个人简介
João Miguel Pereira. Concluded his PhD in Structural Engineering in 2014 and his Civil Engineering degree in 2008, both at University of Minho. Currently is a researcher at the Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering. During his PhD studies and after its conclusion in 2014, he had the opportunity to work in different topics related to masonry structures and interact with different departments and laboratories. He worked with blast experimenting using real explosions, impact experimenting (having developed the full testing apparatus) and fire experimental research. He has vast experience with numerical modelling of masonry structures under various loading conditions (seismic, fire, impact, blast) using several advanced FEM software such as DIANA, Abaqus and Ansys/LS-DYNA. During his time as researcher, he also performed consultancy work for the Department, involving mainly structural assessment, numerical modelling and strengthening proposals for clients (both private and public companies) such as the Getty Institute or DRCN (Northern Regional Directorate of Culture). He also took teaching responsibilities in the Department; having taught Structural Mechanics and Technologies in Construction, besides teaching short courses and specialized graduate courses. Besides the teaching experience he also supervised and guided the work of several MSc students and PhD students. His other competences include: a) Experimental testing of impact loading with high strain rates, including drop weight towers. Electronics knowledge for acquisition sensors and acquisition systems, including filtering, signal analysis and LabView programming; b) Experimental testing of blast loading on structures, including real explosion testing at LEDap (Laboratory of Energetics and Detonics, Portugal), pressure sensors, high speed laser displacement equipment, FastCam video equipment, video tracking software, signal analysis and test setups design; c) Advanced knowledge on structural modelling techniques for seismic, blast, impact and thermal loading using non-linear implicit and explicit dynamic analysis software DIANA, Ansys/LS-Dyna and ABAQUS; d) Experience in assembling and preparing proposals for competitive funding (approved): i) research project CH-SECURE, funded by FCT (160k €); ii) research project G-BLAST, funded by QREN (480k €); iii) research project ATHOR, funded by the European Commission (3700k €); iv) research project SAFEWAY, funded by the European commission (4500k €); v) research project LightSlab, funded by ANI (560k €); vi) research project PUMA, funded by FCT (240k €); vii) research project SUBLime, funded by the European Commission (3700k €). Within his CV the most frequent terms used to contextualize his scientific production are: masonry; refractories; fire; blast; impact; risk assessment; cultural heritage structures; structural safety assessment; composites; sandwich panels; genetic algorithms; optimization.
