Grounded in attachment and destination image theories, this paper explores how destination positioning shapes the relationships among recommendation intentions, destination familiarity, and communication. This paper also analyzes the moderating effect of destination credibility. A sequential mixed methods approach was adopted, starting with a quantitative survey of 718 international tourists to Thailand, followed by qualitative interviews with 21 participants. Results highlighted a strong correlation between destination positioning and recommendation intention, with perceived credibility further strengthening it. Qualitative findings identified three pillars of credibility perception: emotional attachment, cultural resonance, and trust in governance. Feasible recommendations are sought from tourism policymakers to ensure that destination positioning strategies align with credible signals that sustain credibility.
This paper analyzes employee citizenship behaviors (ECBs) following the implementation of workplace safety training within Thailand's disaster-affected tourism sector through the social exchange theory lens. In the Thai tourism disaster sector, safety programs will be viewed as organizational support. At the same time, ECBs reciprocated regarding organizational support. This paper analyzes data from Thai tourism service providers in well-known Thai tourism destinations using SmartPLS v.4.4. It elaborates on the relationships between safety training and work engagement dimensions (vigor, dedication, and absorption) and the effect of the latter on ECB. Results showed that safety training has a significant positive impact on ECB, with employee vigor and dedication partially mediating this effect. At the same time, absorption proved to be a non-valuable mediator. In times of crisis, the relationship goes to psychological engagement and socially responsible actions. From an engagement and organizational recovery perspective, this paper concluded that employee discretionary behaviors influence tourism organizations' disaster recovery efforts following tourism safety programs.
Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore whether social support at home or the workplace influences the associations of work-domain stressors and work-family conflicts. Moreover, this study empirically interrogates the role of energy depletion in these circumstances. Design/methodology/approach For the sake of empirical investigation, the data is collected from 368 employees in the banking sector of Pakistan through an employee intercept-based technique, preferring frontline employees who directly engage in face-to-face interactions with customers. This study used partial least square structural equation model technique for explaining moderation and mediation, along with hypotheses testing. Findings The findings of this study show the potential impact of work stressors, that is, workload and work stress, on energy depletion and work-family conflict. The workload was dominant for work-family conflicts, whereas the severity of work stress is more energy depletion. Social support at home and work also significantly moderates these positive impacts. Originality/value This study, thus, provides novel empirical insights regarding the impact of multidimensional work stressors on employees’ work-family conflict and energy depletion. In these circumstances, support from home and at work plays a significant role as a coping strategy.
This study examines the impacts of women’s social, political, and psychological empowerment on their participation in civil societies and further its impacts on their entrepreneurial resilience. This study employed the quantitative approach, and data were collected through surveys, which were later analyzed with Smart PLS 4. This study’s findings revealed mixed results. The impacts of psychological and social empowerment on women’s participation in civil societies and their entrepreneurial resilience were significant. The impacts of political empowerment on women’s participation in civil societies and their entrepreneurial resilience were insignificant. The occurrence of disasters is common in tourist destinations, and several studies have investigated it. However, the study on the ripple impacts of disasters on women has not been thoroughly investigated, specifically in the Asian context.
This paper outlines how natural disasters affect destination management strategies and revisits tourist intentions. The existing paper focuses on Thailand's Andaman coast and analyzes how destination communication, familiarity, and positioning affect destination credibility and tourists' perceptions. Data collected from 576 international tourists indicated that destination credibility partially mediates the relationships between destination communications, familiarity, positioning, and revisit intentions. Additionally, destination social responsibility strengthened the promising influence of destination credibility on tourists' revisit intentions to disaster-hit destinations. This paper contributes to the growing literature on tourism disaster management by emphasising the importance of branding strategies and stakeholder responsibility in building destination resilience. Findings provide robust evidence of the interrelations between destination credibility, communication strategies, and social responsibility in post-disaster tourism recovery.
PurposeUnderpinned by sensation-seeking theory (SST) and regulatory focus theory (RFT), this paper highlights the crucial role of adventurousness in self-protective behavior and future travel avoidance. Furthermore, this paper investigates safety-seeking tendency as a moderator and travel anxiety post-COVID-19 as a mediator.Design/methodology/approachData were gathered from 574 potential visitors to St. Catherine post-COVID-19 and analyzed using Smart-PLS approach.FindingsAdventurousness negatively and significantly affected travel anxiety, while the latter negatively influenced self-protective behavior and positively influenced future travel avoidance. Besides, the findings proved that travel anxiety partially mediated the adventurousness linkage with self-protective behavior and future travel avoidance. Moreover, safety-seeking tendencies dampened travel anxiety's connection with self-protective behavior and future travel avoidance.Practical implicationsThis paper provides valuable insights into travel research in theory and practice to revive tourist attractions post-COVID-19 in developing countries via an adventure tourism pattern. The study helps figure out how to deal with the pandemic and restore the monument of heavenly religions, St. Catherine—sacred mountain peaks, mosques, churches and many monasteries—in addition to its charming and picturesque nature.Originality/valueThe current paper examines a traveler's adventurous nature and post-COVID-19 behavior when visiting St. Catherine and their behaviors related to future avoidance and self-protection. This paper adds the first investigation of travel anxiety and safety-seeking through the lens of SST and RFT theories in the Egyptian tourism context.

Purpose Given the prevalence of protecting geoheritage tourism sites, Ladakh has enormous potential. However, Ladakh’s potential and developments in its growth as a geotourism destination have received scant consideration. As such, this paper aims to explore Ladakh’s key drivers as a potential geotourism destination through cognitive dissonance and protection motivation theories. Design/methodology/approach This paper conducted in-depth interviews with 86 geoscientists and tourism professionals to assess Ladakh’s potential as a geotourism destination. This paper used a qualitative approach to congregate four constructs based on the image difference of the consensus map. Findings Because of the interviewees’ heterogeneity and uniqueness, meaningful constructs in the consensus were included for each figure and cloud words. This paper concluded that four drivers are the main forces behind geotourism development. Originality/value This paper explores the drivers – geotourism services, legislative requirements, experiential geotourism and SPARC (scientific, preservation, aesthetic, recreational, cultural) values – affecting geotourism in Ladakh. It is feasible to lessen the negative effects of overtourism and make sure that Ladakh’s distinctive nature is preserved for future generations by implementing sustainable tourism practices.
Tourism companies can attain sustainable development goals by comprehending the geotourism destination development phenomenon. Although extensive literature has dealt with the geotourism concept, limited studies have focused on geotourism destination development. This paper developed the quantitative measurement geotourism destination development characteristics scale, the first scale to concentrate on sustainable tourism. In this paper, a total of 476 geologists and geotourism experts from various nations participated. They were found using Amazon Mechanical Turk, and their responses were analyzed using confirmatory composite analysis. Findings refer to a four-dimensional scale consisting of geotourism services, legislative requirements, experiential geotourism, and scientific, preservation, aesthetic, and recreational values. The dimensional structure and scale validity were determined to be supported by geotourism development characteristics. Additionally, this paper discovered that these characteristics have significant effects on geotourism destination development. Findings provide tourist businesses with the chance to employ this new scale to identify their destinations’ geological features.
Purpose Existing gender inequality across all sectors has weakened women’s resilience to risk management. The chaos heightens if they are not only breadwinners of their family but roaring the entrepreneurial world. Disasters and crises hit entrepreneurs equally but post-disaster damages following ripple effects hit hardest to women ruling the one-third portion of the entrepreneurial world. Surprisingly, the post-disaster entrepreneurial challenges of women are overlooked, and the study aims to fill the gap by explaining the right way of empowering women through entrepreneurial initiatives. Design/methodology/approach The research is based on data collected from 372 women entrepreneurs in the tourism industry of the Andaman Sea coastal area in Thailand by following the cluster sampling technique. The women entrepreneurs of Thailand were chosen as target respondents because women’s participation is more than 40% in entrepreneurial businesses. Findings The findings revealed that entrepreneurial marketing, entrepreneurial opportunity and entrepreneurial tenacity have a significant influence on entrepreneurial initiatives and the entrepreneurial mindset successfully mediates between dependent variables and entrepreneurial initiatives. Practical implications This study has important insights for policymakers, women entrepreneurs, institutions and the tourism industry. However, it focuses solely on women entrepreneurs participating in the tourism industry of Thailand. Therefore, future studies are invited to incorporate male entrepreneurs and be conducted in other developed and Asian countries. Originality/value This study contributes to the entrepreneurial field by proposing entrepreneurial factors that can help women entrepreneurs restart their businesses, mitigating or minimizing natural disaster effects and proposing pioneering suggestions to uplift the tourism entrepreneurial sector.

Previous studies have explored the effects of each dark triad trait (narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism) on supervisor incivility, job satisfaction, and productivity. However, little is known about how dark triad traits affect depersonalization and job involvement via workplace incivility in the hospitality sector through the conservation of resources theory lens. Involving 603 hotel employees in Greater Cairo using a time-lag approach, the partial least squares (PLS) findings indicate that dark triad traits positively and significantly predict workplace incivility. Workplace incivility negatively and positively affects job involvement and employee depersonalization. Workplace incivility partially mediates the indirect linkages of dark triad traits with job involvement and employee depersonalization. This study presents significant theoretical and managerial implications for academics and practitioners in the hotel industry.
Hotel booking websites to collect information about hospitality products/services are becoming more popular in the hotel industry. As a result, the importance of these websites for tourism firms marketing their services and products through electronic word of mouth (eWOM) on these hotel booking websites continues to grow. Despite its importance, there has been little research on how guests interact with information to increase eWOM. This paper creates a new scale for assessing guest interaction with Meituan.com information to fill this void. To this end, a three-step mixed-methods approach using open-ended surveys and published relevant research is used. Data were gathered from 440 hotel guests in Taiwan, China, and Hong Kong. Using SmartPLS 4, confirmatory factor analysis revealed 33 final items for the new scale. This paper significantly contributes to potential guest behavior by creating and confirming this new scale in the hospitality context.
PurposeThis study investigates the brand selfies that have the capability to help brands thrive through crises. The brand selfies spark a self-inferential process that makes customers feel connected to the brand and makes them biased toward a specific brand during an uncertain situation.Design/methodology/approachA total of 166 questionnaires were analyzed through structural equation modelling (Smart PLS) and a niche group of young millennials from Thailand was selected based on their luxury items usage, frequency of visits to leisure spas and hotels, expensive car showrooms, branded jewelry stores and luxury watch shops.FindingsThe study highlights the emergence of brand selfies during the crisis and the priority given by customers as compared to brand-generated content or promotional campaigns. The results indicated a positive influence of brand selfies on brand preferences directly and through the mediation of brand signature.Research limitations/implicationsIt is fascinating for brands that customers voluntarily include their products in their carefully crafted and staged selfies that deliver their image and massages as social signifiers during a chaotic situation.Originality/valueThe research classifies the impacts of brand selfies in the luxury, leisure and tourism market of Thailand and its assistance in thriving through crises. The study is one of the rare studies that present brand selfies as a hassle-free promotional tool for brand signature and a game-changing strategy to deal with crises.
Instructional practices can be strengthened when the education system allows teachers to upgrade themselves professionally, and leadership plays a key role in upgrading their professional competencies. In this regard, the current study aims to explore the role of identified leadership practices in enhancing the professional development of primary school teachers. At the same time, the moderation role of training between the association of identified leadership practices and teachers' professional development was also examined. The study followed a descriptive survey research design headed by questionnaires to collect the data, which was analysed through the different statistical tests. The findings of the study provide evidence that leadership practices contribute significantly in developing teachers' professional competencies by specifying the benefits of different identified leadership roles. Meanwhile, the study implied explicitly that training magnifies the positive effect of identified leadership practices on the professional development of teachers. The findings further suggest that school heads should perform their leadership tasks regularly and pay more focus to the training of teachers to upgrade their professional skills.
Drawing from social schema theory (SST), the present study examines the relationship between learning organisations (LOs) and affective commitment to change (ACTC), with mediating role of change self-efficacy and moderating role of adaptive leadership (AL). Using simple random sampling, the present study's data was collected in two phases from 331 full-time employees working in the manufacturing sector (pharmaceutical and automobile) organisations. Collected data were analysed using process-macro to test the proposed hypotheses of this study. The results of this study demonstrated that LOs positively predictor ACTC, and this relationship was fully mediated by change self-efficacy. Furthermore, AL moderates the LOs - ACTC the relationship, LOs - change self-efficacy relationship, and change self-efficacy-ACTC the relationship. The present study is an attractive model for the successful implementation of organisational change using the organisational environment and efficacy of the employees. Further, this study highlights the importance of AL for employees' self-efficacy towards and for enhancing their commitment to organisational change. This research adopted a novel approach of AL for the successful implementation of change policies, as the adaptability of the policies and procedures is the core feature of organisational change.
