Iván Rivilla de la Cruz (Puertollano, 1980) obtained the PhD in Chemical Sciences from the UCLM (2008) under the direction of Prof. A. Antiñolo and Dr Rafael Fernández-Galán. The project of his doctoral thesis consisted in the design and synthesis of new ansa-metallocene catalysts with group IV metals and their use in the polymerization of α-olefins. During this period, he trained in the use of ATM techniques inert and in process of polymerization and copolymerization, collaborating with groups of the Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid and the Higher Technical Institute of Lisbon. After obtaining the degree of doctor, he made a postdoctoral period of 3 years at the University of Huelva, under the supervision of Prof. Pedro J. Pérez, and Dra. M. del Mar Díaz Requejo, where he worked in the field of metal catalysis of group XI. From 2012, up to now, he is developing his research work as a doctor, at the University of the Basque Country under the direction of Prof. Fernando P. Cossío, where he has directed two master students, obtaining the highest qualification in both cases. He is currently also the tutor and co-director of the doctoral thesis of Mikel Odriozola Gimeno. The scientific relevance of his work is reflected in the publication of scientific articles and attendance at national and international conferences in which he has contributed both with oral presentations and with communications in poster format. In addition, he has participated in more than 20 research projects. He is the author and/or co-author of 24 scientific articles. Currently, his research focuses on obtaining bioactive molecules through the use of 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions, through organocatalysis and transition metal catalysis, as well as in the use of DNA as a catalyst. Currently, it has also focused on photocatalyzed reactions, as well as on the synthesis of molecules of a purely organic and organometallic nature, with potential application as inhibitors of different enzymatic activities directly related to tumoral processes and other diseases. He also focused his research on the synthesis of organocatalysts for use in ROP, using light as a source of renewable energy. He collaborates with Dr A. Lopez-Kortajarena, in the development of metalloproteins able to catalyze dipolar reactions, and with professors A. Echavarren (ICIQ) and P. J. Pérez (UHU) in the use of complexes of Au(I) as catalysts of different cycloaddition reactions. Recently the researcher Iván Rivilla has been initiated in the study of the mechanism of reactions through the use of computational methodologies DFT. He maintains a strong collaboration with Prof. J. Bañales of the Biodonostia Inst., where together with Prof. Fernando P. Cossío, are developing a new family of molecules with activity in the fight against different polycystic diseases. Moreover, he belongs to the ORFEO-CINQA network. Currently, he participates as a researcher in the @NEXT project led by Prof. Juan José Gómez-Cadenas. Also Member of ENS-CCA and COST H2020 EURO-CHOLANGIO-NET. Manager and chemical advisor in Ma+D Engineering of Waste Valorization of Agroforestry Origin (Spin-off). This initiative has already received several awards such as the Manuel Laborde 2013 for the best innovative idea of the Gipuzkoa campus and arrived third in the prestigious Toribio-Echeverría award for the best technology-based company 2013. Currently, Ma+D is part of European project H2020 for the exchange of research personnel.
