Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of high-frequency electrotome in the treatment of young children with ankyloglossia.Methods:We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of 168 cases with ankyloglossia from Ocotober 2009 to May 2010.These children underwent frenotomy with high-frequency electrotome.Mean age was 3.8 years(range from 13 months to 7 years) Among the 168 patients,92 were male and 76 were female.Results:The operations were performed successfully in 167 of all 168 patients.Success rate was 99.4%.There were minor complications such as 2 patients with haemorrhage after the operations.After 2 weeks and 6 months of follow-up,1 patient needed a repeat procedure in the same way on another day.Conclusions:Clinic-based frenotomy using high-frequency electrotome is an efficacious,economical and safe treatment for young children.
