Bio
Bartholomew is a research fellow with a growing expertise in immunology of parasitic diseases. He has a keen interest in host-parasite interactions and host immunity to parasitic infections. Currently, his research focuses on host innate and immune factors that modulate the pathogenesis of placental malaria. The goal of his studies is to identify the contribution of the innate immune responses to pregnancy malaria by determining dynamic changes of macrophages at the maternal-fetal interface. Previously, Bartholomew led a laboratory research group conducting immunological studies on schistosomiasis in western Kenya. He uses a range of molecular cell biology, transcriptomic, genomic and immunological approaches to understand the host-parasite interactions. In addition, Bartholomew has passion for mentoring and training of undergraduate and graduate students in biomedical sciences for the advancement of humanity.
