Mr. Emsbo-Mattingly possesses more than 30 years of applied chemistry experience. He specializes in the source identification of chlorinated organics, solvents, surfactants, petrochemicals, dielectric fluids, Askarels, coke, coal, radiological materials, hydraulic oils, lubricants, asphalts, pesticides, petrochemicals, carbonization byproducts, paper mill wastes, petroleum, fuels, tar, combustion byproducts, soot, ash, slag, dusts, emissions, heavy metals, and other industrial products in various environmental media. He has conducted environmental chemistry and forensic investigations at landfills, chemical plants, recycling facilities, electric utilities, power plants, electrical substations, paper mills, smelters, dry cleaners, chlorinated solvent manufacturers, service stations, petroleum storage facilities, petroleum refineries, metal refineries, rail facilities, marine terminals, wood treating facilities, coke plants, former manufactured gas plants (MGPs), smelters, tar refineries, transformer recycling operations, paper mills, mining operations, railroads, power plants, and metallurgical operations. He directs and manages forensic chemistry projects throughout the United States involving the identification of fugitive products containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), dust, radioisotopes, chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs), organochlorine and organophosphorus pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/PCDFs), petroleum hydrocarbons, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), geochemical biomarkers, synthetic polymers, resins, organometallic compounds, radioisotopes, stack emissions, heavy metals and other anthropogenic materials.
