In bibliometrics, there are two main procedures to explore a research field: performance analysis and science mapping. Performance analysis aims at evaluating groups of scientific actors (countries, universities, departments, researchers) and the impact of their activity on the basis of bibliographic data. Science mapping aims at displaying the structural and dynamic aspects of scientific research, delimiting a research field, and quantifying and visualizing the detected sub-fields by means of co-word analysis or documents co-citation analysis. In this paper we present two bibliometric tools that we have developed in our research laboratory SECABA: (i) H-Classics to develop performance analysis based on Highly Cited Papers and (ii) SciMAT to develop science mapping guided by performance bibliometric indicators.
In today's organizations, group decision making has become a part of everyday organizational life. It involves multiple indi- viduals interacting to reach a decision. An important question here is the level of agreement or consensus achieved among the individuals before making the decision. Traditionally, consensus has been meant to be a full and unanimous agreement. How- ever, it is often not reachable in practice. A more reasonable approach is the use of softer consensus measures, which assess the consensus in a more flexible way, reflecting the large spectrum of possible partial agreements and guiding the discussion process until widespread agreement is achieved. As soft consensus measures are more human-consistent in the sense that they better reflect a real human perception of the essence of consensus, consensus models based on these kind of measures have been widely proposed. The aim of this contribution is to present a bibliometric study performed on the consensus approaches that have been proposed in a fuzzy environment. It gives an overview about the research products gathered in this research field. To do so, several points have been studied, among others: countries, journals, top contributing authors, most cited keywords, papers and authors. This allows us to show a quick shot of the state of the art in this research area.
Objectives: This article reports the first science mapping analysis of the social work field, which shows its conceptual structure and scientific evolution. Methods: Science Mapping Analysis Software Tool, a bibliometric science mapping tool based on co-word analysis and h-index, is applied using a sample of 18,794 research articles published from 1930 to 2012 in 25 main social work journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports of the Web of Science. Results: Published research social work field concentrated in eight main thematic areas: children, social services, health care, violence, women, HIV/AIDS, social workers, and education. HIV/AIDS and violence have recently attracted the interest of the social word scientific community, while the rest are classical thematic areas that still attract the interest and efforts of the researchers. Conclusion: This conceptual and empirical analysis shows how research themes have evolved in social work.
Citation classics identify those highly cited papers which are an important reference point in a research field. Identifying citation classics in a research field is one of the main approaches used to conduct a systematic evaluation of research performance. Highly cited articles are interesting due to the potential association between high citation counts and high quality research. The aim of this study is to identify and analyze the most frequently cited papers published into the Fuzzy Decision Making research field, using the H-Classics approach which is based in the well-known H-index. The Fuzzy Decision Making is represented by 70 highly citations classics which where published from 1981 to 2010. Furthermore, authors, affiliations, journals and the concept covered by those 70 highly cited documents are analyzed. We identify three countries that have contributed substantially to development of the Fuzzy Decision Making research field: Spain, Peoples Republic of China and USA. Regarding the journals, Fuzzy Sets and Systems, European Journal of Operation Research, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems and International Journal of Intelligent Systems are the ones where the citations classics have been mainly published. Finally, the concepts covered by those citations classics are related with techniques and tools used in Fuzzy Sets theory and Fuzzy Decision Making research field, and terms related with Decision making theory and its developments. The objective of this work is to identify and analyze Spanish scientific production in the area of social work according to the bibliographic databases of international reference owned by Thomson Reuters, Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports. To do this, we will recover from the Web of Science all documents published by Spanish in international journals indexed in the Social Work category indexed by Journal Citation Reports in its edition of Social Sciences. On the one hand, we analyze the most relevant authors and universities, and on the other hand, we analyze the content of the documents by means of the mapping science tool SciMAT, in order to identify thematic areas that have been investigated.

Libraries incessantly undergo change determined by evolving user needs. These are often induced by the emergence of previously unavailable tools. Web 2.0 represents an example of such a need-shifting technology, which has led to an embrace of new user interactivity services for many library websites, thus coined Library 2.0. This paradigm shift calls for new evaluation models to include the implementation of Web 2.0 technologies. The aim of this paper is to present such a model, and to evaluate the quality of Library 2.0 functionalities, measuring the quality of the 2.0 services offered through the websites based on user perception. We adopt fuzzy linguistic modeling to represent user perception, and apply aggregation operations to linguistic labels in order to evaluate the quality of the new services. Furthermore, our model subsumes the LibQUAL+methodology, allowing for the identification of specific 2.0 functionalities in need of improvement and of those outstandingly satisfied by the system. Web 2.0 tools have changed the relationship between users and libraries by improving the involvement of users in the libraries activities. To use such tools efficiently, it is essential to know if they are meeting user requirements and expectations, and how they could be improved to increase user satisfaction. The aim of this paper is to present a model to evaluate the quality of the Library 2.0 services. To do so, the quality assessments are defined using user’s perceptions on the quality of the Library 2.0 services provided though the websites of the libraries. We assume a fuzzy linguistic modeling to represent the user’s perceptions and apply tools of fuzzy computing with words based on the LOWA and LWA operators to compute the quality assessments of the Library 2.0 services. In addition, the model uses the LibQUAL+ methodology, allowing for the identification of specific 2.0 services in need of improvement and of those outstandingly satisfied by the library.
This paper proposes an analytical reconstruction of the main topics that sociological thought has developed and articulated about the concept of community. After a critical outlook on classical thinkers, it analyses communitarian hypotheses which are developed in the contemporary literature, setting a general typology of the proposed approaches and appraising their conceptual novelties. Five ideal-types are distinguished: classical community, territorial community, communicative community, aesthetic community and neo-communitarian community.
Although rarely contemplated by social science, social associations constitute emergent forms inside the third sector’s «organizational galaxy». This article attempts to shed light on this reality by first defining the concept of social association itself, placing special emphasis on the autonomy of these associations and on the dynamics and processes they generate. We then make an approach to the European context in which social associations insert themselves, with structural and cultural factors that influence their development. As original associative forms, they differ from other subjects in the private and social arena depending on their purpose, fields and types of intervention, resources, internal organization and associative culture, and all of these aspects will be analysed in this article.
