The diurnal behavioral rhythm and time budgets of dwarf blue sheep were studied by method of scan sampling. The behaviors recorded were classified into five groups: feeding, moving, standing, bedding, and other activities. During summer, there are three feeding peaks in diurnal time (6:00 − 9:00, 10:00 − 11:00 and 16:00 − 20:00), and one bedding peak (11:00 − 15:00). The dwarf blue sheep was found to use 30.14% (±3.32) of their time feeding, followed by bedding (26.44%±3.59), standing (24.90%±4.27), moving (15.73%±1.26), and others (2.82%±1.00). We also found that adult males spend more time on feeding and standing than other individuals, juveniles spend more time moving and other activities, while females spend more time on bedding.
The ethogram of dwarf blue sheep (Pseudois schaeferi) had been researched in Zhubalong Nature Reserve of Sichuan Province during March to December, 2007. At the same time we established the PAE (Posture, Act and Environment) coding system which correlated to the ethogram. In this study, we recorded and distinguished 11 kinds of posturesinverted commas 83 acts and 118 behaviors. We also gave out the relative frequency of each behavior in relation to sex and age, and the season in which the behavior is likely to be occurred.
From March to June, 2006, the habitat and nest- site selection of the Common Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) were investiga ted by direct observation and sampling in the field, at the Taihe Nature Reserve in Nanchong, Sichuan Province. Based on principal component analysis and contra stive analysis, the following was discovered: Common Pheasants' nests were locat ed in areas with a low canopy coverage, near to water, higher herbage with great er coverage, and rich in white cogongrass (Imperata cylindrica) hay. The mai n factors which affected the nest selection of Common Pheasants are: Gradient>Ov erall vegetation coverage>Average diameter of trunk>Canopy coverage>Degree of da rkness>Distance to water>Distance to road>Average height of shrub>Proportion of hay around nest>Proportion of naked ground>Thickness of vegetation over the nest >Shrub coverage>Width of tussock that the nest is located in. The results indica ted as follows: Common Pheasants are more likely to choose habitats with the following conditions: higher shrub coverage, proper gradient and arbor canop y, higher herbage with greater coverage, lower shrub coverage, bigger shrub heig ht, smaller degree of concealment, greater distance to road and greater de gree of darkness than the contrastive samples.
The nest-site of black-crowned night heron(Nycticorax nycticorax)had been researched from March to June 2006 at the Taihe Nature Reserve in Nanchong,Sichuan Province.There were total 47 nests of black-crowned night heron and 26 contrast samples were researched.The main factors which affected the selection of nest of black-crowned night heron with the principal component analysis and contrastive analysis are: height of nesting tree>average height of vegetation>height of nest>diameter of bamboo>degree of concealment>canopy cover above the nest>distance to Xihe River>distance to nest of little egret>canopy cover of vegetation>canopy cover below nest.
