Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the interplay between digital integration (DI), knowledge management practices (KMPs) and organizational agility (OA) in enhancing health-care delivery performance (HDP) within pharmaceutical supply chains. This study specifically examines how these mechanisms contribute to improved service quality, patient trust and organizational reputation in resource-constrained health-care contexts.Design/methodology/approach A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Jordan's pharmaceutical sector. Data were collected from 312 professionals operating across pharmaceutical supply chain organizations using validated measurement scales. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was used to test both direct and mediated relationships linking DI, KMP and OA to HDP.Findings The results of this study indicate that DI significantly enhances HDP, with its strongest effects occurring indirectly through KMPs and OA. Knowledge routines strengthen OA, which in turn drives service reliability, delivery continuity and patient-focused responsiveness. The sequential mediation pathway (DI -> KMP -> OA -> HDP) confirms that digital technologies create value only when embedded within knowledge-driven and adaptive organizational processes.Originality/value This study empirically validates a hybrid Knowledge-Based View-Dynamic Capabilities Theory (KBV-DCT) framework in an emerging pharmaceutical market. This study contributes novel insights by demonstrating how DI translates into superior health-care service quality, marketing advantage and societal value. The findings of this study offer actionable implications for managers and policymakers by highlighting the importance of aligning digital investments with knowledge management and agility-building strategies to strengthen patient trust and HDP.
This study examines the mediating role of digital transformation in the relationship between hygiene and motivator factors and job satisfaction among academic faculty in higher education. Grounded in Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory and further informed by Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Vroom’s Expectancy Theory, and the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) Model, the study offers a comprehensive theoretical framework. A quantitative design employing stratified random sampling was used to collect data from 456 faculty members at the University of Jordan, and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied to test the hypothesized relationships. The findings reveal that motivator factors (e.g., autonomy, recognition, professional growth) have a stronger impact on job satisfaction than hygiene factors (e.g., salary, workload, leadership support). Digital transformation mediates these relationships by amplifying motivators and reducing dissatisfaction through automation, flexibility, transparency, and increased professional autonomy. Demographic variables (age, gender, academic rank) moderate these dynamics: younger faculty value growth and autonomy; older faculty prioritize stability and workload balance; male faculty emphasize extrinsic rewards, while female faculty seek a balance of intrinsic and extrinsic motivators. By explicitly aligning digital transformation with Herzberg’s framework, this study offers theoretical clarity and practical recommendations, including the use of digital platforms to enhance faculty engagement, reduce administrative stress, and enable targeted leadership strategies that meet diverse faculty needs.
Growing environmental pressures and stricter sustainability requirements are prompting manufacturing firms—particularly those in resource-intensive sectors such as food production—to adopt Circular Economy (CE) practices. However, the extent to which CE practices are associated with improved sustainability outcomes remains poorly understood, especially in emerging economies. This study examines the association between CE practices and Sustainability Performance (SP) in Jordan’s food manufacturing sector and explores whether Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) helps explain this relationship. Using survey data from 323 firms and applying Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), the findings indicate that CE practices are positively associated with SP and that SSCM partially explains this association. These results contribute to practice-based and supply-chain sustainability theories by offering empirical evidence of how CE routines and SSCM practices jointly relate to sustainability outcomes. For practitioners, the study highlights the importance of integrating CE initiatives with sustainable supply chain strategies to strengthen environmental, social, and economic performance. Managers in the food manufacturing sector can use these insights to enhance supply chain processes, respond to stakeholder expectations, and support long-term sustainability efforts.
PurposeThis study examines the impact of digital safety management systems (DSMS) and predictive risk governance (PRG) on enhancing sustainability in the aviation sector, with a focus on the emerging market context of Jordan. It examines how digitalized safety policy, assurance and promotions supported by artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, and predictive modeling contribute to the economic, environmental and social dimensions of sustainability. The research further explores how predictive risk intelligence transforms traditional safety management systems (SMS) into proactive, integrated and sustainability-oriented frameworks.Design/methodology/approachA mixed-methods design was adopted, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data were collected from 215 managers and safety professionals across 11 aviation organizations in Jordan. Using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4, the study analyzed the relationships among DSMS components, PRG, and sustainability outcomes, complemented by qualitative interviews and document reviews to validate contextual insights and digital transformation practices.FindingsResults demonstrate that DSMS implementation significantly enhances sustainability through improved operational efficiency, environmental responsibility and safety culture. Each DSMS component - digital safety policy, digital safety assurance and digital safety promotions showed a strong positive influence on sustainability. Furthermore, PRG exhibited a significant mediating effect, amplifying the predictive power of DSMS on sustainability. The model explained 81.2% of the variance in sustainability (R2 = 0.812), confirming the substantial role of digital transformation and predictive analytics in achieving sustainable aviation outcomes.Originality/valueThis research provides updated empirical evidence on the integration of digital safety intelligence and sustainability governance within the aviation industry, directly addressing recent calls for data-driven safety and environmental accountability. It extends existing SMS theory by embedding digital and predictive capabilities as strategic resources within the resource-based view, dynamic capabilities and systems theory frameworks. The study also aligns with International Civil Aviation Organization's Safety Management Manual (5th Ed., 2023) and Federal Aviation Administration Advisory Circular 120-92C (2024), offering practical guidance for regulators and industry leaders transitioning toward predictive, artificial intelligence-enabled and sustainability-driven aviation safety systems.
Purpose The research investigates the role of big data analytics (BDA) in enhancing sustainability reporting quality and improving corporate financial performance in Jordan's manufacturing sector. By integrating BDA into environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting frameworks, the study highlights how digital technologies strengthen corporate accountability, improve data transparency, and support compliance with global sustainability standards. Design/methodology/approach This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining survey data from 224 top managers in Jordanian manufacturing firms with partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The analysis explores the relationships between BDA capabilities, sustainability reporting quality (SRQ) and corporate financial performance (CFP). Findings The results confirm that BDA significantly improves SRQ by increasing data accuracy, transparency and timeliness, thereby positively influencing CFP. Integrating BDA into ESG reporting optimizes sustainability disclosures, reduces greenwashing risks, fosters investor confidence and strengthens regulatory compliance. SRQ also plays a mediating role, amplifying the impact of BDA on financial performance. Overall, the study underscores the transformative potential of BDA in closing the credibility gap in sustainability reporting and aligning corporate disclosures with international ESG frameworks. Originality/value This research provides empirical evidence on the role of BDA in transforming sustainability reporting and corporate performance in a developing economy. It demonstrates how data-driven ESG practices bridge information asymmetries, enhance regulatory alignment and drive sustainability strategies in Jordan's manufacturing sector.
PurposeThis study investigates the impact of AI-driven social media recruitment (AI-SMR) on talent acquisition effectiveness (TAE), employee engagement (EE) and bank performance (BP) in the Jordanian banking sector. It examines how AI-powered recruitment tools enhance hiring efficiency, mitigate biases and bolster employer branding, while also assessing the mediating roles of TAE and EE.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative approach was applied using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze survey data from 283 HR professionals, recruiters and employees in commercial and investment banks. Stratified random sampling and Cochran's formula determined the sample size. Reliability, validity and common method bias checks confirmed robustness.FindingsResults indicate that AI-SMR is positively associated with enhanced TAE, faster hiring and improved candidate-job matching. EE mediates the AI-SMR-BP link, highlighting how AI-supported hiring fosters satisfaction, alignment and retention. For example, AI-SMR explained 42% of the variance in TAE (R2 = 0.42).Practical implicationsHR professionals should adopt AI-driven hiring tools, predictive analytics and chatbots to optimize recruitment and engagement while implementing governance mechanisms to ensure fairness, transparency and compliance.Originality/valueThis study contributes a dual-mediation model connecting AI recruitment, employee engagement and bank performance, offering context-specific insights for modernizing HRM in an emerging economy.
Purpose This study aims to examine how social media platform use is associated with sustainability engagement among university students by investigating the sequential mediating roles of sustainability awareness and sustainability attitudes. Grounded in social cognitive theory (SCT) and the knowledge–attitude–practices (KAP) framework, the study aims to explain how digitally mediated sustainability communication is linked to sustainable consumption and pro-environmental behaviour within higher education. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative research design was used using survey data collected from undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in Jordanian public universities. A total of 867 valid responses were obtained using a non-probability convenience sampling approach with voluntary participation. Measurement items were adapted from established scales and assessed using a five-point Likert scale. Data were analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS to evaluate the measurement model and test the proposed sequential mediation model. Findings The results indicate that use of social media platforms is positively associated with sustainability awareness (ß = 0.590, p < 0.001), which in turn is positively associated with sustainability attitudes (ß = 0.605, p < 0.001). Sustainability attitudes significantly predict sustainability engagement (ß = 0.630, p < 0.001). Further, a significant sequential mediation effect was observed (indirect ß = 0.225, p < 0.001), demonstrating that sustainability awareness and sustainability attitudes jointly explain how social media platforms translate into students’ sustainability engagement. Originality/value This study contributes to the sustainability literature in higher education by empirically validating a process-orientated, sequential pathway linking sustainability engagement to social media use. By integrating SCT with the KAP framework, the study advances understanding of how digital environments shape sustainability engagement beyond direct-effect models. The findings provide practical insights for universities and policymakers on how to strategically design digital sustainability communication to support student engagement, particularly in resource-constrained higher education contexts.
PURPOSE:The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of green compliance (GC) on risk management performance (RMP) within the healthcare sector in Jordan, a developing country. Additionally, the mediating role of organizational environmental culture (OEC) in the relationship between GC and RMP is examined. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH:A quantitative, cross-sectional research design was employed. Data were collected from 387 valid responses obtained from healthcare professionals across 121 hospitals in Jordan. Drawing on the resource-based view (RBV) and Institutional Theory, the proposed model was tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). FINDINGS:The results indicate that GC has a positive and significant effect on both OEC and RMP. In addition, OEC significantly mediates the relationship between GC and RMP, confirming both direct and indirect pathways. The findings suggest that compliance practices alone are insufficient unless supported by a strong organizational culture that enables their effective implementation. ORIGINALITY/VALUE:This study contributes to the literature in three key ways. First, it conceptualizes Organizational Environmental Culture as a mediating mechanism linking green compliance to risk management performance. Second, it integrates institutional theory and the resource-based view to explain how external pressures and internal capabilities jointly influence sustainability outcomes. Third, it provides empirical evidence from the healthcare sector in a developing country, extending environmental management research beyond traditional industrial contexts.
Artificial intelligence is creating new forms of digital work and entrepreneurship in economies facing persistent youth unemployment. This study examines the associations among AI utilization, participation in independent digital work and social entrepreneurship, and capability-related achievements among youth in Jordan. Drawing on the Capability Approach and institutional theory, the study conceptualizes AI as a socio-technical resource, participation as a conversion pathway, technological readiness as a personal conversion factor, and structural barriers and institutional enablers as contextual conditions. An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design combined survey data from 348 digitally engaged youth with 27 semi-structured interviews involving 21 youth participants and six ecosystem stakeholders. Partial least squares structural equation modeling showed that AI utilization was positively associated with participation in both pathways. Independent digital work and social entrepreneurship were positively associated with income diversification, market-relevant skills, professional networks, access to opportunities, and perceived economic security. The two specific indirect associations from AI utilization through the participation pathways were statistically supported. Technological readiness positively moderated both participation-achievement relationships, while structural barriers and institutional enablers had direct negative and positive associations with capability-related achievements, respectively. The qualitative findings explained these patterns by identifying language difficulties, regulatory ambiguity, financial exclusion, restricted payment systems, geographic inequality, gender-related mobility constraints, and uneven ecosystem access. The study contributes a conditional capability-conversion model that distinguishes achieved functionings from broader capabilities and shows that AI-enabled participation is associated with uneven outcomes rather than automatic empowerment.
This study examines how Circular Economy (CE) practices influence Sustainability Performance (SP) in the textile and apparel industry, through a sequential transformation process involving Digital Transformation (DT) and Green Innovation (GI). Specifically, the study aims to explain how internal capability-building mechanisms translate CE practices into measurable sustainability outcomes in an emerging-economy context. By grounding the analysis in the Resource-Based View (RBV), Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT), and Stakeholder Theory (ST), this study provides a robust theoretical framework that links firm-level capabilities to sustainable outcomes in an underexplored export-oriented, resource-constrained context. This study employed a full-population survey of all 550 registered textile and apparel firms operating within Jordan’s Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZs)—a key hub for the country’s export-oriented fashion sector, which faces intense international compliance pressures and institutional constraints. A total of 373 valid responses were collected. To mitigate single-informant bias and enhance data accuracy, the survey employed a functionally disaggregated design, in which different senior managers—such as CEOs, IT directors, and sustainability officers—responded to sections tailored to circular economy practices, digital transformation, green innovation, and sustainability performance. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), supplemented with bootstrapped mediation testing to examine both direct and sequential relationships among variables. The results validate a sequential mediation model: CE practices enhance SP indirectly through DT and GI. CE influences the adoption of digital capabilities, which, in turn, enable innovation in sustainable practices. These findings extend the sustainability literature by demonstrating a capability-based sequential pathway through which circular strategies are operationalized to yield performance gains in emerging-economy manufacturing sectors. This layered pathway supports the strategic role of dynamic capabilities and aligns with current discourses on circularity and sustainability.
The aviation industry faces ongoing operational risks, regulatory challenges, and sustainability pressures, necessitating the adoption of Safety Management Systems (SMS) as a structured framework for enhancing safety performance and long-term resilience. While SMS has been widely implemented, its effectiveness in driving sustainability outcomes remains underexplored, particularly in emerging aviation markets. This study examines the role of SMS components—safety policy, safety assurance, and safety promotion—in fostering sustainability while emphasizing risk management as an integral part of SMS. Grounded in the Resource-Based View (RBV), Systems Theory, Stakeholder Theory, Institutional Theory, and Contingency Theory, this study examines the interconnected role of SMS and risk management in promoting economic, environmental, and social sustainability in Jordan’s aviation industry. A structured survey was conducted with 142 aviation professionals across 11 Jordanian aviation companies, and the data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to validate causal relationships. The findings confirm that the implementation of SMS significantly enhances sustainability, particularly in terms of operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder trust. While risk management is vital in strengthening safety governance, its direct impact on sustainability appears to be context-dependent, reinforcing the need for a more integrated approach where risk management is fully embedded within Safety Management Systems (SMS). These insights contribute to the broader aviation safety and policy literature by providing a refined conceptualization of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and risk management within the framework of sustainability. The study provides actionable recommendations for aviation regulators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to enhance Safety Management Systems (SMS) frameworks and risk governance strategies, ultimately fostering a safer, more resilient, and sustainable aviation industry.
Purpose This research investigates how practices from the circular economy (CE) and social responsibility (SR) can improve the performance of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Jordan, with a particular focus on how community involvement can serve as a bridge between the two. This paper aims to provide insights into how integrating CE and SR strategies can improve operational efficiency, stakeholder satisfaction and the overall societal impact of HEIs, contributing to sustainable development in Jordan’s higher education sector. Design/methodology/approach This study used a quantitative methodology to examine the impact of CE and SR practices on the institutional performance of HEIs in Jordan. Data was collected through a structured survey targeting 1,000 faculty, administrators and leaders, resulting in 400 valid responses (40% response rate) via stratified random sampling. The survey used validated scales from prior research, along with a five-point Likert scale. Data analysis involved confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling using SmartPLS 4 to explore relationships with community engagement as a mediator. Bootstrapping and variance inflation factor ensured validity, confirming the robustness of the findings. Findings The findings reveal that both CE and SR practices have a positive impact on the institutional performance of Jordanian universities, with community engagement acting as a critical mediator. The synergistic implementation of CE and SR practices significantly enhances operational efficiency, stakeholder satisfaction and sustainability outcomes. This study also highlights the importance of sustainability in higher education. It shows that institutions that combine the two approaches perform better in terms of efficiency and reputation than those that use only one. Originality/value The originality of this study lies in its focus on the combined effects of CE and SR practices in the context of higher education in Jordan, a developing country. This study contributes to literature by examining the mediating role of community engagement, providing a comprehensive model for enhancing institutional performance through sustainable practices. This research provides valuable insights for policymakers and educators seeking to implement effective sustainability strategies in HEIs.

Grounded in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the Trust-Based Decision-Making Model, and the Personalization- Privacy Paradox, we studied how AI-powered recruitment tools-such as chatbots, predictive analytics, and personalized content-impact student engagement and enrollment intentions. Based on the responses from 350 prospective international students, the findings indicate that AI-driven marketing enhances student recruitment by improving accessibility, engagement, and transparency. However, trust in AI remains critical, as concerns about data privacy and algorithmic bias significantly influence students' willingness to apply by making recruitment more efficient and tailored to students' preferences; however, it also raises ethical concerns regarding privacy and data protection.
This study investigates the impact of digital transformation (DT) initiatives on the reputation of public higher education institutions (HEIs) in Jordan, focusing on the mediating roles of operational efficiency and educational quality. Using quantitative data collected from 397 academic and administrative staff across Jordanian HEIs, the study employs Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to test the proposed relationships. The findings reveal that DT initiatives have a significant positive effect on corporate image (β = .198, p = .001), operational efficiency (β = .673, p < .001), and educational quality (β = .642, p < .001). Moreover, operational efficiency and educational quality partially mediate the relationship between DT and corporate image, with mediation effects of β = .221 and .155, respectively. These results suggest that while DT directly enhances institutional reputation, its impact is amplified when institutions improve internal processes and educational outcomes. Practical implications include the need for universities to invest in robust digital infrastructure, provide continuous faculty training in digital pedagogy, and for policymakers to support DT through national standards and funding. This research contributes to understanding how digital transformation drives reputation in resource-constrained educational environments.

Empirical analysis shows that marketing mix strategies significantly impact students' choices and elucidates the mediating role of social media strategies. Interactions on these platforms, such as reviews, ratings, and recommendations, are pivotal in forming perceptions and guiding choices, highlighting educational marketers' need to manage social media content.
This study examines the crucial role of electronic word-of-mouth (EWOM) in mediating the impact of marketing mix strategies on international students’ study destination decisions. The theoretical framework proposed in this research integrates consumer behavior theories to enhance our understanding of the relationship between marketing mix strategies and international students’ enrollment choices. Building upon previous research that underscores the importance of marketing mix strategies in shaping consumer choices, this study focuses specifically on the context of international students deciding to study in Jordan. To achieve its objectives, a questionnaire was administered to a sample of 2000 international students who recently enrolled in both public and private universities in Jordan, with a response rate of 61%. Through rigorous empirical analysis, this study provides compelling evidence that the quality of the product/program, price, place, and promotion significantly influence the decision-making process of international students. Moreover, the study reveals that EWOM plays a critical mediating role in this relationship, underscoring the significance of online reviews, ratings, and recommendations in shaping consumer perceptions and choices. These findings underscore the need for marketers to proactively monitor and manage online reviews and harness the power of EWOM as a potent marketing tool to positively impact consumer decision-making.
This research explores the impact of blockchain technology on the quality of Accounting Information Systems (AIS) and subsequent business performance in Jordan's commercial banking sector. By surveying 388 participants from various banks, the study applies a quantitative methodology to assess how blockchain usage influences AIS quality and bank performance. Findings indicate a robust positive effect of Blockchain on AIS quality, significantly enhancing business performance. This study confirms the transformative potential of Blockchain in emerging markets and illuminates the pivotal role of AIS quality as a mediator in this relationship. These insights are critical for policymakers, financial institutions, and technology strategists, emphasizing the strategic importance of blockchain technology in enhancing operational efficiency and competitiveness in the banking industry of developing economies.
This research examines the effects of technostress on educators' productivity within Jordan's higher education sector, highlighting gender differences. Technostress, characterized by techno-overload, techno-invasion, techno-complexity, techno-insecurity, and techno-uncertainty, adversely affects productivity. The study gathered data from 500 educators through a structured online survey, achieving a 73% response rate. Analysis revealed that technostress generally decreases productivity, with a more pronounced negative impact on male educators than females. The findings underscore the necessity for targeted interventions to mitigate technostress, particularly among male educators. Strategies recommended include training programs, policy adjustments, and organizational support to enhance the digital teaching environment. This study contributes to the understanding of technostress in Jordanian educational settings. It offers practical recommendations for enhancing e-learning practices and improving the overall educational experience and productivity in Jordan's higher education sector.
The present study examines the faculty staff’s socio-demographic factors (i.e., gender, academic ranking, and experience) as moderating variables on the relationship between the four interrelated factors (organizational, individual, technological, and client engagement) and their productivity (performance) during the Covid‐19 pandemic. A conceptual framework was developed by integrating several relevant studies in the field of Work from Home (WFH) productivity. To end this, we involved (n=388) academic staff working from home during the Covid-19 crisis to test the hypotheses in the higher education context. The findings showed that the academics’ WFH productivity was significantly associated with the four interrelated factors (organizational, individual, technological, and client-related factors) either collectively or individually, and the most important one was the individual-related factors. The moderation analysis reveals that the effect of the socio-demographic characteristics (gender, academic ranking, and experience) on WFH productivity was varied. Surprisingly, the study findings provided evidence for the first time that the client’s engagement (student) factor, which has not been studied before, was found as one of the main determinant factors of WFH productivity during the Covid-19 crisis.
