Were determined total tract digestibility (TTD) indices in type B sugar cane molasses and soybean meal diets (67.6/30.4 %, dry matter), formulated to contain 0, 5, 10 or 15 % of Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth foliage meal, offered completely randomized to 32 pigs of 30 kg live weight. The dry matter, organic matter and energy TTD indices decreased significantly (p = 0.001) with increasing as the proportion of foliage in the feed increased. The crude fiber and acid detergent fiber (ADF) had similar results, but not neutral detergent fiber (NDF). The calculation of protein and energy TTD indices, made by difference had values of 71.7 and 57.6 %, respectability, in albizia foliage meal. The intake 15 % of albizia foliage meal in diet offered ad libitum to growing pigs, can determine noticeable changes in TTD indices when offered to animals fed type B sugar cane molasses diets.
Se determinaron índices de digestibilidad del tracto total (DTT) en dietas de miel de caña de azúcar del tipo B y harina de soya (67.6/30.4%, base seca), formuladas para contener 0, 5, 10 ó 15% de harina de follaje de albizia (Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth.), brindadas de forma completamente aleatorizadas a 32 cerdos de 30 kg de peso vivo. La DTT de MS, materia orgánica y energía decrecieron significativamente (P=0.001) al aumentar la proporción del follaje en el alimento. La DTT de fibra cruda y FDA mostraron resultados similares (P=0.001), pero no FDN. El cálculo de la DTT de proteína y energía, hecho por diferencia reveló valores de 71.7 y 57.6%, respectivamente, en la harina de follaje de albizia. El consumo de 15% de harina de follaje de albizia en la dieta suministrada en condiciones ad libitum a cerdos de crecimiento, puede determinar cambios perceptibles en los índices de DTT cuando se proporciona a los animales alimentados con dietas de miel de caña de azúcar del tipo B.
In vitro (pepsin/pancreatin) digestibility coefficients of pulp, seed, and peel of avocados of the Creole and Hass varieties were studied according to a 2 x 3 factorial arrangement in which the factors were the variety and parts of the fruit. Creole avocado were heavier in natura than Hass exemplars (310.7 g and 156.8 g), whereas Hass had a greater proportion of pulp than the Creole fruits (76.0% and 64.6%). No significant interactions were observed. In vitro digestibility of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), and nitrogen (N) were higher for the Creole variety compared with the Hass. In vitro digestibility of N was similar in the pulp and seeds, and higher than in the peels (731, 773, and 550 g/kg-1, respectively). Use of the entire avocado as pig feedstuff would have a lower nutritional value compared with feeding just avocado pulp. Supplementation of a diet based on avocado with additional protein may be needed for optimal production.
Acceptability indexes and food consumption pattern were measured in diets of type B sugarcane molasses and soybean meal, made with variable levels (0, 5, 10 and 15 %) of Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth foliage meal, were offered in a completely randomized way to 32 pigs of 30 kg live weight. When treatments were compared with each other, some depression in acceptability with the 15 % diet of albizia was found (p = 0.039). The speed of intake and meal size decreased as the inclusion of albizia foliage increased (p < 0.01). Visits to the feeder (p = 0.007) and time eating increased (p = 0.001) as the meal content of this foliage in the feed increased. It is suggested that albizia foliage meal does not appear to contain substances that inhibit voluntary feed intake, at least in diets with sugar cane molasses, which may determine substantial changes in the acceptability and pattern of feed consumption of pigs.
Se midieron índices de aceptabilidad y del patrón de consumo de alimentos en dietas de miel de caña de azúcar del tipo B y pasta de soya, elaboradas con niveles variables (0, 5, 10 y 15%) de harina de follaje de Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth ofrecidas de forma completamente aleatorizadas a 32 cerdos de 30 kg de peso vivo. Cuando los tratamientos se compararon entre sí, se encontró cierta depresión en la aceptabilidad con la dieta del 15% de albizia (P=0.039). La velocidad de ingestión y el tamaño de ración disminuyeron al aumentar la inclusión del follaje de albizia en la comida (P<0.01). Las visitas al comedero (P=0.007) y el tiempo comiendo se incrementaron (P=0.001) al aumentar el contenido de harina de este follaje en el alimento. Se sugiere que la harina de follaje de albizia no parece contener sustancias inhibidoras del consumo voluntario de alimento, al menos en dietas con melaza de caña de azúcar, que puedan determinar cambios sustanciales en la aceptabilidad y el patrón de consumo del alimento por parte de los cerdos.
Twelve plots of 15 m2 planted with an indeterminate variety of mulberry ( Morus alba ) with wide leaves underwent periodic cuts every 30, 60, 90 and 120 days to study, according to a random block design, the nutritional value of mulberry foliage meal by the technique of in vitro ileal (pepsin/pancreatin) and fecal digestibility. Cell wall content and N bound to that wall increased significantly (P = 0.004) with the cut age while the N content tended to decrease (P = 0.059). The ileal digestibility of organic matter and N decreased from 68.1 and 59.4 % to 44.2 and 30.0 % (P <0.05), respectively, in samples of 30 cutting days up to others of 120 days (P <0.01). Similarly, fecal digestibility of DM and organic matter went from 66.7 and 68.0 % to 45.3 and 51.0 % (P <0.01), respectively. Cutting age exerts a determining influence on the nutritional value of mulberry foliage meal provided to pigs, which worsens as cut frequency decreases. This research was carried out in order to evaluate the ruminal degradability of different silage based on agroindustrial and mango wastes ( Mangifera indica c.v. Tommy Atkins) with the addition of with 2 levels of maize stubble, molasses and agricultural urea. With a simple classification design to determine in situ ruminal degradability of DM in six silage alternatives, the nylon bag technique was used in four rumen fistulated sheep. Degradation times of DM were 0, 4, 8, 16, 34, 48, 72 and 96 hours. There was significant effect (P 0.05) for the degradation kinetic constant (c) nor for potential degradation (a + b). Effective degradation was significant (P <0.05) in silages with a higher content of mango wastes compared to the other four types of materials. It is concluded that treatments with the highest content of whole fruit or industrial waste, demonstrated the best degradation, maybe due to its high content of fermentable material. It is suggested to srudy performance tests in ruminants fed with silage from mango wastes, as well as to carry out in vivo digestion studies. A total of 16 Yorkshire x Landrace pigs, castrated males and females in a 1: 1 ratio, with an average of 67.0 kg of live weight, were randomly distributed in two treatments, which consisted of diets formulated to contain 0 and 21 % of fresh paste of waste avocado (Persea americana Mill.). The paste was made up of ripe whole fruits, and contained 14.3 % of crude fiber and 49.2 % of ether extract. There was a significant decrease (P = 0.001) in food intake and feed conversion in animals fed with avocado diet (2.34 kg DM/d and 2.75 kg DM/kg gain) with respect to those of the control diet (3.30 kg DM/d and 3.13 kg DM/kg gain). The performance traits were significantly correlated (P = 0.001) between each other. The animals intake less (58.3 %) of the food offered with paste with respect to the offer that did not contain it (74.4 %) (P = 0.143). The ingestion speed decreased from 50.1 to 31.5 g fresh / min (P = 0.027) and from 43.5 to17.7 g DM/min (P = 0.001). It is suggested that 21 % of fresh paste of waste avocado in the diet influences positively on the feed conversion efficiency of finished pigs, but the weight gain decreases when the voluntary intake of food reduces.Key words: pigs, zootechnics, Persea americana, ingestionspeed
The in vitro digestibility (pepsin/pancreatine) of DM, organic matter and N in 15 samples of coconut endosperm (Cocos nucifera L.) defatted or not, grated in natura, from the western Cuban provinces of Artemisa, Mayabeque and Havana, according to a 2 x 3 factorial arrangement with five replications. Defatting determined a significant decrease or increase (P 0.05) of defatting or of stocking origin on the in vitro digestibility of DM, organic matter and N, and reached averages of 48.7, 44.5 and 57.7 %, respectively. It is suggested that the coconut endosperm, given ground and in natura to pigs, can have a considerable use as an energetic and protein source, due to its ileal digestibility.
