LAST summer a group of twelve teachers in a large mid-American city spent one whole, ghastly, hot June day drawing a composite picture of the students they teach. Students are restless, they said. They want to be stimulated in the classroom as they are by strobe lights, rock music, and television. They have a hyper-interest in clothes and cars. Their recreational activities consist of cruising around, going to drive-in movies, and congregating in cars at eating spots. They drink, shoot pool, bowl. They come to school because of what happens between classes and during the lunch hour.
