After graduating in Physics with honors at the University of Seville (US) in 2010, I started my scientific career in 2011 at the National Accelerator Center (CNA, US) for my Master’s thesis. In 2013, I was awarded a four-year postgraduate grant to pursue a Ph.D. and joined the Ion Beam Analysis and Modification of Materials Research Unit of the CNA. My main line of research at CNA was focused on the development of fast ion loss detectors (FILD) based on scintillator materials used in nuclear fusion devices in close collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP, Germany). In the course of my Ph.D., I applied various analytical methods for the characterization of different scintillator materials using energetic ion beam analysis (IBA) techniques. There, I took part in the commissioning the first ionoluminescence beam line at the CNA. My scientific interest was also focused on the development of radiation detectors using the ion beam induced-current technique. This led to a groundbreaking technique in Spain based on the characterization of radiation detectors using a nuclear microprobe. During this period, I accumulated over six months of international experience cooperating at the IPP in the EUROfusion MST1 experimental campaigns. The main result of my Ph.D. was to develop an innovative instrumental function to extend the scope of applicability of FILD to estimate the fast ions losses for the first time in the IPP. These results provided a fundamental experimental benchmark for the validation of the main transport codes of fast ions. In September 2017, I started a 15-months postdoctoral research at the same institution (CNA) to further explore in detail the capabilities of using MeV energy ions and the IBIC technique. I was appointed responsible person for supporting and helping to establish a laboratory for the development of scintillator powder coatings, which is currently under operation at CNA. In addition, I have written a book for National Geographic titled: La fusion nuclear. Replicando la energia de las estrellas. In July 2019, I was offered a postdoctoral position at the Laboratory for ion beam interactions of the Ruđer Bošković Institute (RBI, Zagreb, Croatia), where I worked as a postdoctoral researcher on the characterization of radiation detectors using IBIC until July 2022. In RBI, I leaded the characterization of the polarization phenomena in diamond detectors, which has resulted in several publications and contributions. I was involved in multiple international projects in RBI like the RADIATE project, exploring the capabilities of single ion detection systems and a new HR-X-ray spectrometer. In September 2022, I started a 39-months postdoctoral research at the CNA thanks to obtaining of a FIUS contract (from Sep 2022-Dec 2022) and a PTA grant (from Jan 2023) to continue my research line in the characterization of semiconductors detectors, the installation of a new time of flight system for ions at the ion beam u-probe and the commissioning of a new HR-PIXE spectrometer at CNA. Up to January 2023, I have published 42 peer-review papers, with 4 first authorships in major international journals, which have been cited 445 times with an impact factor h index of 13 according to the Web of Science (WoS). I have participated in international conferences with more than 10 contributions as first author and more tan 40 contributions as co author. Regarding my teaching experience, from 2013 to 2017, I assumed the role of a teaching assistant in diverse laboratory courses such as "Quantum Physics" and "Experimental Nuclear Techniques". As a postgraduate student or post-doc fellow at the CNA, and later at RBI, as part of my daily work, I contributed to the assistance of the students during their projects, Diploma, or Master theses work. At RBI, I was officially co-supervisor of 3 works (2 students projects and 1 Master Thesis).
