This article deals with politologically relevant dimensions of contemporary computer games, in particular with their entertainment media presentation of politics or political culture. Based on the building blocks of a political theory of games, some forms of the political imagination of popular culture are explored by means of a short case study on the construction and management simulation game Tropico 5 (2014). From the political and economic simulations of this game, in which one slips into the role of the head of an island state, some basic lines of the political as well as some stylistic means of their presentation will be elaborated. The main focus is on examining the images of the exercise of power, statehood and political conflicts as they are conveyed (or criticised) in the game???s narratives. These aspects help us to clarify the reservoir of political imagination that can be hidden in game worlds.

This article deals with the political philosophy of the falasifa, particularly with the specific esotericism of Ibn Rushd (also known as Averroes). One aim of this article is to point out that this tradition was a pre-modern, cautious form of Enlightenment that influenced Western thought via its unorthodox reception by the Latin Averroists. The 'double truth' theory of the latter makes us turn our attention to a writing technique also used by the adherents of falasifa themselves. Accordingly, the second aim of this article is related to the Platonic style of esoteric political communication. A close reading and interpretation of Ibn Rushd's Decisive Treatise uncovers his position in the conflict between Greek philosophy and Islamic revelation. By referring to passages from the falasifa's works and to insights from Straussian hermeneutics, it is shown that this tradition considered philosophical truth to be politically dangerous, therefore promoting its form of Enlightenment only in an esoteric aspect accessible for the few who were initiated.

Der Beitrag zeigt, wie eine politiktheoretische Renaissance (im Sinne einer Reintegration klassischer, humanistischer Ansätze) dazu beitragen könnte, die zeitgenössische Politikwissenschaft von ihren blinden Flecken zu befreien. Ausgehend von einer Diagnose verbreiteter Mangelerscheinungen wird versucht, die Gräben zwischen natur- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Perspektiven zu überbrücken. Das Feld der politischen Anthropologie, das die Schnittstelle zwischen klassischer politischer Philosophie und Naturforschung darstellt, gilt als Fundament für die Brücke, auf der sich Humanismus und politikwissenschaftlicher Mainstream wieder annähern könnten. Eine besondere Rolle spielen jene Ansätze der antiken Philosophie, die Natur und Kultur des Menschen gleichermaßen thematisieren. Deren Anthropologie erweist sich als anschlussfähig an einen zeitgenössischen Wissensstand.

This contribution demonstrates how a renaissance in political theory (in the sense of a reintegration of classical humanistic approaches) could contribute to freeing contemporary political science from its blind spots. Starting with a diagnosis of widespread shortcomings, it tries to bridge the gap between natural sciences and cultural studies. The field of political anthropology, which is the interface between classical political philosophy and natural science, is providing the base for the bridge that enables humanism and the political science mainstream to meet again. Ancient philosophical approaches dealing with the nature and culture of men alike play a special role in this. Their anthropology turns out to be able to catch up with contemporary knowledge.
