Pleuropulmonary tuberculosis is a contagious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Chest X-rays are an essential tool for diagnostic evaluation. The objective of this study was to assess the role of chest X-rays in the diagnosis of pleuropulmonary tuberculosis in the radiology department of the referral health center in Bamakos 6th district.This was a cross-sectional study conducted from January 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025. The study included all patients admitted for chest X-rays who presented radiographic findings suggestive of tuberculosis and whose diagnosis was confirmed by laboratory testing. Data were analyzed using SPSS software. Patient confidentiality and anonymity were ensured. Patient participation was voluntary, and consent was obtained from the parents or guardians of patients under 18 years of age.In total, we identified 136 subjects who met the inclusion criteria out of 2,861 chest X-rays performed in the department, representing a prevalence of 4.75%. The 25-34 age group accounted for 31.6%. Males were predominant in 75% of cases. Signs of bacillary infiltration were noted in 98.5%. The main radiological abnormalities observed were alveolar opacity in 80.1%, followed by interstitial opacity (69.1%) and cavities/tuberculomas in 25.7% of cases.
Objectives : Describe the CT profile of petrous bone lesions. Materials and Methods : This prospective study, conducted from January 2024 to January 2025, included 116 patients who underwent temporal bone computed tomography (CT) for the evaluation of hearing loss or otologic abnormalities. Examinations were performed using a Revolution ACT(Advanced Computed Tomography) 16 helical scanner following a standardized protocol, with fine axial and coronal acquisitions without contrast injection, except in cases with suspected inflammatory, infectious, or tumoral pathology. Results :The study population had a mean age of 29 ± 5 years (range 1–72 years) with a slight female predominance (sex ratio = 0.92). Hearing loss was bilateral in 51.8 % of cases and unilateral in 48.2 %, distributed between 53.4 % of hypoacusis and 46.6 % of deafness. Tinnitus was the most common associated symptom (33.6 %). CT scans were normal in 58.62 % of cases and abnormal in 41.38 %. Detected lesions involved were bilateral in (41.38%) and unilateral in (58.62%). the middle ear (47.69 %), inner ear (27.69 %), and external ear (24.62 %). The main etiologies included otitis (47.91 %), malformations (20.83 %), otospongiosis (14.58 %), mastoiditis (8.33 %), trauma (6.25 %), and tumors (2.1 %). Acute otitis, the most frequent entity (65.22 %), was often associated with ossicular lysis (12 %). Conclusion : CT imaging proved particularly efficient in analyzing bony morphology, determining the extent of lesions, and guiding therapeutic decision-making.
Cirrhosis is a serious, progressive disease and constitutes a public health problem. The objective of this study was to examine the role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of cirrhosis at the Hospital of Mali. This was a prospective cross-sectional study conducted from February 2024 to February 2025. The study included all patients admitted to the department for abdominal ultrasound as part of the diagnosis of liver cirrhosis. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21.0. Patient participation was voluntary. Patient confidentiality and anonymity were guaranteed. We identified 121 cases of cirrhosis diagnosed among 3,142 abdominal ultrasounds performed, representing a prevalence of 3.85%. Male patients accounted for 70% of cases. The mean age was 51.34 ± 13.86 years. The predominant clinical symptom was abdominal pain in 89.3% of cases. Hepatomegaly with a sharp lower border was recorded in 80.88% of cases. On ultrasound, hepatomegaly was present in 55% of patients. The echogenicity of the liver was heterogeneous in 96.7% of cases. The liver margins were irregular in 73% of cases. Hepatic dysmorphism was present in 74% of cases. Nodules were present in 60% of patients, and portal vein dilation in 58.7% of patients. Cirrhosis remains a common and serious condition. Ultrasound is an essential tool for screening and diagnosis.
Aim: The aim of this study is to report the computed tomography characteristics of the degeneration of Crohn's disease. Patient: We report the observation of an 18-year-old girl admitted to the internal medicine department of the CHU Point G for diffuse abdominal pain predominantly in the right iliac fossa with diarrhea that has progressed since childhood but poorly followed. In whom the abdominal CT scan and abdominopelvic ultrasound performed revealed irregular vascular thickening of the wall of the terminal ileum and the cecum. At the end of these examinations, the diagnostic hypothesis of atypical Crohn's disease was adopted. Histology of the transverse colon specimen showed fragments of mucosa with an edematous chorion and an inflammatory infiltrate of omental and gigantocellular granuloma. On the other hand, that of the part of the ileocecal region showed a persistence of mucosecretion and the presence of columnar cells with an oval nucleus not exceeding 3/4 of the height of the epithelium and a little marked polymorphism in connection with neoplasia. certain low grade intraepithelial colic. This examination confirmed the diagnosis of carcinomatous degeneration of ileo-caeco-colic Crohn's disease. The clinical course at 6 months was favorable. However, the irregular thickening of the wall of the terminal ileum and the cecum is similar to the CT scan. Conclusion: Degeneration of Crohn's disease is rare. Imaging is involved in all phases of Crohn's disease. She makes the initial diagnosis, she specifies the topographical assessment of the lesions, she guides the treatment, she draws up the extension assessment during an evolutionary outbreak and degeneration.
Objective: to describe epidemiological and ultrasound profile of traumatic lesions of the abdomen in Mopti’s hospital. Methodology: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study from January 1 to April 30, 2019, i.e. 4 months at Mopti hospital. The study involved all patients with abdominal trauma who received an abdominal ultrasound during the study period. The variables analyzed were age, sex, etiology of trauma, and ultrasound results. Data recording and analysis were done with SPSS version 20 and Excel 2016 software. Results: out of 50 patients, the 15-29 age group predominated with 42%. The male gender accounted for 80% of cases. Firearms accounted for 56% of etiologies. Perforation of a hollow digestive viscus was the frequent lesion with 24%. The most frequent evocative sonographic semiological appearance was peritoneal effusion with images emitting comet-tail artifacts, i.e. 20%. Conclusion: the young population, especially the male sex, dominated the epidemiological profile. Firearms were the most incriminated etiology in the lesions observed, in particular digestive perforations. Ultrasound remains a key means in the diagnostic strategy of traumatic RÉSUMÉ Objectif : décrire le profil épidémiologique et échographique des lésions traumatiques abdominales à l’hôpital de Mopti. Méthodologie : Il s’agissait d’une étude descriptive transversale allant du 1er janvier au 30 avril 2019 soit 4 mois à l’hôpital de Mopti. L’étude a concerné tous les patients avec un traumatisme abdominal ayant bénéficié une échographie abdominale pendant la période d’étude. Les variables analysées étaient l’âge, le sexe, l’étiologie du trauma et les résultats échographiques. L’enregistrement et l’analyse des données ont été faits avec les logiciels SPSS version 20 et Excel 2016. Résultats : sur un total de 50 patients, la tranche d’âge de 15-29 ans a prédominé avec 42%. Le sexe masculin représentait 80% des cas. Les armes à feu représentaient 56% des étiologies. La perforation digestive était la lésion fréquente avec 24%. L’aspect échographique sémiologique évocateur le plus fréquent était l’épanchement péritonéal trouble avec des artefacts en queue de comète soit 20%. Conclusion : Le profil épidémiologique était dominé par la population jeune à prédominance masculine. Les armes à feu étaient l’étiologie la plus incriminée dans les lésions observées notamment les perforations digestives. L’échographie demeure un moyen clé dans la stratégie diagnostique des lésions traumatiques abdominales dans notre contexte.
Introduction:Gestational trophoblastic tumors (GTT) are heterogeneous tumors characterized by trophoblast involvement with an abnormal increase in human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). The aim of this study was to describe in our context, the clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic characteristics and poor prognostic factors influencing the survival of these tumors. Patients and methods:This was a descriptive study of 90 patients followed for GTT at the Point G University Hospital between August 2007 and May 2020. Clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic data were collected retrospectively from the medical records of these patients and analyzed by SPSS version 21 software. Results:The mean age of the patients was 31 years ± 10.08 (15-54 years) with a peak frequency between 20-40 years. The clinical picture was frequently dominated by the following symptoms: metrorrhagia (97.8%), anemia (86.7%) and poor Performans Status (PPS) (42.2%). The mean βHCG level was 589,394.15 U/l and choriocarcinoma was the most common histological type -64.9%-. The disease was metastatic in 46.7% with a FIGO 2000 (Fédération Internationale de Gynécologie-Obstétrique) prognostic score of high risk in 57.8%. Regardless of this score, 92.7% underwent polychemotherapy. Only 41.1% of patients were alive at the end of the study. Poor prognostic factors associated with decreased overall survival were WHO PS 2-4, grade 2-4 anemia, high-risk prognostic score, and resistance to chemotherapy, all of which indicate delayed management. Conclusion:Despite their chemosensitivity, GTT may have a poor prognosis if their diagnosis is late and their management is not adapted.
Introduction: In the field of imaging, ultrasound plays an essential role in the diagnosis and management of hepatobiliary diseases. The aim of our work was to study the ultrasound aspects of hepatobiliary pathologies in the radiology and medical imaging department of the Point G University Hospital. Methodology: This was a descriptive retrospective study from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2023 in the radiology and medical imaging department of Point G. It concerned all patients with one or more hepatobiliary pathologies seen on ultrasound regardless of age and gender. The parameters studied were sociodemographic data and the ultrasound aspects of hepatobiliary pathologies. Informed consent was obtained from all our patients. Results: During the study period, the total number of patients who underwent liver and gallbladder ultrasound was 14,292 patients, of whom 380 met our inclusion criteria, or 2.6% of cases. The mean age of the patients was 34.71 ± 25.27 years with extremes of 15 and 97 years. There was a female predominance (51.8% of cases) with a sex ratio of 0.92. The nephrology department was the main department requesting the ultrasound examination with 27.9% of cases. Pain in the right hypochondrium was the main reason for requesting the examination with 22.7% of cases. The location of the lesions was hepatic with 81.5% of cases. Segment VI was the most affected with 13.7% of cases. Some segments had multiple lesions, however all hepatic segments were affected. Hepatic steatosis was the most represented pathology with 88 patients or 21.2% of cases. Conclusion: Ultrasound is the first-line examination in the diagnosis of hepatobiliary pathologies. It has made it possible to diagnose many hepatobiliary pathologies.
The aim of this study was to report a case of multi-visceral sarcoidosis at the Mother-Child Hospital Center (CHME) "Le Luxembourg" in Bamako, Mali. Observation: This is a patient aged 62 at the time of consultation, a housewife, residing in the Banconi district, who was referred to us for thoracic-abdominopelvic imaging for chronic liver disease. After several diagnostic errors, the thoracic-abdominopelvic CT scan and liver MRI performed in our center showed, at the thoracoabdominal level, bilateral diffuse pulmonary micronodules and bilateral mediastinal-hilar lymphadenopathy; on the abdominal level, a dysmorphic liver with plaques of steatosis and a granular appearance of the liver parenchyma without periportal fibrosis. These imaging data combined with those from the liver nodule biopsy and biology confirmed the diagnosis of sarcoidosis type II. Treatment with corticosteroids gave satisfactory results and the patient recovered after 18 months. Clinical and CT monitoring 2 years from the start of the disease and 2 months from the end of treatment showed complete resolution of the lesions. Conclusion: The multi-visceral location of sarcoidosis is an entity whose diagnosis remains difficult; diagnostic and interventional imaging has an important place in its management.

Objective: Our study aimed to study the value of CT angiography in the diagnosis of subrenal abdominal aortic aneurysm at the Mother-Child University Hospital Center Le Luxembourg Methodology : This was a retrospective, descriptive and analytical study carried out over a period of three years (from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021) in the radiology departments of CHME Mère et Enfant Le Luxembourg. It concerned all patients who had an angio-CT scan in the radiology department of the CHU-ME Le Luxembourg in whom a subrenal abdominal aortic aneurysm was diagnosed. Excluded from our study were aneurysms of the thoracic aorta and vessels of the neck as well as the limbs. Results : We retained 22 cases of AAA meeting our inclusion criteria. The male gender was the majority (66.7%) with a sex ratio (M/F) of 1.5. The most represented age group was those over 50 with 66.7%. Hypertension was the most represented risk factor with a rate of 33.3%. Abdominal pain was the most frequent functional sign with 77.77%. More than 66.7% of our patients had an abdominal mass. The majority of our patients had a saccular type of aneurysm (67%). The average anteroposterior diameter of the AAA was 56 mm. The average transverse diameter was 63 mm. The average length of the aneurysm was 77 mm. All our patients had heterogeneous aneurysm contents with mural thrombus. The edge of the aneurysm was irregular with loss of parallelism in all our patients. More than half (55.6%) of our patients had aortic calcifications. Only one of our patients presented with fissure syndrome. 33.3% of our patients had the sign of extension to the renal arteries. The majority of our patients had visceral branch patency with a rate of 88.9%. The biological assessment was dominated by anemia with a rate of 44.4%. The echocardium was pathological in 11.1%. Conclusion: Abdominal aortic aneurysms are becoming more and more common. More than 90% of abdominal aortic aneurysms develop at the expense of the infrarenal aorta. The most common vascular risk factors are hypertension and smoking. Aneurysms are generally asymptomatic, making their clinical diagnosis difficult. CT angiography remains the complementary examination of choice in the diagnosis of thoraco-abdominal arterial lesions.
Lymphoma is a malignant proliferation of lymphoid tissue cells. We report a case of multi-focal lymphoma of lymph node, pharyngeal, cardiac and splenic sites. This was a 19-year-old patient received in February 2023, at the radiology and medical imaging department of the Mother and Child University Hospital Center ''Luxembourg'' as part of the CT exploration of a lateral mass. -left cervical. On admission, the clinical examination found a patient with an altered general condition, moderately colored conjunctiva, normal blood pressure and temperature. Examination of the lymph node areas revealed a left latero-cervical swelling, and fixed bilateral axillary swellings, of firm consistency and irregular contours. Palpation revealed hepatosplenomegaly. Cardiopulmonary auscultation was normal. A cervico-thoraco-abdominal CT scan revealed irregular thickening of the left lateral wall of the oropharynx, a hypodense tissue mass in the right cardiac chambers, heterogeneous splenomegaly, cervical, mediastinal, axillary and abdominal ADP. The histological examination carried out after lymph node biopsy revealed a histological appearance of small cell lymphoma. Conclusion: Lymphoma is a very common malignant tumor that can occur at any age. This tumor can affect all organs, however its cardiac location is rare. The positive diagnosis remains histological. Imaging plays an important role in the initial assessment, extension and surveillance.
Objective: Our study aimed to study the contribution of CT scanning in the assessment of the spread of bladder cancers at the Medical Imaging Department of the Mother-Child University Hospital Center Luxembourg. Methodology: Descriptive cross-sectional study carried out at the Mother-Child University Hospital Center Luxembourg, in the Medical Imaging department in collaboration with the Medical Oncology department. It included 91 cases of bladder tumors over a 38-month period from January 1, 2020 to February 28, 2023. Results : We collected 91 cases of bladder tumors, the average age of occurrence was 55.86 years, with extremes of 21 and 80 years. The male gender was predominant with a sex ratio of 1.46. The Bambara ethnic group was the most represented with 41.8%. The dominant profession was that of housewives with a rate of 36.3%. A history of urinary bilharzia was found in 30.8% of our patients. On CT, the masses had a hypodense appearance in 81.3% and 5.5% were calcified the contours were irregular in 57.1% of cases and budding in 41.8% of cases. The masses presented heterogeneous enhancement in 59.3% of cases after PDC injection and the long axis measurement varied from 11 to 116 mm with an average of 37.35 mm. Squamous cell carcinoma was the most common histological type with 60.4%, followed by urothelial carcinoma (35.2%). Locoregional invasion was mainly perivesical fat in 24.2% of cases, the prostate in 16.5% of cases and the cervix in 13.2% of cases. Distant metastases were present in 45.1% of patients with a pulmonary predominance, i.e. 22% of cases. Stages T4 and T3 were the most represented with 42.9% and 35.2% of cases respectively. Stage N2 represented 31.9% of cases and stage N1 represented 16.5% of cases. Conclusion : Bladder cancers are more common in men than in women. Urinary schistosomiasis is the predominant risk factor in endemic countries. Locoregional invasion is more frequent and predominates at the perivesical fat level. Pulmonary metastases are more common.
Objectives :Evaluate the technique of performingangio-scanning at CHME Luxembourg. Methodology: This is a 2-month prospective and descriptive studyfrom April 1 to May 31, 2021. Any patient presenting an examination bulletin sent to the imagingdepartment for angio-CT and havingagreed to participate in ourstudy. Results:Duringourstudyperiod, 1025 CT scans wereperformed, amongwhichwefound 78 angio-CT scans, representing a frequency of 7.60%. Among the 78 cases of CT angioperformed, weidentified 61 angio-thoracic (78.20%), 7 lowerlimbangio (7.90%), 5 thoraco-abdominopelvicangio-CT (6.40%). , 3 cerebral CT angio-CT (3.80%) 1 CT angiogram of the upperlimbs and the aortawith a frequency of 1.30% each. The averageage of our patients was 57 yearswithextremes of 1 month (born) and 82 years. The femalegenderwas the mostrepresentedwith 53%. Dyspnea and chest pain were the mostcommonclinicalfindings. Meglumineioxitalamate (Télébrix*) was the mostusediodinatedcontrastproductwith 65.4%. The average flow rate was 3.92 ml/s in ourstudy. The average value of Dose-Length-Product (DLP) per acquisition was 353.79 mGy.cm withextreme values ​​of 91 to 775mGy.cm. Hot flashes were the mostfrequentlyencounteredsideeffect in our patients with a frequency of 26.9%. Among the angio-TTDM performed, 80.8% of ourexaminationscorresponded to the successcriteria Conclusion: The CT angiography technique remains the gold technique for the exploration of veins and arteries. In the majority of cases it leads to a satisfactorydiagnosis.
