Pietro Ruggieri was born in Taranto Italy in 1958. He graduated in Medicine at University of Bologna in 1982, completed his residency and was certified Board of Orthopedics in 1996 at University of Bologna, Istituto Rizzoli 1987 and obtained his PhD in Oncology at University of Bologna in 1989. He became Researcher at University of Bologna, Rizzoli Institute in the Department of Orthopedics and in 2005 Professor of Orthopedics. He was a pupil of Prof. Mario Campanacci since 1982 to 1999, and then worked with Mario Mercuri until 2011. During his education, he was a fellow at University of Florida, Gainesville under the direction of Dr. Enneking and Dr. Springfield in 1987 and was a fellow of Dr. Frank Sim at Mayo clinic in 1991. He is the author of more than 800 Scientific Papers or National or International Journals, over 390 of these on PubMed, with a citation H-Index of 51 and i10 Index of 181. He has been a speaker and moderator in more than 700 international congresses. He is a member of several Orthopedic and Oncology societies: Past President and Secretary General of ISOLS; Board Member of EMSOS; Chair of Tumors Committee and member of the Fellowship Committee of SICOT; Scientific Advisor for the EFORT Science Committee. Since October 2016, member of the MSTS Membership Committee. Since January 2017, member of the SIOT Ethics Committee. Since May 2018, Vice President of EMSOS, member of EFORT Board and Co-Chair of EFORT Ethics Committee. Since October 2018, member of MSTS Research Committee. Vice-Chair of 2019 MSTS Specialty Day Committee. In 2019, President of SIOT Annual Meeting. Since April 2019, member of EFORT Endorsed Research Projects Committee. He has been awarded from EMSOS, EFORT and N.C.I. Moreover, he was Erwin Morscher Honorary Lecturer at EFORT, in London 2014. From May 2011 to November 2012, he was Director of the Department of Orthopedic Oncology at Rizzoli. From November 2012 to October 2015, he was Head of Prosthetic reconstructive surgery in Musculoskeletal Oncology, University of Bologna - Istituto Rizzoli. Since October 2015, Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics and Orthopedic Oncology at the University of Padova. Since October 2016, Director of Residency Program - Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University of Padova. Since January 2017, Director of the Scientific Center for Research of Musculoskeletal Tumors "Mario Mercuri" at the Department of Orthopedics and Orthopedic Oncology of University of Padova. His main fields of research are musculoskeletal oncology, reconstructive surgery and prostheses in musculoskeletal oncology.
