Multistage word formation is a methodology that goes beyond the analysis of a binary relationship between a motivating and motivated word. Instead, it captures broader sets of words comprising all direct and indirect derivatives formed from the same non-derived word-formation base. This approach is particularly well established for Slavic languages, which are characterized by multistage derivation—for example, in Slovenian: gledati ‘to watch’ → pregledati ‘to examine’ → pregledovati ‘to examine (imperfective)’ → pregledovalec ‘examiner’ → pregledovalčev ‘examiner’s’). Such treatment of the lexicon allows more comprehensive insight into a language’s word-formation—and, in parallel, meaning-formation—mechanisms. This is the most extensive multilingual volume on multistage word formation, presenting thirty-six studies across fourteen languages. It provides a highly important stimulus for multistage analyses in Slavic linguistics, particularly through strengthening indispensable language-technology segments of research. A special value of the volume lies in its multilingual and interdisciplinary scope and in the inclusion of Slovenian Sign Language, which extends reflection on “formation” beyond spoken languages.
Dictionaries are generally consulted to ascertain the meaning of a word. However, the meaning is inseparable from its grammatical features, which often determine it. Therefore, this article examines the type, scope, and method of presenting grammatical data in a comprehensive general dictionary. The aim is to analyze and ascertain the morphological and syntactic characteristics of all types of words recorded in what is currently the only such dictionary of the newly standardized Montenegrin language. Attention is also given to the applied metalanguage, representing a combination of transparent abbreviations and natural language. The initial hypothesis about the heavy reliance on the inherited Serbo-Croatian lexicographic practice is confirmed, but certain deviations from this tradition are also noted, which aligns with the dictionary's goal of presenting grammatical data more accessibly and comprehensively to its target users. Keywords: grammatical data, grammatical marker, general descriptive dictionary, Dictionary of Montenegrin National and Literary Language, Serbo-Croatian language dictionaries
This paper aims to research the ways of structuring the general dictionaries of Montenegrin dialects, starting from the selection of materials, i. e. determinants, to giving examples at the end of each dictionary article, as well as to, indirectly, examine the degree to which about thirty analyzed dictionaries can define the development of Montenegrin dialect lexicography. The author has identified diversity not only in the application of the lexicographic procedure but also in the organization of the macro and micro structure of the dictionary, which is, mainly, the result of unequal expertise and training of the authors themselves, who are more often amateurs than linguists. It has been concluded that individual dictionaries, in terms of quantity and type of data, exceed the limits of a general type dictionary, that most of them meet the requirements of lexicographic work to an unequal extent, while there are also rare ones that barely meet the dictionary minimum and represent mere collections of words.
The paper deals with a syntactic-semantic analysis of numerous and various examples of k+dative case constructions identified in the letters by Petar II Petrovic Njegos. As, in comparison to the situation nowadays, the research of the corpus showed that there is a wider range of functions and meanings of the aforementioned construction, the author paid a significant attention to the competitively disposable language forms that have been put out of use in time. It is concluded that the k+dative case costructions in the language of Njegos' letters were found more often in the field of abstract rather than concrete directives, and even, when it comes to spatial relations, they have the meaning of adlativity, rather expressing the goal than the direction. On the one hand, this is conditioned by the historical development of the meanings and functions of this construction, and on the other, it is deeply related to the nature of the epistolary discourse the author has analyzed for the purpose of the article

The paper deals with grammatical, morphological and syntactical status of the verb form represented in the examples such as: Živjeli! Grom te ubio! Radio ne radio, nećeš uspjeti! Insight into Serbo-Croatian/ Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian and Montenegrin grammar as well as scientific morphosyntactic literature resulted in identification and analysis of several different definitions of the mentioned form. The author concludes that it would be most appropriate to identify it as radni glagolski pridjev that functions as optative as a form of verbal mode. Keywords: radni glagolski pridjev, krnji perfekat, optativ, morphology, syntax.
In this paper, we first briefly discuss the various types of abbreviations, their structure and form. Then, in the body of the text we analyse the language of Montenegrin online media and its derivational potential. We single out the most frequent models characterised by suffixes -ov -ovski, -ovac, as well as some less productive models characterised by suffixes -ovka, -ovcieki and -izacija where abbreviations appear as motivators of second-degree derivatives. We dedicate a particular attention to the meanings of the newly created units which belong to the class of nouns and adjectives, respectively. At the same time, we try to establish which journalistic genres they are typical of.
The paper deals with the verbs whose semantic content condition the formation of supplementary adverbial units. They can be placed in four major semantic categories: the verbs with spatial, temporal, qualificative and quantificative semantics. Particular emphasis is paid to their other possible semantic types, which exact supplements of simultaneously lexical and grammatical nature. The syntaxic-semantic analysis of corpora in our language showed that each semantic type of verbs uses a particular type of adverbial supplement.
Based on voluminous and heterogeneous linguistic material, this paper analyzes the combinations of the preposition do (to) with prepositional constructions: it is most frequent with prepositional genitive and prepositional accusative, and quite rare with the locative. The mentioned prepositional cases combined with the preposition do (to) have spatial, temporal or potentially quantifying meaning. The very preposition do (to) joins its adlative meaning with these cases.
