个人简介
Oscar Ramos holds a B.Sc. degree in Microbiology (4-year program), between 2001 and 2005 by the Biotechnology School of the Portuguese Catholic University and a Ph.D. degree in Technological and Engineering Sciences – with specialization in Biochemical Engineering, between 2007 and 2011 by the Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology of the University of Lisbon. Between 2012 and 2018, he was Post-doc researcher at Centre of Biological Engineering of University of Minho (UM) and invited Assistant Professor (2015-2018) in Food Science and Technology and Nutrition PhD program in UM. Since 2018, he is Senior Researcher UCP at Alchemy Project, involved in the valorisation of cellulose-based products (e.g. delivery systems) and responsible for Microbiology and Structural platforms.
During his academic path, he received several distinctions, including: a Ph.D. grant in 2006 (reference nº: SFRH/BD/30827/2006) and a postdoctoral grant in 2011 (reference nº: SFRH/BPD/80766/2011) both by the Portuguese governmental scientific funding agency (FCT), and a merit award in 2007 by the Portuguese-American Foudation for Development. Additionally, he received a honorable project selection for COHiTEC program, supported and ministered by COTEC Portugal (Association for Business Innovation) in collaboration with the Hitec Centre, University of North Carolina, Porto Business School (EGP) and New University of Lisbon. He was also a co-founder of Blendera® food solutions company.
He authored or co-authored more than 40 scientific papers published or submitted in peer reviewed journals in the Food Science and Technology field and 13 chapters in edited books, and is also an editor of 2 book; he participated in more than 30 international conferences and workshops worldwide, and did more than 50 oral and poster presentations; he had co-supervised 1 PD project, 2 PhD, 5 MSc students, and 14 undergraduate students at CEB-UM and ESB-UCP. Currently, he is supervising 3 PhD students at CEB-UM and CBQF. He co-authored 2 patents: a National Invention (Patent Nº 105852 – 2013) developed during the PhD program, untitled “Revestimento comestível para alimentos” and a European Patent Nº 20201000060199 – Dynamic Gastric Digestion Model and Computer Program.
He was an Expert Evaluator of COST actions (OC-2016-1 and OC-2017-1), collaborated in 8 R&D of independent projects and was a Team Member of a national project (DINOSSAUR, PTDC/BBB-EBB/1374/2014).
Research interests include Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Nanotechnology ‐ carry out research in a range of key technologies for the production, characterization and preservation of industrially/traditionally processed products. The research can be summarized into: (i) development and validation of bioactivity and safety of functional ingredients (antimicrobials, antioxidants, probiotics, prebiotics and functional peptides and polysaccharides) and study applications on the development of novel functional foods (ii) by‐product upgrading through fermentation, extraction and purification processes aiming to obtain high‐added value products (iii) development of bioactive and smart packaging (i.e. coatings and films) from food grade biopolymers and (iv) design and characterization of food grade materials-based micro- and nanosystems with bioactive and smart properties and finally (v) application of the above research developments together with novel food processing technologies (i.e. pulsed electric fields and high pressure processing) to improve food safety and quality, as well as to other Biotechnological fields.
