Physiological activities of solvent extracts of Sparassis crispa were investigated for fibrinolytic, thrombin inhibitory, anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities. The fibrinolytic activity was the highest in ethyl acetate extract (2.03 plasmin units/mL) followed by butanol extract (0.70 plasmin units/mL). The ethyl acetate extract exhibited the highest anti-oxidative activity as assessed by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging rate with a value of 95.94%. The chloroform extract showed thrombin inhibitory activity up to 83.87%. The chloroform extract also showed the highest anti-inflammatory effects on the production of nitric oxide (NO) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. These findings suggest that Sparassis crispa may be a useful material for development of drugs and functional foods.

In this study, the biological activities of 33 kinds of wild mushroom methanol extracts were investigated. Boletellus elatus showed the greatest fibrinolytic activity (1.08 plasmin units/mL) in a fibrin plate assay, and the activity of Heterobasidion insulasis was 0.89 plasmin units. The thrombin inhibitory activities of Boletellus elatus and Heterobasidion insulasis were 93.32% and 93.69%, respectively. In a ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory activity test, Laccaria amethystina showed the greatest inhibitory activity at 81.25%. The antioxidative activities of Gomphus sp. and Geastrum lageniforme were 91.37% and 90.42%, respectively. Since Boletellus elatus and Heterobasidion insulasis have strong fibrinolytic and thrombin inhibitory and antioxidative activities, the two mushrooms can be used as material for the development of biofunctional foods for cardiovascular diseases.

One interesting parasitic forming fungus, being grown on the eggs of Phallus impudicus was collected from Mulchajoreum and on woods of Saryeoni in Jeju island. This taxon identified as a solmsii (E. Fisch.) S. Imai f. octospora Yoshim. (Hyporeaceae) based on morphological characteristics. According to the interpretation of Doi(1978), this taxon hsving the stipitate, genus Podostroma, family Hypocreaceae, Hypocreales, Ascomycota was identified as solmsi f. octospora and its korean common name designated by authors. This species is characterized in having the fusiforme to ellipsoidal, unicellular and warted ascospores without septate and with blunt apiculus at each end and mycoparasitic habitat. Although there is some mycologists suggest that this taxon having above characters needs to be derived from Hypomyces. But authors are primarily going to record this species as a named Podostroma solmsii (E. Fisch.) S. Imai f. octospora Yoshim. Doi for the fungus flora of Korea. In a future, it is need in detail to compare their DNA sequencing data on the type species and some related species. All collections cited here are deposited in the Herbarium Conservation Center of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Peyritschiella protea were found on the lower abdomen of Philonthus wuesthoffi, this species have two perithecia and two antheridia produced on the third layer of receptacle. Phylogenetic Analysis of Nuclear Ribosomal DNA Intergenic Spacer (IGS) I Region of Genus Agaricus Young Hyun Ryu 1 *, Woo Sik Jo 1 *, Sung Guk Choi 1 *, Jong Guk Kim 2 , Jae Tak Yoon 3 and Jung Sik Park 4 1 Dept. Plant Environment, GyungBuk ATA. 2 Dept. Microbiology, Kyungpook Natl. Univ. 3 GyungBuk ATA. 4 NIAST, RDA Phylogenetic relationship of genus Agaricus was studied by comparing the nuclear ribosomal intergenic spacer (IGS) I region and structural characteristics was analyzed. IGS I region of 5 species (A. bisporus, A. edulis, A. bitorquis, A. campestris, A. potobella) of Agaricus was from 1,323 bp (A. bisporus ASI 1056) to 1,491 bp (A. potobella ASI 1210) long and GC contents were 47% (A. bisporus) to 49% (A. potobella). Size difference of IGS 1 region among Agaricus species was caused by sequence insertion in 3' end region, especially A. potobella. and inserted sequence was higher GC content than other IGS sequence and have repeated GG/GC patterns. ITS region was widely used in phylogenetic relation of basidiomycetes, but fungal ribosomal IGS region was not well understood and applied yet. Our study indicated that IGS region can be a good tool in phylogenetic study of basidiomycetes. The Identification and Characterization of Halophilic Fungi, Eurotium spp., Isolated from Marine Anchovies Su Young Kim 1 , Hee-Gon Choi 1,2 , Mira Jin 1 and Kwang-Yeop Jahng 1,3 * 1 Division of Biological Sciences, Chonbuk National University. 2 Research Institute of Water Environment, CNU. 3 Basic Science Research Institute, CNU We have isolated halophilic fungi from Korean traditional food, jeotkal, which is madeof salted anchovies. These filamentous fungi that formed the sexual structure cleistothecium could not grow without salt in growth medium. Spores were lysed by osmostress under no salt condition so that they could not germinate. All strains from anchovy jeotkal were also isolated from the surface tissue such as scales and gills of raw anchovy, but not from liver and digestive organs, implying that these isolates originated from sea water. The phylogenetic analyses based on the sequence comparison of 18S, 28S and ITS region of rDNA suggested that they classified into the genus Eurotium. Species of Eurotium typically produce bright yellow cleistothecia and dull green spinose conidia which are formed from phialides only. The nucleotide sequence of 28S region of isolates showed 100~99% identity to that of E. herbariorum and E. rubrum, suggesting that they should be highly related to these species. Morphological, physiological and molecular characteristics further supported that these fungal isolates belong to halophilic species of the genus Eurotium. Abstract For investigation of the species diversity of the Genus Crepidotus in Korea and constructing a key to Korean Crepidotus species, a total of 65 specimens, collected from 18 locations from 1982 to 2002, were observed for morphological characters of carpophores and other features. All the specimens have been preserved in the herbarium of the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, R.D.A., Suwon, Korea. The specimens were identified according to the classification systems given by Hesler and Smith (1965), Nordstein (1990), Orton (1960), Pilat (1948), Senn-Irlet (1991, 1992, 1993) and Singer (1951, 1973, 1986). In this study, a total of 10 Crepidotus species were confirmed. Among them, Korean common names were designated to six unrecorded species as follows: C. uber, “적귀버섯”; C. hygrophanus, “곤약귀버섯” C. latifolius, “꼬마무리귀버섯”; C. obscurus, “먼지귀버섯”; C. subverrucisporus, “분롬귀버섯”; and C. circinatus, “노년고리귀버섯”. A key to 10 Crepidotus species has been constructed.
