Stunting remains a complex public health issue in Indonesia, including in Bengkulu Province, where its prevalence increased to 20.2% in 2023. Kampung Melayu District is among the high-risk areas. This community service initiative aimed to strengthen the capacity of health cadres and early childhood education center (ECEC) teachers in implementing local food-based balanced nutrition guidelines and the Healthy-Smart Children Program for community-level stunting prevention. The main methodology used was community empowerment integrated with structured training and mentoring. The activity was implemented through six phases: preparation and stakeholder coordination, partner organization, intensive training, field-based mentoring, cross-sector coordination, and monitoring and evaluation. The results showed clear improvements in partner capacity after the intervention. Knowledge of local food-based balanced nutrition increased by 13.18%, understanding of child nutritional status assessment increased by 50.08%, and knowledge of child development achievement standards increased by 28.22%. ECEC teachers were also able to develop a one-week balanced menu cycle and conduct basic nutrition and development assessments. The program generated active participation from teachers, parents, children, health cadres, and local stakeholders. These findings indicate that local food-based nutrition education, when combined with empowerment and formal multi-sector collaboration, can become a scalable community model and should be considered in regional stunting prevention policies. The results of the activities have implications for the achievement of the SDGs by strengthening community capacity in local food-based balanced nutrition, child nutritional status and development monitoring, early childhood education, and multisectoral collaboration to support sustainable stunting prevention.

Regular community education is also needed to increase awareness of the importance of early detection.
Background: Animal protein is a nutrient that is important for the growth and development of children Under Two Years old, when viewed from the quality, animal protein has better quality than with vegetable protein, this is because the content of animal protein plays a role in the growth of body cells needed during the growth period. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between animal protein consumption and various nutritional status indicators (stunting, underweight, and wasting) among children aged 6–23 months in Indonesia, utilizing a large-scale national dataset. Study Design: An observational analytical study with a cross-sectional approach, conducted in accordance with STROBE guidelines (menambahkan standar pelaporan internasional). Place and Duration of Study: This study used secondary data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey conducted across 38 provinces in Indonesia. Data analysis was carried out from February to May 2025. Methodology: Nationally representative secondary data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) were analyzed, covering 38 provinces. The final sample included 108,673 children who met strict inclusion criteria. Predictor variables focused on animal protein intake, while outcomes were assessed using WHO-standardized HAZ, WAZ, and WHZ indices. Data were analyzed using Chi-square and adjusted multivariate binary logistic regression to control for demographic and socioeconomic confounders. Results: While 78.8% of children consumed animal protein, critical nutritional gaps persisted: stunting (19.6%), wasting (14.4%), and underweight (11.1%). Multivariate analysis revealed that animal protein consumption was not significantly associated with stunting (p=0.524; OR=0.974) or underweight (p=0.161; OR=1.083). In contrast, a statistically significant association was found with wasting (p=0.016; OR=1.122; 95% CI: 1.021–1.231), demonstrating that children without animal protein intake have a higher vulnerability to acute malnutrition. Additionally, male children exhibited a significantly higher risk of stunting and underweight (p<0.05). Conclusion: Animal protein is a key determinant in preventing acute malnutrition (wasting) but does not appear to be the primary driver for chronic conditions like stunting in this population. Policy interventions should prioritize improving the accessibility and affordability of animal-source foods to combat wasting, while stunting strategies must remain multisectoral, addressing broader socioeconomic and environmental factors.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy disorder characterized by hypertension, edema, and proteinuria. Preeclampsia remains one of the main causes of maternal death in Indonesia. Preeclampsia can cause stunting of fetal growth because of unbalanced nutrition. Preeclampsia can result in insufficient blood flow to the placenta, reducing the intake of nutrients and oxygen by the fetus, which affects its weight. The long-term impact is that infants may have low birth weights (LBW). This study aimed to determine the estimated combined effect of preeclampsia in pregnant women and the incidence of LBW. This study used a meta-analysis method to analyze articles from Google Scholar using the following criteria: published between 2012 and 2024, full-text availability, case-control or cross-sectional studies, multivariate analysis, and reported odds ratios (OR). Articles were collected using the PRISMA diagram and analyzed using Review Manager 5.4 application with a random-effects analysis model. This study analyzed 36 cross-sectional results (OR 95% CI: 2.16; 1.51–3.08) and 22 case-control results (OR 95% CI: 3.15; 1.76–5.64), showing a significant association between preeclampsia in pregnant women and the incidence of low birth weight in infants (p-value < 0.00001, which is < 0.05). Pregnant women with high levels of preeclampsia were at a higher risk of giving birth to infants with low birth weight (odds ratio [OR 95% CI: 4.66; 1.76–12.31, p-value < 0.00001).
Background: Children under two years old go through a rapid physical growth period, requiring the highest nutritional intake compared to other age groups. However, infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices are often suboptimal, leading to nutritional and health problems. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the determinants of IYCF practices in Bengkulu Province. Methods: The study used a cross-sectional design from the 2017 IDHS data. The sample was women of childbearing age 15-49 years who had children aged 6-24 months, as many as 73 children with a stratified two-stage sampling technique. Data analysis using proportion difference test with chi-square test and multivariate binary logistic regression. Results: This study found that in 83.9% of urban areas and 91.5% of rural areas, the practice of IYCF is not by the recommendations. There is no difference in IYCF practice between urban and rural areas. Factors related to the practice of IYCF are pregnancy planning and antenatal care (ANC) quantity. Unplanned pregnancies had a risk of 4.8 times (p-value=0.04) the practice of IYCF was not as recommended compared to the intended pregnancies. The quantity of antenatal care that was not at risk was 4.8 times the practice of IYCF was not as recommended compared to the quantity of good ANC (p-value=0.05). Conclusions: Pregnancy planning needs to be educational material for young women, and an increase in efforts to increase knowledge of pregnant women about IYCF during antenatal care through nutrition counseling programs or classes for pregnant women in health facilities.
The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding for infants in Indonesia still needs to be higher compared to the national target (80%). Low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding is a risk factor for various nutritional problems in toddlers. The causes of failure of exclusive breastfeeding are multifactorial, including risky pregnancy. This study aims to determine the association of risky pregnancies with the failure of exclusive breastfeeding using national data from the 2017 Indonesian Health Demographic Survey (IDHS) with a cross-sectional design. The study sample that met the criteria was 6,689 mothers with children aged 6-23 months. The independent variable is risky pregnancy (parity, pregnancy spacing, age during pregnancy), and the dependent variable is the failure of exclusive breastfeeding. Data analysis using multivariate logistic regression. The results found that only 26.2% of exclusive breastfeeding practices. Risky pregnancy is associated with the failure of exclusive breastfeeding. Mothers with too much parity risked 1,195 times, mothers with primiparous parity risked 1,716 times, too close birth spacing risked 1,210 times, and too young mothers were 1,267 times more likely not to exclusively breastfeed than mothers who had normal pregnancies after controlling for the area of residence. It is necessary to improve health promotion programs to the public regarding the importance of offering exclusive breastfeeding to infants and improving fertility characteristics.
Background: The prevalence of stunting in Kepahyang Regency in Bengkulu Province is high (24.9%). Background. The global strategy on infant and child feeding recommends the best pattern of feeding for infants and young child feeding (IYCF) from birth to 24 months. Practices of proper feeding of children up to 2 years of age contribute to a child’s survival, growth, and development because they can prevent micronutrient deficiencies, morbidity, and obesity in later life. This study aims to determine the risk factors for the failure of IYCF practice in urban and rural Indonesia. Materials and Methods. The study used Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) 2017 data with a cross-sectional research design. The sampling technique used systematic probability proportional to size sampling. The number of samples was 4,869 children consisting of 2,424 children in urban and 2,445 children in rural. Bivariate analysis using chi-square test. Multivariate analysis using multivariate logistic regression. Results. The study found that most of the children in urban (79.3%) and rural (97.2%) did not practice IYCF under the recommendations. There is a difference in the proportion of IYCF practices between urban and rural areas (p <0.001). The risk factors for the failure of IYCF practice in urban areas are socioeconomic, maternal age, and age at first marriage. The poorest socioeconomic is at risk of 2.4 times, maternal age > 35 years are at risk of 1.5 times, age at first marriage is less than 21 years at risk of 2.1 times carrying out IYCF practices not according to recommendations compared to the comparison group. The risk factors for the failure of IYCF practice in rural are socioeconomic, maternal education, quantity, and quality of antenatal care (ANC). The poorest socioeconomic is at risk of 2.1 times, mothers with primary education are at 1.5 times, the quantity of ANC is not good at risk at 1.9 times, the quality of ANC is not good risk at 1.5 times practicing IYCF is not according to the recommendations compared to the comparison group. Conclusion. The practice of IYCF in Indonesia starting from giving early breastfeeding initiation, exclusive breastfeeding, and complementary feeding according to recommendations is still low. The priority of IYCF intervention through education and assistance to pregnant women needs to be a sustainable program.

Background: The 2022 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey results show that the stunting rate reaches 21.6%, wasting 7.7%, and underweight 17.7%. Malnutrition problems in toddlers, especially those suffering from Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI), are often exacerbated by the provision of Complementary Feeding that does not meet nutritional standards. Therefore, greater attention to complementary feeding quality is essential to improving children's nutritional status and reducing the risk of ARI complications. Objective: To identify the relationship between the quality of complementary breastfeeding and nutritional conditions, such as underweight, wasting, and stunting, in children under two years of age suffering from ARI, as an urgent effort to address malnutrition problems and improve children's health in vulnerable communities. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with a target of toddlers aged 6-24 months who suffered from ARI, with a sample of 96 children. Data on complementary breastfeeding was collected through interviews using questionnaires, as well as weight measurements with digital scales and height with a lenghtboard. Statistical analysis using the Chi-square test. Results: Nutritional problems in two-year-old children with ISPA were found to be 44.8% underweight, 60.4% wasting, and 36.5% stunting. Complementary Feeding quality that did not meet the recommendations was significantly associated with the incidence of being underweight (p-value 0.035; OR 2.488), and wasting (p-value <0.0001; OR 6.657), but was not significantly associated with the incidence of stunting (p-value 0.95; OR 0.973).Conclusion: The quality of Complementary Feeding that does not meet nutritional standards in children with ARI is significantly related to the incidence of underweight and wasting.
Hypertension is a non-communicable disease where blood pressure is above the normal limit, namely systolic ≥140 mmHg and diastolic ≥90 mmHg. Hypertension is often known as the "silent killer" because it has no symptoms. This research aims to determine the effect of nutritional literacy through flipchart media on knowledge and adherence to a low-salt diet in hypertension sufferers. This research is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design approach. The intervention group was given nutritional literacy through flipchart media and the control group was only given leaflets. The results show a difference in the average post-test knowledge score between the intervention and control groups (p-value 0.000) and a difference in the average score for increasing sodium intake between the intervention group and the control group (p-value 0.017). After nutrition education with flipchart media, there was a difference in knowledge and salt intake between the intervention and control groups. The intervention group achieved higher knowledge and lower salt intake than the control group (p-value 0.05).
