Areas of expertise include the evaluation of laser therapy, clinical oncology, the molecular pathogenesis of benign and malign skin tumours, fluorescence diagnostics and photodynamic therapy. In laser therapy, particularly the investigations into tattoo dyes and their chemical decomposition by laser impulses have received international recognition. This research has also resulted in a close cooperation with the American Food and Drug Administration.
Basic research is conducted by the team working on the antimicrobial effects of photodynamic therapy. Investigations into the molecular pathogenesis of FGFR3 mutations of epidermal nevi and seborrhoic keratoses have also received international acclaim.
