Dr. Hou has extensive experience on the integrated design and microstructure control of advanced aluminium alloys (i.e., sheets, plates, profiles) for industrial applications such as automotive, aircraft, high-speed trains, with cooperative investigations with CHINALCO, Katgerman Aluminium Technology and other OEMs for lightweight component manufacture. His researches focus on phase/nano-precipitate manipulation, microstructure and failure/fracture analysis during deformation/processing (i.e., cryo-/asymmetrical-rolling, forging, (cryo-)forming) and heat treatments. His research interests also include TEM microanalysis, thermodynamic calculation and in-situ deformation/microstructure characterization for mechanistic understanding of fundamental issues for metallic materials, and the liquid micro-fluid metals deposition (spray forming or powder atomization)/printing for advanced metallic alloys (i.e., Al-matrix composites, tool/mold steels). Recently, his research focus on the design and integrated processing of advanced 7000 series aluminium alloys for automotive/aerospace structure components with high strength, good corrosion resistance and/or high formability. Also, as a technical expert, He provides technical advice and guidance to some Al companies and OEMs.
