Research summary
My research is centered in three main areas:
- Design and evaluation of innovative water & wastewater/sanitation treatment technologies
- Adaption of sanitation/wastewater infrastructure to climate change
- Development of tools for sanitation systems risk assessment and decision making on wastewater/sanitation technology use/application
Research focus:
- Pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) in drinking water and wastewater
- Metaldehyde in drinking water
- Microplastics in drinking water and wastewater
- Acid mine drainage remediation
- Ecological processes such as slow sand filtration, biosand filtration, ecological filtration, constructed wetlands, vertical hydroponics
- Photocatalysis and photolysis
- Adsorbents such as biochar, granular activated carbon, zeolites
- Small scale microbial fuel cells for wastewater remediation
- Container-based sanitation
- Decentralized technologies and developing countries
- Water reuse technologies and strategies
