个人简介
Throughout my career, my research interests have revolved around the study of the mechanics of the lower extremity. In order to do this, I have used human locomotion as a model. Specifically, I am interested in mechanisms for both overuse and traumatic injuries to the lower extremity. One particular focus of my research has been the investigation of the coupling of the lower extremity segments. Initially I used the timing of the maximum excursions of the segment and joint angles as a measure of coupling. However, in conjunction with Dr. Richard Van Emmerik, I began to use a dynamical systems approach to investigate the coupling behavior in the lower extremity.
A second area of interest involves the foot/ground collision during locomotion. This study began by trying to determine if runners optimize on this impact by trying to alter their kinematics to attenuate the impact force. This led to an analysis of shock transmission through the body with each footfall.
