Our group studies molecular nanomagnets and other paramagnetic systems by means of a wide variety of spectroscopic and magnetometric techniques. We also synthesize our own molecules and carry out our own ab initio calculations. About two decades ago, we started investigating single-molecule magnets and their building blocks. Here we focussed on the detailed investigation of the magnetic anisotropy, which is the key parameter engendering magnetic bistability, rendering these molecules potentially useful for ultrahigh-density magnetic data storage media. Somewhat later we expanded into the area of molecular qubits, seeking to establish these systems as viable alternatives to current qubit implementations. In recent years, we have to progress into the direction of molecular quantum spintronics, marrying the (organic) spintronics and molecular magnetism fields.
