prevalent in this population; therefore, it is essential to continue studying them and integrating specific intervention strategies.
The World Health Organization notes that one in five women of reproductive age faces episodes of anxiety. In Latin America, more than 50% of women experience postnatal anxiety, and in Peru, in Hu & aacute;nuco, 40% of first-time mothers have moderate anxiety. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between the level of anxiety and knowledge about breastfeeding in first-time mothers with children under six months of age. The study has a correlational quantitative approach, in which STAI questionnaires and the Breastfeeding Knowledge Instrument were applied to a total of 166 mothers, using SPSS and the multinomial logistic regression model. The results indicate that 57.23% of the mothers are young, 53.01% have completed secondary school, 22.89% study, and 63.25% had a normal delivery, with 41.57% experiencing complications. In addition, 56.16% of the children were between 4 and 5 months old. Also, 24.10% of mothers with moderate state anxiety and medium knowledge about breastfeeding and 22.29% with moderate trait anxiety. It was found that complications during childbirth (p=0.026, OR=1.025753) and the mother's occupation (p=0.013, OR=1.149548) are significantly related to anxiety. It is concluded that, although anxiety does not directly affect knowledge about breastfeeding, it is crucial to offer specific psychological and educational support for new mothers, particularly addressing sociodemographic factors.
Introduction: In recent years, the detection and control of dengue have become more relevant due to the increase in its incidence in tropical and subtropical regions. This study aimed to systematically analyze the use of advanced technologies, such as geospatial mapping, building analysis, and image processing, in the detection and control of dengue between 2015 and 2025. Methods: Following the PRISM methodology, 148 documents are selected through relevant searches in scientific databases such as Scopus and IEEE Xplore, applying thematic and quality filters. Results: The results highlight that the United States and Brazil lead research in this field while Latin America, with countries such as Colombia and Mexico, shows a lower representation. In terms of thematic areas, 75% of the studies reviewed correspond to scientific articles, highlighting the academic importance of the topic, while 19.5% come from Environmental Sciences, evidencing the role of sustainability in the fight against dengue. Discussion: Significant role in evaluating climate data, vegetation indices, and machine learning-based techniques to anticipate the risk of contracting dengue.
The World Health Organization indicates that unhealthy diets cause approximately 11 million deaths annually worldwide. In Peru, 57.9% of the population consumes highly processed foods daily. The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between knowledge about healthy eating and eating behavior among gym users in a district of Lima, Peru. Using an exploratory and quantitative design, information was collected from 156 users through a hybrid questionnaire, analyzed with SPSS and multinomial logistic regression techniques. The results reveal that 57.42% of the participants have an intermediate knowledge of healthy eating, while only 17.42% reach a high level. Likewise, 49.03% exhibit an intermediate eating behavior. In addition, sociodemographic factors, such as the duration of gym attendance and maintenance of a specific diet, were found to influence eating behavior. It is concluded that there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and eating behavior, underlining the importance of nutrition education to improve eating habits in this population.
Lead, a vital but dangerous industrial metal, poses serious health risks. Exposure, especially in mining and industrial areas, has led to alarming statistics; in Mexico, 21.8% of children have elevated blood lead levels, while in Cuba, 58% of exposed workers exhibit signs of poisoning. In Huacho, Peru, 71.4% of the population has high levels of lead, attributable to the mining industry. Globally, lead is estimated to contribute to 0.6% of the disease burden and cause approximately 143,000 deaths annually, with more than 600,000 children under the age of five dying from it. Traditional methods are expensive and time-consuming. That is why a low-cost portable device is proposed, developed with technology such as Matlab and Arduino, which uses anodic voltammetry to measure blood lead concentrations. Although requiring improvements, this device has the potential to significantly improve the monitoring and prevention of lead-related diseases, providing accurate and rapid results to protect public health where the reading of the presence of lead in the blood was achieved.
As many as one in three people worldwide have anemia, with young children at increased risk of both disease and complications. In settings without clinical laboratories, portable hemoglobinometers serve important roles in diagnosing anemia and estimating prevalence. Here, we assess the validity of two such point-of-care devices-the HemoCue Hb201 and the HemoCue Hb301-relative to the international reference standard, the cyanmethemoglobin method. In total, 428 children ages 6-60 months were recruited at health posts in Lima, Peru, and venous and capillary blood samples were collected from each participant. Venous blood was assessed with the cyanmethemoglobin method, whereas capillary blood was assessed using the Hb201 and the Hb301; 16.1% of participants were found to have anemia using the cyanmethemoglobin method. Both the Hb201 (43.7%) and the Hb301 (20.6%) overestimated this prevalence, with the former reaching statistical significance (P <0.0001 and P = 0.11, respectively). Both devices also tended to underestimate hemoglobin concentration, with the Hb201 (mean difference =-0.99 g/dL; percentage error =-8.1%) being appreciably less accurate than the Hb301 (mean difference =-0.35 g/dL; percentage error =-2.7%). Areas under the curve for the Hb201 (0.92) and the Hb301 (0.93) were statistically similar (P = 0.28); however, the Hb201 incorrectly classified 29.4% of participants compared with 11.0% for the Hb301. Both devices had more false positives than false negatives. In conclusion, the Hb301 was found to be significantly more accurate than the Hb201 at measuring hemoglobin, diagnosing anemia, and estimating anemia prevalence.
Given the high concern for human health, the aim is to determine the relationship between healthy lifestyles and nutritional status among firefighters of the VCD Callao Ventanilla 2023. This study was conducted in four volunteer fire companies, namely B-75, B-184, B-207, B-232, located in the districts of Ventanilla and Mi Per & uacute;. The population consists of 291 personnel, with a sample of 168 participants. It was observed that 58.9% (99) of the participants are under 36 years old, 29.8% (50) are between 36 and 45 years old, and 11.3% (19) are 46 years or older. In terms of gender, 62.5% (105) are males. Regarding the duration of their firefighting service, 70.2% (118) have a maximum of 10 years of seniority. On the other hand, 57.7% (97) of the participants have an unhealthy lifestyle, 40.5% (68) have a healthy lifestyle, and 1.8% (3) have a very healthy lifestyle. Regarding the nutritional status of the firefighters in this study, it was found that 53.3% (89) are overweight, 26.8% are considered normal weight, 19.6% (33) are obese, and 0.6% (1) are underweight. Concerning lifestyles, the study revealed that 57.7% of the participants have an unhealthy lifestyle, 40.5% have a healthy lifestyle, and 1.8% (3) have a very healthy lifestyle. It is worth mentioning that according to Rodr & iacute;guez C's study, 95.2% of volunteers belonging to the B107 Fire Company lead a healthy lifestyle, while 4.8% do not. Statistically, we can assert that there is no significant relationship between the variable of healthy lifestyles and nutritional status. However, it is observed that there is a direct relationship between nutritional status and age. Likewise, it can be affirmed that more than at least 72.9% of the studied population is overweight, either with overweight or obesity.
