Shawn Keshmiri (Member, IEEE) received the B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Shiraz University, in 1993, the M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Los Angeles, in 2004, and the Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Kansas, in 2007.
He is Charles E. and Mary J. Spahr, Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, University of Kansas, U.S.A. Before his tenure as a faculty member at the University of Kansas, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Remote Sensing of Icesheets. His specialization covers the domains of Guidance, Navigation, and Control, coupled with Flight Test Engineering. A significant portion of his scholarly endeavors is directed toward studying multi-agent swarms of uncrewed aerial systems (U.A.S.s), developing flight controllers leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and designing adaptive controllers. His dedication to educational excellence led to his appointment as the John E. and Winifred Sharp Teaching Professor in 2017. Since 2010, Dr. Keshmiri has held a leadership role in directing research projects at the KU Flight Research Lab. Under his guidance, the lab has undertaken ambitious projects, including several FAA, DOD, and five pivotal Polar missions to Antarctica and Greenland. He was honored with the University of Kansas H.O.P.E. (Honor for the Outstanding Progressive Educator) award in 2018.
