He was the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Lightwave Technology from 2013 to 2018, was a Program Chair of the 2009 European Conference on Optical Communications and Program/General Chair of the 2015/2017 Optical Fiber Communication Conference. He is a Bell Labs Fellow, a fellow of the OSA, and an Elected Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering. He has received multiple awards for his work, including the 2018 John Tyndall Award.
