Cyclophilin A, an immunophilin, was recently identified by us for the first time using proteomic technologies as a secretory protein from human monocytes under hyperglycaemic conditions . This isomerase has been observed to be elevated in the plasma of patients with type 2 diabetes and coronary artery disease compared to normal healthy individuals. We are studying the mechanism of high glucose induced secretion of cyclophilin A from monocytes in vitro and in vivo.
