During the COVID-19 pandemic, pre-internship training of Health Sciences students took on an essential role. The shift to virtual practices and a project-based learning approach brought challenges, but also opened doors for adaptation and learning in a constantly evolving healthcare landscape. To determine the factors associated with the perception of Peruvian health sciences students during the period of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic regarding their training prior to hospital internship. A Cross-sectional analytical study was performed. Students from professional schools of health sciences who entered the hospital internship 2022 and students from the year prior to the internship from a Peruvian public university were evaluated. Data collection was performed with a 49-question questionnaire. Female participants were more prevalent with 384 (70.98%) students while the medical career had the highest participation with 152 respondents (28.1%) followed by the dental career with 134 (24.77%). In the adjusted logistic regression model no influence of associated factors on students' perception of their preparedness for hospital internship in the isolation period due to the COVID-19 pandemic was found. Peruvian Health Sciences students self-perceive themselves prepared for hospital internship in Comprehensive Care, Prevention, Collaboration and Self-Learning, but less so in Practical Skills, Understanding Science, Interpersonal Skills and Confidence.
The use of activated charcoal and probiotics is a controversial topic nowadays due to their potential oral health benefits. Thus, the aim of this research was to perform a scientometric analysis of activated charcoal or probiotics in mouthwashes or dentifrices by means of dynamicity, spatiotemporal evolution, and trends. A study was carried out to look back at scientific publications between 2005 and 2022 using the Web of Science. To analyze the data, various bibliometric indicators were used. The process of retrieving information was completed on July 28, 2023. It was found that only 1 article was published in 1990. Furthermore, the highest co-citation occurred in cluster 9 (Dentistry, Dermatology, Surgery), indicating a higher relevance and frequency with cluster 8 (Molecular Biology, Genetics). In the cluster view, 15 large clusters were identified, with cluster 0 (Activated Carbon) being the largest and occupying the greatest centrality. On the other hand, the cross-country collaboration map showed active collaborations between Australia and New Zealand, Brazil, and Canada. We found a significant growth of scientific publications on probiotics and activated charcoal in the field of dentistry and related disciplines between 1990 and 2023.
To evaluate the intratubular penetration depth of ultrasound-activated bioceramic sealant cements into root dentin, specifically at the dentin-cement interface. This in vitro experimental study was conducted with samples that were randomly divided based on the type of sealer used and whether ultrasound activation was applied prior to obturation. This resulted in four experimental groups (n=40). Groups A1 and B1 utilized the Eighteeth Ultra X ultrasonic activator with a blue tip #20 featuring a 2% taper at low power for activation, while groups A2 and B2 did not employ any form of activation. The symbol (+) denotes groups with ultrasonic activation, while (-) represents groups without ultrasonic activation. In the middle third, it was observed that BioC Sealer (+) had a mean sealing value of 0.66±0.17, while MTA Fillapex (+) showed a mean value of 0.38±0.07. It was found that BioC Sealer (-) had a mean sealing value of 0.24±0.04 in the middle third, while MTA Fillapex (-) showed a mean value of 0.16±0.04. These differences were not statistically significant (p=0.569). In the apical third, the BioC Sealer (-) presented a mean sealing value of 0.44±0.17, while the MTA Fillapex (-) obtained a mean value of 0.30±0.04. However, this difference did not reach statistical significance (p=0.0745), suggesting that both materials can provide a similar seal in the apical third. The results suggest that both BioC Sealer and MTA Fillapex provide a comparable seal in the middle and apical thirds of the root canal system, however, this was not statistically significant. This indicates their potential efficacy in both endodontic sealing procedures.
ABSTRACTPurposeTo evaluate the current trends and spatiotemporal dynamics of microplastic research and public health through a scientometric study from 2019 to 2024.MethodsAn observational and descriptive approach was applied to the published literature on microplastics and public health published in January 2019 and July 2024. A quantitative approach was used to analyze document production, author–country collaborations and thematic evolution. A comprehensive search of the Scopus database was conducted using a combination of keywords related to “microplastics” and “public health.” Papers that explicitly addressed these topics were considered for analysis. SciVal and R studio software were used for the analyses.ResultsSignificant growth in paper production was observed, with an increase in international collaboration and a diversity of paper types. The most prominent journals in this field include “Science of the Total Environment” and “Journal of Hazardous Materials”, which lead in terms of academic output and impact. There was an upward trend in the number of publications in the Q1 quartile, reflecting growing interest in this field. Several authors have demonstrated a significant impact on microplastic research and its impact on public health, highlighting the importance of further research in this field. In addition, 156 sources and 259 papers related to microplastics and public health research were identified, reflecting the diversity and richness of research in this field. The thematic evolution showed interesting changes in focus topics over time, highlighting the intersection of microplastics with topics such as “covid‐19” and “public health.”ConclusionsThese findings underscore the relevance and urgency of microplastic and public health research and suggest promising directions for future research. The increasing volume of published research in these fields over time reflects the continuing importance of microplastics research and its impact on public health.
Background and Aim: This study focuses on the scientific output of ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne disease that affects a variety of animal species, including dogs, cats, and livestock. Therefore, this study aimed to perform a scientometric mapping of the trends, impact, and thematic evolution of scientific production on ehrlichiosis in veterinary medicine. Materials and Methods: The study design was descriptive and observational, with a quantitative scientometric approach. This study was based on Scopus data collection and analysis from 2018 to 2023. A literature search was conducted on February 12, 2024, and a total of 200 documents were found, of which 177 were articles, 15 book chapters, and eight reviews. A specific search formula was used to obtain documents. The documents were analyzed using SciVal and Bibliometrix in R Studio, focusing on four key metrics: Scholarly Output, View Count, Field-Weighted Citation Impact, and Citation Count. Results: This bibliometric study covered the period from 2018 to 2023 and analyzed 200 papers from 84 different sources. The average number of citations was 3595 and the mean age was 3.17 years. A total of 1874 keywords and 1085 authors were identified, with an average of 6.25 co-authors per paper. International co-authorship was present in 23% of the papers. The papers were distributed as articles (177), book chapters (15), and reviews (8). Conclusion: The combination of these metrics enabled a more complete and accurate assessment of research performance. A total of 1874 keywords and 1085 authors were identified. The thematic evolution from “canine ehrlichiosis” and “Ehrlichia canis” to “dog” and “canine” was observed. Bradford’s and Lotka’s laws were confirmed, with some sources and authors generating most publications.
Purpose: The purpose of this is to examine the visualization, dynamicity, and collaborative networking of scientific production on visible light (VL) and skin aging through scientometric analysis. Materials and Methods: This research consisted of a cross-sectional and descriptive design with a scientometric approach that examined the publication trends and collaborative patterns among authors and institutions from 2018 to 2023. A comprehensive search strategy was also employed by using specific keywords related to VL and skin aging. In this case, several indicators were employed, including scholarly output, view count, field-weighted citation impact (FWCI), and citation count. The analyses were performed by using SciVal software and R Studio version 4.3.2. Results: A total of 180 sources were identified, with 280 documents generated, indicating an annual growth rate of 6.72%. The documents, averaging 3.25 years in age, received an average of 12.14 citations, revealing their impact. Additionally, collaborations were evident, with a ratio of 5.6 coauthors per paper and 25.71% consisting of international collaborations. In terms of institutions, there were notable disparities in scholarly activities and impact metrics, highlighting the diversity of the research landscape. Meanwhile, journals, such as Photodermatology, Photoimmunology and Photomedicine, revealed a substantial impact (FWCI 2.05). Overall, the impact of the journals showed a general upward trend, reflecting dynamicity and variability over time. Conclusion: An annual growth rate of 6.72% was found, with 180 sources and 280 papers on VL and skin aging. Moreover, international collaborations, the positive impact in leading journals, and the distribution patterns identified through scientometric laws underscored the vitality and complexity of the field. These results offer valuable insights into guiding future research in this multidisciplinary field.
Background and Aim: Dogs can detect specific cancer odors with their exceptional sense of smell. This study aimed to conduct a scientometric analysis of canine olfactory detection in oncology, identifying trends, visualizations, and patterns. Materials and Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted using a quantitative-scientometric approach. Scopus was comprehensively searched using terms related to canine olfactory detection in oncology. Documents indexed in Scival software (Elsevier) and published between 2013 and 2022 were included. Results: Claire M. Guest, Rob Harris, and Giuseppe Lippi authored significant academic work. Journals such as Journal of Breath Research and PLoS One rank highly in publications and citations due to significant citation ratios, according to CiteScore’s quartile-based impact analysis. According to Lotka’s and Bradford’s laws, a small group of authors and the Journal of Breath Research, respectively, dominate production in their fields. Conclusion: This analysis forms a solid base for future research on canine olfactory detection in oncology. The collaborative essence of this multidisciplinary field is emphasized by the key contributors and identified patterns, with journals in the Q1 and Q2 quartiles of CiteScore holding significant importance.
AIM:The aim of this study was to perform a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications in dental education. MATERIALS AND METHODS:A cross-sectional research was carried out using a bibliometric methodology. This process entailed the assessment of metadata from scientific publications that are catalogued in the Scopus database, covering the period from January 2018 to August 2023. A variety of indicators were utilized to scrutinize scientific production and dissemination within the academic community. These encompassed elements such as the author, the publication itself, the number of citations, institutional and collaborative affiliations, geographical location, journal quartile ranking, h-index, Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP), Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI), SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), and the CiteScore. RESULTS:Several institutions from different countries and their academic output were found. Beihang University stands out with 16 scholarly articles, followed by Stanford University with 16 articles and 170 citations. The Q1 quartile has experienced a steady increase, reaching 87 scientific articles. The top 10 authors in scientific production on augmented and VR in dentistry include Joe Amal Cecil, Avinash Gupta, and Miguel A Pirela-Cruz. In terms of co-authorship by country, the United States, Germany, and China are the most predominant in the clusters represented. However, other clusters also have a significant presence. By analyzing the explored trends and themes of keyword co-occurrence, four main clusters were identified. The yellow cluster contained the largest amount of research with the keyword "virtual reality." In addition, the blue cluster was found to be best related to the green "simulation," purple "virtual reality (VR)," and light blue "human-centered computing" clusters. CONCLUSION:This study evidenced the availability and quality of the data used for the analysis. Future studies could consider the use of VR systems with integrated eye tracking and compare their effect in dentistry during dental procedures. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:The clinical importance of this study lies in its potential to improve dental education. The VR and AR can provide dental students with immersive, hands-on learning experiences, which can enhance their understanding and clinical skills. Furthermore, the translational value of this study extends beyond dental education. The insights gained from this research could be applicable to other fields of medical education where hands-on training is crucial. Thus, the findings of this study have the potential to influence the broader landscape of medical education, ultimately leading to improved healthcare outcomes. Background and Aim: Understanding dental care in dogs has made remarkable progress in veterinary medicine. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the academic literature published in veterinary dentistry from 1990 to 2023. Materials and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted using a scientometric approach and metadata from the Web of Science database. A search strategy adapted for this database was developed using MeSH and Emtree terms and the Boolean operators AND and OR. Using Bibliometrix, different metrics were evaluated to assess the scientific production of researchers and institutions and the impact of authors based on their publications. CiteSpace was also used for co-citation analysis and visualization of citation networks, trends, and patterns in this field of study over time. Results: The bibliometric study analyzed 211 documents from 50 different sources from 1990 to 2023, with an annual growth rate of 6.5%, covering the period 1990-2023. A total of 474 authors were identified, with an average of 2.82 coauthors per paper and 11.85% international coauthorships. The average age of the papers was 12.4 years and 4.55 citations per paper. The most common types of documents were articles (154 documents). Conclusion: Research in veterinary dentistry has shown steady growth from 1990 to 2023. Although there have been fluctuations in article production over the years, there has been a steady growth in article production in veterinary dentistry in general. The annual average number of citations per article has varied over the years, reaching 45 in 2015. However, the average number of citations per article has decreased significantly from 2021 to 2023.
Abstract Aim: This observational, descriptive, retrospective presentation aimed to analyze the emerging patterns, collaboration, and impact of scientific production on hyaluronic acid (HA) in dentistry. Materials and Methods: A bibliometric analysis of research indexed in Scopus from January 2018 to May 2024 was performed. Emerging patterns, collaboration, impact, Bradford’s law, and Lotka’s law were applied. In addition, thematic maps were designed to visualize the connections between authors and countries. Results: A total of 767 documents from 176 diverse sources were analyzed, identifying 3437 authors. Articles were the most common type of document. The author of the highest scientific output was Sculean Anton of the University of Bern, Switzerland. Most of the articles were published in first-quartile journals, with Clinical Oral Investigation and Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry having the highest number of publications. The University of Bern in Switzerland was the institution with the highest research output. Conclusion: This study provides a comprehensive overview of the academic production of HA in dentistry. The results highlight the importance of international collaboration and the concentration of scientific production in certain institutions and journals. These findings may be useful to researchers and institutions seeking to understand and navigate the field of HA in dentistry.
This study focuses on describing the potential use of medicinal plants in oral health. An electronic search was conducted in the PubMed and Scopus databases, limited to the last ten years. Key terms such as “phytodentistry”, “medicinal herbs”, “antimicrobials”, “dentistry”, “hygiene”, and “oral health” were used. In addition, a manual search was performed to verify the articles cited in the bibliographies of the initial documents and the websites of the corresponding journals were explored. The search strategy was specifically adapted for Scopus and PubMed. In this review, articles dealing with medicinal plants and their potential use in oral health were selected. The results of the reviewed studies were grouped into three main categories: plants with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and healing properties. An overview of the main characteristics, materials used, and designs of the reviewed studies is provided. It was found that several medicinal plants, such as Aloe Vera, Turmeric, and Cocoa, have significant potential for use in oral health. These plants have proven to be effective in studies to improve oral health. However, further research is needed to confirm these findings and develop practical applications for their use in dentistry. This study underscores the importance of further exploring the potential of medicinal plants in promoting oral health.
This study aim to analyze the scientific productivity of the journal "Odovtos-International Journal of Dental Sciences" during the period from 2019 to 2023. Manuscripts were selected from the Scopus database using the search criterion `SRCTITLE ("Odovtos-International Journal of Dental Sciences") AND PUBYEAR > 2019 AND PUBYEAR < 2024`. During the evaluated period, 164 manuscripts were identified in the journal. Of these, 36 articles, 14 reviews, 7 editorials, and 7 letters to the editor were evaluated. The selected manuscripts were analyzed in terms of their content, authors, institutions, countries of origin, keywords provided by the authors, and citations received. Amaury De Jes & uacute;s PozosGuillen, from the Universidad Aut & oacute;noma de San Luis Potosi in Mexico, had the highest academic production with a total of 10 publications. Adri & aacute;n G & oacute;mez-Fern & aacute;ndez, from the University of Costa Rica, showed a high Field-Weighted Citation Impact (Field-Weighted Citation Impact) with a value of 0.45, having received 43 citations in total. The University of Costa Rica led in terms of academic production with 44 publications. The Universidad Cientifica del Sur in Peru produced 15 publications. Despite having only 5 publications, the Universidad Arturo Prat in Chile achieved a high citation impact weighted by field of 0.86. The results of the analysis provided valuable insight into scholarly production and collaboration among authors in the journal. The findings of this study may be useful for researchers, journal editors, and policy makers to better understand the dynamics and trends in the field of dental sciences.
BACKGROUND:The convergence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) and tuberculosis (TB) may lead to increased mortality and complications, so the underlying mechanism is under investigation. Therefore, a bibliometric analysis was performed to describe the bibliometric indicators of publications evaluating the relationship between TB and DM2. METHODS:A descriptive and observational bibliometric study was conducted using the Scopus database to identify documents published from 2016-2023, for which free and controlled terms (Medical subject headings and Emtree) were used. The variables collected comprised the number of published documents, institutions, countries, authors, journals, and type of collaboration, which were exported to Excel 2016 and analyzed with SciVal. RESULTS:A total of 456 documents, 1624 authors, and 2173 citations were identified, with Medicine and Immunology-Microbiology being the subcategories with the highest and lowest number of documents (367 and 80 documents), respectively, with a strong decreasing trend correlation (R2: 0.95; P < 0.5) between the number and year of publication. While the country with the highest production was China (71 papers), the country with the highest citation was the United States (952 citations). In terms of authors, the highest production was by the American Venketaraman, and the highest impact was by the Asian Kimberly To. The institution with the highest number of papers was the Western University of Health Sciences, while Stellenbosch had the highest impact. CONCLUSION:Although the scientific productivity of DM2 and TB have reported growth rates of 158.75% and 7.3%, respectively, our results found a decreasing trend in publications associating these two diseases. The thematic evolution of the concepts in both diseases suggests that the relationship between them is not yet known, so future studies evaluating the underlying mechanisms of this comorbidity are suggested.
AIM:To conduct a scientometric analysis on black stains, and dental caries, with a focus on identifying emergent patterns, collaborative networks, and thematic evolution. MATERIALS AND METHODS:A retrospective, descriptive, observational study was conducted using a scientometric approach. The Scopus database was utilized for literature search, selecting articles published between 1976 and 2023. The literature search was carried out on February 8, 2024, using AND and OR Boolean operators which were adapted to the search strategy. Finally, SciVal used different scientometric indicators such as "Scholarly Output", "Views Count", "Field-Weighted Citation Impact" and the "Citation Count". RESULTS:A total of 13 documents from 10 different sources were analyzed, covering a period from 1976 to 2023. Despite an annual growth rate of 0%, each document has an average of 21.08 citations, indicating their relevance in the field. The documents have an average age of 12.9 years and contain 336 references. A total of 143 additional keywords and 26 author keywords were identified. The documents were written by 62 different authors, with an average of 5 coauthors per document and 30.77% international coauthorships. CONCLUSION:The results indicate a significant relevance of the documents in the field, a notable collaboration among authors, and a significant thematic evolution in the research topics. The mentioned institutions and sources produced documents with notable results, indicating a significant interest and impact in the field. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:This study provides a detailed view of the trends and patterns in the research of dental caries and black stains. The findings can assist dental health professionals in better understanding the prevalence and impact of these conditions. Aim:This narrative review aimed at identifying the existing scientific literature investigating periodontitis and neuropathic diseases. Materials and Methods:A search of the literature published between 2000 and 2022 was carried out in the electronic databases of Scopus and PubMed. Studies in which the eligible articles were mainly published in English were included. Descriptive correlational studies, case-control studies, comparative studies, and cohort studies were also included. The following main keywords were used: "Neuropathic diseases," "Periodontitis," "Alzheimer's disease," and "Porphyromonas gingivalis." Results:This narrative review found that cognitively impaired persons with severe periodontitis had a higher prevalence and incidence of periodontal diseases than the rest of the population. A significant positive correlation of salivary interleukin (IL)-1beta and immediate recall scores involved in cognition was also evident. It indicates that the most investigated parameter was whether there is any common link between periodontal disease and neurodegeneration. No randomized controlled clinical studies were found in the current literature review. Conclusions:Based on the literature reviewed, there is currently no strong scientific evidence to support or discourage the cause-effect relationship of periodontal diseases and neurodegenerative diseases.
Abstract Aim: The objective of this study is to perform a bibliometric mapping of the scientific production of lasers in endodontics using collaborative networks, impact, and trends. Materials and Methods: This retrospective and descriptive study used a bibliometric design to analyze laser use in endodontics in Scopus from 2018 to 2024. In total, 877 documents were identified using key terms and MeSH. Bibliometric indicators were used to explore scientific activity and impact, and VOSviewer was used for data analysis. Results: It was found that the year with the highest number of publications was 2023, with 166, and the quartiles with the highest productivity were Q1 (40.3%) and Q2 (31.1%). Among the top 5 countries with the highest publications production, Brazil led the group with 125, followed by India (111). Among the institutions with the highest production, the Universidade de São Paulo tops the list with 51 research papers, closely followed by the Tehran University of Medical Sciences with 32 and the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho with 30. Among the most outstanding authors, we have Chiniforush Nasim, who has 20 papers; however, Duarte Marco has an h-index of 48, and Sivieri-Araújo Gustavo has the highest number of citations. Conclusion: This bibliometric mapping reaffirmed the vision and trends of lasers in endodontics, with 2023 being the most relevant in terms of scientific production and, among the countries with the highest number of publications, Brazil stood out.
Objective: To examine the thematic evolution and scientific productivity of the relationship between deep brain stimulation (DBS) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Materials and methods: A descriptive study using a scientometric approach was conducted using the Scopus database between 2019 and July 2024. Data were exported to the SciVal bibliometric analysis tool, and bibliometric indicators, such as number of publications per country/region, citations per publication, and h -index, were used. Results: A total of 150 publications were obtained, mostly of high quality (Q1) and coming from the USA and China. Lozano was the most productive author, and the University of Toronto in Canada had the highest number of publications. The journal with the highest impact was Frontiers in Neuroscience with 21.3 citations/paper, and most authors only published one article. Conclusions: The bibliometric study revealed decreasing research trends but mostly highlighted large international collaborations, especially in high-impact journals. The findings can serve as a basis for future research and policies evaluating the impact of DBS in the management of patients with AD.
AIM:To perform a bibliometric study of periodontal disease and Alzheimer's disease (AD) focusing on trends, collaborative efforts, and emerging patterns. MATERIALS AND METHODS:From January 2018 to May 2024, an observational study was carried out utilizing metadata extracted from the Scopus database. A search methodology, specifically designed for this database, was developed using MeSH terms combined with Boolean operators such as "AND" and "OR". The Bibliometrix tool was employed to facilitate the study, using indicators including the number of citations and publications, the authorship of the publication, the country of origin, the year of publication, the type of publication, the H-index, WorldMap, Sankey diagram, keyword analysis, topic evolution, and scientific findings. RESULTS:A total of 50.7 and 27.3% of the publications were in Q1 and Q2 quartile journals. The University of Central Lancashire has the most publications (17), but the University of California at San Francisco has the highest impact (1545 citations per publication). The journal Periodontology 2000 had a total of 643 citations per publication. Sim Kaur Singhrao (16) and Ingar Olsen (10) were the authors with the most publications, whereas Eric C Reynolds had the highest impact with 1,300 citations. CONCLUSIONS:This bibliometric study found a gradual growth in publications, with the highest number of studies during 2021 and 2022, followed by a decrease in subsequent years, with Q1 and Q2 journals predominating. In terms of scientific productivity, the United States is the leading country in this area of research. The journal Periodontology 2000 had the highest number of citations, demonstrating the particular interest of periodontology in studying the association between periodontal disease and systemic diseases. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE:The present study is significant because the relationship between periodontitis and Alzheimer is currently considered a novel multidisciplinary research opportunity, given that it includes both medical and dental specialties. This research also provides a valuable contribution to academics, universities, and research centers because it will allow us to understand trends and new research horizons and identify the most productive authors. INTRODUCTIONGenital tuberculosis (GT) is an infection that can affect the female reproductive system, including the uterus, cervix, and ovaries.OBJECTIVETo perform a scientometric exploration to analyze the spatiotemporal trend, evolution, and emerging patterns of scholarly output on GT and female infertility.METHODSAn observational, descriptive, retrospective study employing a scientometric methodology was carried out. Metadata from scholarly articles spanning the years 1990 to 2022 were extracted from the Web of Science. The metadata from the chosen articles, totaling 172 manuscripts, were exported on May 17, 2023, in plain text format, which will allow the analysis and integration of the data in the software used.RESULTSWe found at 111 sources and found 172 documents on tuberculosis and female infertility. We observed an average annual growth rate of 7.46%, and the average age of the documents was 10.4 years. The dual overlay map showed the distribution of scientific publications on tuberculosis and female infertility. Journals on the left side of the map are cited mainly in the journals on the right. We found that Clinical Infectious Diseases and Lancet journals condensed patterns and trends in 1995, while the Indian Journal of Tuberculosis did so in 1996. Dheda K., Joubert JJ., and Wang Y. were the authors who had India, Iran, and China as their main affiliation, respectively, and they mainly published their studies in the "American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine" and "Tropical Doctor," among others.CONCLUSIONSThis bibliometric study examined different sources and found an average annual growth rate of 7.46%. Each article received an average of 16.48 citations. Different collaborative networks between countries were observed. In addition, there was a steady growth in published research in the field of tuberculosis and female infertility.
There is often a lack of standardization in the publication of this type of bibliometrics and scientometrics studies, which makes it difficult to evaluate their validity and contrast the findings. Hence, inspired by the existence of different guidelines for other methodological designs, a group of Peruvian bibliometricians develop guidelines for the presentation of bibliometric and scientometric studies focusing on the three main types of studies used in bibliometrics and scientometrics: citations, number of publications, co-citation analysis, co-occurrence analysis and social network analysis, structural patterns, spatial distribution, etc. Bibliometricians, editors, and researchers collaborated to develop the RAMIBS guideline: Reporting and Measurement of Items for Bibliometric or Scientometric Studies for verifying the items that should be included in the reports of bibliometric and scientometric studies. This process of consensus, drafting, and review resulted in a checklist of 12 items that are related to the title, abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion of the articles. It is hoped that these guidelines will improve the quality of the presentation of bibliometric and scientometric studies, thus facilitating their reporting, evaluation, and application.
